That doesn't really add anything. Dabo coached and won 1 more game than Bowden that year with the same roster.
Dabo was a gamble that paid off big. Theres no way to paint a different picture.

Devil is in the details. Bowden coached the first 6 games, and only won those against, the Citadel, NC State, and South Carolina State. Dabo took that same team after firing Spence and beat Boston College, Duke, VIrginia, and Spurrier-coached South Carolina.

Clemson got a trial run with Dabo as interim HC, who had no HC experience, but had been on staff for 5 years prior to being named HC.

He was much less of a risk than Pruitt, who had zero HC experience, and hadn't spent more than 2 years at any of his previous stops as a coordinator.

Spurriers team was coming off a 50 point loss to UF and finished 7-6, Duke won 4 games that year and Virgina won 5.

The details are painting the same picture. Dabo was a gamble that paid off big. The drastic difference between the hires is just not there.

Swinney should have been gone in 2010, after a 6-7 season that ended with a loss to South Florida in a no-name bowl game. Former Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips, who hired Swinney in 2008, said he almost was.

"I was lucky to have a great president [Jim Barker]," Phillips said. "He was under pressure—from the trustees all the way up—to fire Dabo in 2010. There would have been a lot of presidents to acquiesce to public sentiment."

I wonder how many Clemson fans, if they are being honest, are looking back and trying to forget what they felt about Swinney at the time.

The truth is, he was a bad hire in the first place. Sure, it doesn't look that way now, but in 2008? He had never been a head coach. He had never been a coordinator. He was Tommy Bowden's guy, and Bowden had been fired midseason. To give Swinney that big-time job after just a few games as an interim coach was absurd.


"Obviously, people felt like it was the wrong decision to hire him," Phillips said. "Before I hired him, I'd talked with several head coaches and coordinators who all were, on paper, much stronger than Dabo. I believed it was worth the risk. But it was a hire where, if it didn't work out, we both would have been out the door at the same time.

In 2015 he took the next step and proved he could put a great season together and since then has proven he has built and sustained an elite program by win 2 NCs. And he's in position for a 3rd.

Haven't made in claims to the contrary on Pruitt. But post that again if makes you feel better I suppose.

No, he didn't. He lost 3 lopsided games in 2011,and one more to the eventual national champion in 2013. The other 7 losses in that 4 year stretch were close, including the overtime loss to a #1 ranked team. He also had multiple victories over national championship coaches in that few years.

Dabo was fast track to elite and looked the part as early as 2012.

That lopsided game you mention was a 51-14 loss to FSU. That happened in 2013 his 5th season.

After 2012 (since you specifically mentioned it) he lost 5 games by an average of 20.6 points a game.

In 2014, 2 of his 3 losses were by 22 and 24 points.
Ironically his worse loss that season came to UGA by 24 points, they lost the east that year to UF by 18 points.

2015 was the year all that stopped. From then til now he has been elite.

If any fans have a right to be miserable it's us. In my spare time yesterday, I looked at how many men's championship teams each Sec team has had since 1995. I included what I consider the major men's sports; Football, Basketball and Baseball.

LSU had a total of 7 ( 3 FB and 4 Baseball), Florida had 6 (3 FB, 2 Basketball and 1 Baseball). Bama 5 (all football), Kentucky 3 (all Basketball). Hell even Vandy had 2, and SC had 2(All baseball). How many did UT have? ONE (Football):confused:.

With the money that UT puts into these sports, I would expect a better return. Yes, we have a right to complain. If a CEO at a major corporation had this kind of performance, he would be gone. Is it the upper management in our athletic department? Something is wrong. :mad: Flame away!!!!!
