What are our insiders hearing?

drink the kool-aid another year because butch ain't goin nowhere...who is going to fire him? now AD or chance in yet and it will be too late for 2017 when they get there. No one is going to come in and fire him on the spot and take the buyout $ hit to boot. They didn't create the situation and will take a year to even consider it.....in the meantime, maybe the Kool-aid will be better next year.

Have a spot of hemlock, sport!

Maybe debord will step down to a snaller role instead of retiring? Like just the offensive line coach. Or take a job in the football athletics deoartment wmto where hes still involved with the football program in some way

CBJ has already said he isn't firing DeBord. So if CBJ brings in a top OC to act as co-OC, UT will be paying three coordinator salaries, which would be around $3M or more. Even if DeBord assumes Mahoney's role, we'll need to bankroll a hefty salary for a respected S&C coach and a few more staff upgrades. We're going to have one of the highest paid coaching staffs in the country.
And we definitely should be getting a lot more than we have on our investment.

So we just need to hire and fire 3-4 more coaches and we'll be there? :)

The most interesting thing about your post is its support of how difficult it is to hire a "championship" coach. I don't believe CBJ is likely to elevate the program to a championship level, but I also know that firing him COULD make things worse.

A lot of people want to think that all you have to do is throw more money out there and the savior will come. If that were true, Bama wouldn't have had a 25-year gap between Bear and Saban. Texas wouldn't be where they are now either.

I'm perfectly fine with canning Butch, but I also know that we may just end up with another version of Butch.
If Butch is maxed out at 8-9 wins then I'm willing to tolerate a couple of 5 or 6 win seasons under the next guy in hopes that he will have a higher ceiling. I think Butch is maxed out here unless he replaces 2/3 of his staff (not going to happen) and starts recruiting at a Bama level (probably not going to happen). We're wasting time.

With the way Butch has recruited there is no reason to think a new HC would take a step that far back. The timing is off to replace Butch whether he can get it done or not. It's not a waste of time to show good faith in a head coach, at the very least it sends a message to future coaches, you will get a fair shot to succeed. The negative talk on a message board will never end, but getting that 5th year is big deal after a leveling off year, if we take another step back then all bets are off when it comes to Butch staying.

Take their soul Vols!

Would Nebraska beat out South Carolina and Vandy? That's the real question. I think they are all around the same team.

While we're being all thorough, would they beat out Virginia Tech and Florida?

LSU just forked out 2 mil to KEEP their DC...and they haven't hired their OC yet. We got a ways to catch up.

Yep. LSU has had the highest paid assistant coaching staff for five years in a row. They saved millions keeping Orgeron, so they're flush.

UT traditionally has been frugal, but we're jumping up the salary rankings. LSU, Bama, aTm and Georgia are all top 5. We're going to have to pay more to attract top talent-- and we're going to have to give decent bumps to several assistants we want to keep.

Post interview comment by TKjr about how the Florida players reacted to our comeback, not sure if this is the exact quote or not but here goes, "it was like we took their soul". Of all the comments, that the one that stood out to me.

Don't just beat Nebraska.

Oh okay.

Helfrich to the Hill!!! (Hopefully)

I expect a promotion from within or someone with out the wow factor being brought aboard. I will be surprised if a well known name out there takes the job with the thought that CBJ is on thin ice and possibly forced out if the season results are .500 or less.

This notion that he is on thin ice is silly. He is not. Mark Richt hired Jeremy Pruitt and Schottenheimer even though he was definitely on the hot seat.
