I have no idea. I'm not an insider, or a booster, or a major donor. I'm just a lifelong Vol fan. I've been wrong more than I've been right. But over the years, my professional trade has taught me to sit back and watch what's going on...follow the facts...evaluate things with a neutral eye...and then draw my conclusions based on that.
For the record, I was wrong about Kiffin. And Dooley. And now, Jones. Not to mention the fact that I pissed away the VolNation Season Pick Contest with a scalding 4-6 finish.
If you're looking for a prognosticator, you could do a lot better than me.
So, Shoop? My guess is "no". Whether it be because of Butch, or Shoop, I think the complete collapse of this defense over the last 3 weeks is too much for one of them, or both. Butch knows his job depends on the 2017 season. Shoop figures Jones is gone based on what he has seen from the inside. If Shoop stays, it's with his pick of assistants. I doubt if Jones agrees to that, and even if he does, I doubt if Shoop can get who he wants. Bad news travels fast.
You didn't ask, but since we're there, I think DeBord stays. He's in Butch's pocket, and there isn't an FBS team out there that would hire DeBord.
As late as roughly 9 pm Saturday night, I thought Butch might be able to salvage the 2016 season, the 2017 recruiting class, and the future of UT football. I went to bed in the 3rd quarter. I saw, clearly, what was happening. I woke up Sunday morning to the realization that the UT football program was pretty much in the same place it had been 8 years ago when all of this crap started. That was a very depressing thing to face.
I am of the opinion that Butch is likely gone after the 2017 season, if not at some point during the season.
And if you're going to start over, then you start from scratch. With that in mind, Shoop is gone. For him, sooner is actually better than later.
Go Vols.
