What are our insiders hearing?

LWS what a horrible weekend for Vol fans. I am even more concerned that admin will screw up the AD hire sending us into further abyss. Is it true that no one wants Blackburn? He looked like the obvious choice not that long ago and now we need steady Tennessee leadership more than ever.

Talk to the guy over the holidays. I figured he would be in Butch;s corner. He ls for Michigan so definite neutral take and he is a native of Michigan. He said Butch won with Central players recruited by another coach as well as Cincinnati. So he won with another coaches players. I am concerned next year may be a 5 win season again. If you are okay with that well that's your prerogative.

His 3rd year at CMU he was 11-1. That was with a lot of his players. 3rd year at Cincy he was 9-3...also with a lot of his own players.

If Shoop needs his folks to be successful - then let him go and hire them.

My point is, I bet Shoop would rather have guys he trusts on the defensive side of the ball developing and coaching these players rather than ones he inherited. I'm sure he's not too thrilled he has a guy like Willie Martinez coaching the DBs that get embarrassed every week - if he could go back he'd probably try to hire a couple of guys he trusts to coaching certain positions.

This is fun, but in reality we're all just shouting at the dog here. Unless he quits, Lyle is back next year. No doubt he'll throw some of the coaches under the bus, so we'll get a(nother) new staff next season. Same old, same old. Lipstick on the pig.

Best bet, and best hope, is Blackburn. If he gets the AD job, the clock is ticking on the Lyle Jones Experiment. If Jones holds true to form, 2017 will be his undoing. And if Blackburn holds true to form, UT is back in Atlanta by 2020.

Go Vols.

That's all well and good and I agree totally, but how many years are we going to keep saying that to ourselves?

I have no idea. I'm not an insider, or a booster, or a major donor. I'm just a lifelong Vol fan. I've been wrong more than I've been right. But over the years, my professional trade has taught me to sit back and watch what's going on...follow the facts...evaluate things with a neutral eye...and then draw my conclusions based on that.

For the record, I was wrong about Kiffin. And Dooley. And now, Jones. Not to mention the fact that I pissed away the VolNation Season Pick Contest with a scalding 4-6 finish.

If you're looking for a prognosticator, you could do a lot better than me.

So, Shoop? My guess is "no". Whether it be because of Butch, or Shoop, I think the complete collapse of this defense over the last 3 weeks is too much for one of them, or both. Butch knows his job depends on the 2017 season. Shoop figures Jones is gone based on what he has seen from the inside. If Shoop stays, it's with his pick of assistants. I doubt if Jones agrees to that, and even if he does, I doubt if Shoop can get who he wants. Bad news travels fast.

You didn't ask, but since we're there, I think DeBord stays. He's in Butch's pocket, and there isn't an FBS team out there that would hire DeBord.

As late as roughly 9 pm Saturday night, I thought Butch might be able to salvage the 2016 season, the 2017 recruiting class, and the future of UT football. I went to bed in the 3rd quarter. I saw, clearly, what was happening. I woke up Sunday morning to the realization that the UT football program was pretty much in the same place it had been 8 years ago when all of this crap started. That was a very depressing thing to face.

I am of the opinion that Butch is likely gone after the 2017 season, if not at some point during the season.

And if you're going to start over, then you start from scratch. With that in mind, Shoop is gone. For him, sooner is actually better than later.

Go Vols.

I sense that there was significant discord in this program during the entire season. Not just with some of the players, but among the coaches too. I think the locker room is in such a mess that it is beyond Butch to repair it. In fact, he might very well be the main culprit in creating the discontent.

Anyone think if Chad Morris goes to Baylor that Butch might take the SMU job, a good rebuild there would possibly get him harder looks from the NFL.

This entire thread is non-sense and wishful thinking, nothing more. UT will not make a move until a new AD is hired and if history tells us anything then a new AD will not be hired for several months. They are not going to fire a coach in May. If CBJ were to win 8-9 games again next year, then he isn't going to be fired in 2017 either.

Might depend on how he loses the other 3 or 4 next year.

I doubt very seriously UT makes a move to fire him either - but they should. I still believe his thin skin will shoot him on out the door anyway. His people were speaking with freaking NC State before they decided to retain their coach over the weekend. He's on the first train out of here if he has someone that will give him a ride.

I hope the administration is out in front of this, but for some reason, I have my doubts. Incompetence at its finest.

Butch-
Want to valued by the fan base?....win!!!!
Want to improve your resume and expnad your prospects?...win!!!
Want to be more respected by the media?...give direct answer to a direct question and oh also....win!!!
If you want to be quirky and aloof then first you have to....win!!!!

Are you starting to see the pattern here?

I think Butch is gone after 2017 and it's just in time for Chip Kelly to bring his circus offense to Knoxville. I think the Niners will fire him and he realizes he can do well back in college....

Put JG in Kelly's offense and they put up 50 a game

If anything has become abundantly clear it is that we have no true insiders that know Jack **** about any of the true happening inside the AD...

I think we keep Butch and he does enough next year with lower expectations to earn a 6th year
