If I was a UF fan, I would want CM retained too. Funny right?

i am just addressing reality. they are not firing martin

as for how it effects florida.....

florida's best football and basketball achievements have come during periods of time where tennessee had it's best football coach (in 50 years) and basketball coach (maybe ever).

Why? Before this season 'Zo has had success against Florida.

I realize that but feel that Billy is going to get the better of CM the majority of the time moving forward. We need to bring in better players soon to compete at a high level and I don't see that happening right now.

Florida wasn't that good in football or basketball when Dickey and Mears were our coaches.

True but I would rather have Bruce leading the way against the gators compared to CM. Don't get me wrong, I like CM but just don't know what the ceiling is for him. Will find out soon. Think about it, Bruce won 3 out of 4 against the UF squad that had repeat titles while UT had inferior talent ( putting it nicely btw ).

I would rather have Bruce too.

I am not talking about hopes or wishes. I am talking about what is.

Martin will be tennessee's coach next year, regardless of how I or anyone else feels about it

A man can dream. I am not saying you are wrong but if we get bounced by Iowa badly in the first game, he is not exactly "safe."

Dare to dream, but he's safe.

I can almost guarantee you that it would be tough as hell to get fans to come out to support CCM and co. next year if we get bounced by Iowa. That may not be fair but it is what it is and Hart has to take that into consideration.

Cute.

Did mears even win an NCAA tournament game?
No he didn't, but he went to the NCAA 3 times. In 1967 there were only 23 teams in the field. Tennessee lost to Dayton by 1 point. They would have been in the Final 8 with a win. Dayton went all the way to the finals , and lost to John Wooden's UCLA team. I remember that game because Dayton had a left hander by the name of Don May who was a tremendous player.

In 1976 and 77, Mears took U.T. back when there were 32 teams in the field. In 76, we lost to VMI, who made it to the Elite 8. In 77 we lost to Syracuse.

The problem back in those days was that if you didn't win your regular season conference championship, you generally stayed home. The SEC got one representative, which was Kentucky most of the time. Mears managed to win the championship 3 times, and he went to the NCAA 3 times. There was no SEC Tournament then.

Mears averaged 18.5 wins and 7.5 losses over 15 years. His record was 278-112. He never lost more than 9 games in a year except his first year when he lost 11.

Mears won 71.3% of his games at U.T. Pearl won 70%. Several of Pearl's teams would not have made the NCAA field back when Mears was coaching.

Can we just enjoy the tourney? I mean we have a whole offseason to talk about this stuff. Just sit back and relax you might see an impressive run.

This!

Seriously. If we suck as bad as many say, the season will be over in ~60 hours ish. Plenty of time to complain after that, just enjoy seeing Tennessee in the tourney for the first time in 3 years.
