By best, I mean that ones that send the most money to those that are supposed to be helping.

We do a monthly donation to St. Jude.

Was also interested in doing something with disabled veterans and animal rescue.

Don't want to donate to a bunch of scam artists.

St. Jude every month. Our local animal shelter a time or two each year and World Central Kitchen.

Salvation Army. Check with a local Rotary Club or other civic club. They tend to be pretty good at distributing or directing money to good local charity efforts. A lot will have a local 501(c3) Foundation for tax deductible donations.

I would not donate to any charitable group that does not have 501c3. Possibly fraudulent.

I worded that poorly. All the civic clubs I know are organized as 501c3, but some have sister Foundations setup that make their charitable donations easier to manage. I belong to a Rotary Club with such a structure.

Blm. No issues with taking money from minorities so the head lady can own several mansions on the dime of folks that prolly don't have it.

Besides the church we attend, we donate to Country Road Animal Shelter in Waynesboro, TN where we rescued a dog as the pandemic started. Also Nashville Rescue Mission, our local YMCA, a local disaster relief fund, a local food bank and St Jude. All are 501c3 and highly rated.

If I give to anything that claims to be a mission-oriented charity, I want to know how much they spend on administration and fundraising. I don't care about some third-party scoring system because that's going to skewed by the biases of the third party. St. Jude is decent with 82 cents of each dollar reportedly going to research and patient care. The Red Cross claims to spend 90 cents of every dollar on mission-related purposes. I quit giving to MDA several years ago (other than maybe dropping a few bucks in the boot when the firefighters hit the intersections) after Iearning that approximately 1/3 of what they raise goes to administration and fundraising. You can find charities that spend virtually every cent they raise on mission purposes but they tend to be small and locally-oriented.

hey Yankee....was it you who did the 5K or something similar to fund raise for St. Jude?
was wondering if you still did that
I did, yes. It was the actual St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis. I haven’t ran much after I broke my ankle. It’s healed fine, I’m just lazy 😂

We donate to Knox Area Rescue Ministries, St Jude Children’s, Eagle Boy’s Ranch and a small ministry, Harvest Prison Ministries, my wife’s uncle started from the ground up. We’ve pretty much capped it at these since they rarely send us a mailing and we know the most of the money goes to the operation of helping others. Donated to some others for a while, but we seem to get unlimited mailings constantly even though we were already donating on a regular basis. I know they have to have a marketing budget, but I feel like if we have donated consistently, maybe only send us something once or twice a year to say “hey, thanks. Hope you will continue to support us.” At this point we know where to find you. Otherwise, it concerns me how much of the donations are going for mailings/marketing instead of directly to help the people it’s intended for.
