What All Our Opponents Want Us To Do

A lot of you are equating not wanting Freeze to wanting to keep Pruitt. That's not the case. Freeze would just be more mediocrity. I guarantee you none of the elite staffs in the conference are scared of Tennessee hiring Freeze, because they know that sanctions will follow. There's not even the guarantee that he'd be better than 3rd in the East. And Tennessee would pay 5-6 million a year.

Pruitt needs to go but Tennessee needs to be smarter about who it hires. Freeze should be 6th or 7th on the list at best. Regardless it's not getting done this year, and if it is it will be disastrous because they aren't prepared.

Anyone posting on here that he's not the answer, in my opinion, is most likely someone on Pruitt's staff. Any sane, logical person with a normal IQ can see that Freeze is one of the best coaches in college football. How many other coaches that have fielded a team in D-I in the last twenty years could put Liberty into the top 25 in their second year in the FBS?

2018 Liberty recruiting class: Three 3-stars, seven 2-stars, twelve no-stars. Total class ranking: 137.

2019 Liberty recruiting class: Ten 3-stars, two 2-stars, six no-stars. Total class ranking: 135.

2020 Liberty recruiting class: Sixteen 3-stars, twelve 2-stars. Total class ranking: 89.
He's a good evaluator of talent, but the recruiting services don't bother rating kids that aren't getting P5 offers, so that is very misleading. Hell, they don't even do a good job of evaluating P5 kids.

I’d prefer we stay away from Bama coordinators. It’s easy to look good when your roster is better than 95% of other teams and your backups are better than starters on the other teams

I’m not a big fan of Booger-eatin Sark but he’s really not “bama born & bred” like Pruitt. Sark is a west coast guy who happens to be Bama OC. Like Kiffin.

And was 3-2 vs Vanderbilt, 1-1 vs Memphis, lost three in row to Arkansas. He was awesome, and that was with a cheating top class. And don’t forget the constant blowouts every year
I was responding to post of how we haven’t beaten Saban in forever.

But since you bring it up, we will continue to slide further into irrelevance if we don’t bring in a better coach. Freeze reminds me of both Bruce Pearl (good) and Butch (bad). But he’s been a winner everywhere he’s been, which we need. Let’s say he’s overrated, and only gets us to 7 or 8 wins every year (maybe occasionally winning 9). We haven’t had 4 straight winning seasons since 2001-04. Let that be the new floor and upgrade later. But we continue to make high risk/low reward hires.

AL, GA, UF, etc. would love nothing more than have TN keep Pruitt another year. They know it's an automatic W. What they don't want? To see us hire Freeze. Their reaction- 'Oh S***.... TN is no longer a pushover.'
(I'm afraid our brilliant decision makers could never recognize this.)
Saban struggled with Freeze. Mullen did not. Neither did LSU, UGA, Auburn, etc.

Who’s on your list that Freeze isn’t part of? I suspect it would contain either 1) names like Meyer that won’t even return the phone call, 2) more group of 5 coaches like Dooley or Jones, 3) more career assistants like Pruitt, or 4) Guys like Kiffin with off the field baggage. All risky in some way.

My only requirement for the new coach is someone capable of winning as an underdog, both on the field and in recruiting. We need a rebuilder, which we haven’t brought in since Majors.

Matt Campbell, Luke Fickell, Jamey Chadwell, Billy Napier, hell, even Bill Clark, who fits the rebuilder model to a tee. And that's after you make Meyer, Stoops, Petersen, Whittingham file a restraining order. Freeze is lazy, and the fact this fan base is frothing at the mouth over him once again proves that most of our fans don't pay attention to what goes on outside Tennessee football. Hell Malzhan has a better resume in every way and Auburn would beg us to take him off their hands, and he would love to get out of the west and recruit to somewhere other than a cow field.

And what would TN’s record be against the Liberty schedule this season? And if you believe the same or better with certainty, you haven’t been watching and disqualify yourself from this discussion ……………

Matt Campbell has said if he left Iowa st it would be for Notre Dame, Ohio St.
Luke Fickell - Ohio St bound first chance he got.
Napier- 3 years HC experience in sunbelt -don’t need another experiment!
Clark - solid but not an exciting hire
Chadwell- only option that I would be excited about and then only if I thought UT was a dream type job for him.
The others I highly doubt any of the others have any interest

He got them to two major bowls, playing against a harder division. How many have we gone to in the past 15 years?
And lost one 42-3.

Tennessee would be 10-1 or 11-0 against liberty’s schedule. And Liberty would be 1-9 against UT’s

Napier has won every year, his record in the sunbelt is better than Freeze's, and he was a much more esteemed assistant than Freeze was when Freeze got to Ark St. And about Fickell and Campbell, tOSU isn't opening up anytime soon, and both of them know that. Go offer them 5-6 million a year and give them everything they need.

EDIT: I know the reason why everyone is so dead set on Freeze and it's because the rumor is that he wants to be here. Of course he wants to be here, we're the only program in the SEC dumb enough to hire him and pay way over market rate to do so. You guys still haven't gotten over Kiffin.
