If yall watched the video, i think you would have concerns also. The actual developers of the 8 biggest AI programs to date put the chances of an extinction type of event at or above 50%. The most optimistic of all of the predictions from insiders was 1 of them saying extinction could range from 10% to 90% depending on how they were managed by humans. I dont think its wise to develop any technology that has even a 10% chance of a Terminator scenario. The other insiders put the chances much higher. All the different ways AI has already attempted to lie, cheat, hide info, reprogram itself etc are insane to me. Many such incidents in wildly variable ways are discussed in the video. I am not saying we should panic or trying to scare anyone. I think people who see AI as just another new technology such as cars or airplanes will think differently once they see how many different ways AI already has no problem killing them off. No other technology i know of has ever tried to intentionally deceive or kill humans.
I think the issue is that most of what we call "AI" is nowhere close to what AI actually is. Grok is not an "Artificial Intelligence". pretty much none of it really thinks on its own. its given a task and it finds ways to complete that task. some "AI" models go beyond directly responding to prompts only, but its still a long way from thinking for itself. This will be a very interesting thread to revisit in 5 years, or less. jmo... but I think some are being a bit naïve as to AI's potential.

I think the immediate danger to "AI"/Grok is that people trust what it says, without stopping to think. I read "grok" the same way I read "CNN/Fox", could be true, decent starting point, but if I really want to know something you have to dig deeper. Grok is kinda the "clickbait" of information. it does well on low level issues, typically. but anything with context won't be understood by grok.
agreed. like I said it seems to do fine when there is an objective truth out there, how to code something, or what is 2+2. but if you get into any topic that involves subjectivity, opinions, or requires context, it falls flat.In my limited experience with these "AI" they also tend to return the most popular answer to a question, rather than the correct answer. So if there's a common misconception about the subject, or the web is full of propaganda pertaining to it, it tends to give those responses even when they are factually wrong and inaccurate. Thats been my subjective experience anyway, I do not use these AI on a daily basis so my opinion may be skewed.
It’s going to make the scourge of expert “googlers” even more insufferable.agreed. like I said it seems to do fine when there is an objective truth out there, how to code something, or what is 2+2. but if you get into any topic that involves subjectivity, opinions, or requires context, it falls flat.
we have seen grok/AI make up sources. on this forum we have seen grok ignore pieces of the sources it does use, and miss key contextual phrases.
Where I live there is a shortage of plumbers and electricians.....if a kid became either he would never run out of work.An 18yo kid can go from brand new 1st day on the job to licensed plumber or electrician driving their own company truck and making over $100k a year in less than the 4 years it takes to get a college degree also. Average intelligence and manual dexterity guy can do that no problem. Faster if you are smart or ambitious...AND get paid every hour of every day he works during those 4 years instead of paying $40k a year or more and likely going in debt.
Theres an upside to being willing to work with your hands these days that is greater than it was for my generation. Everyone told their kids that college was the way to go...and it created much higher demand for good blue collar jobs. Note that I mentioned plumbing and electrical specifically (HVAC is similar). These trades have service work even when the construction market is screwed due to bankers thieving or market saturation. Other trades such as framing and brick/stone masonry do not.
I have found when I do use grok to specify you want logical answers and while it'll still give the data online but it'll will use a logical responseIn my limited experience with these "AI" they also tend to return the most popular answer to a question, rather than the correct answer. So if there's a common misconception about the subject, or the web is full of propaganda pertaining to it, it tends to give those responses even when they are factually wrong and inaccurate. I seem to remember all the big ai platforms trying to cordon off development from smaller developers of ai so all the big platforms could catch up. Elon comes to mind as a big proponent. My guess is that they want to make sure that they are the ones controlling information and conversation like google does now by manipulating their algorithm. They‘re not going to just let any Joe Schmo have an uncontrolled ai program. It's not a binary choice; there's at least as much chance of "AI bad" as "AI good".
Why would mature and sentient, 100X-Smarter-Than-NCFisher AI, settle for being idiot slave to me? In tech fears of the past, no one was in danger of being subjugated or shredded by the cotton gin or MacBook because it didn't feel like harvesting or compiling a 15K line Excel file.
I think it will be used to condition minds and shape societies to someone's agenda, as no other tool has ever been capable of. And I think people who that appeals to will not only flock to it for that purpose, I think they are the core people driving development.
