What all is "finding their identity" about?

Lately on the football field our identity has been fold like a cheap tent, When the other team puts us in a diverse situation. Like when we have to match what they just did.

I read all the time about the "team hasn't found their identity " . What all do you guys think that involves? Is the answer simple or complex in your view? I'll hang up now.

In some cases, if a talent laden team is vastly underperforming and not meeting expectations then people say the team just hasn’t been able to find their identity...

In my opinion, Rick Barnes coached teams can’t really say that since his teams have found ways to underperform expectations on the court for decades. I lived in Austin during the Rick Barnes era. Underperforming expectations is the Rick Barnes way.

it has to do with identifying what the team is good at and what they can lean on to get the win...a particular challenge, considering how many good players just transferred.

I prefer the term vision quest.

The UT football program has been on a 16 year vision quest to find their identity, identify playmakers and leaders, foster a culture of winning, and create an environment of excellence in which the student athlete can explore their limits while nurturing upward growth trajectories in a positive and meaningful manner as they excel both on and off the field while presenting a positive face for the program. All this takes place in an accepting and inclusive manner.

Every team/business has a thing that they’re known for. That’s their identity.

Finding what they're good at and exploiting their opponents by exercising it.

I am sure there are many facets to this concept. But one that is rarely spoken of, and is of key import, is to find a way for players to extricate their craniums from the depths of their rectums. Every team is going to have a few, it is inescapable. But I have come to believe that in most games, the team that wins is the one with the fewest heads up their asses. It's a theory at least.

Cranio-rectum insertion disease (CRID) is highly contagious and requires constant care to keep recovering patients from relapsing.

Shower discipline, bricks, and time spent under the bus were not effective treatments. Here's hoping Heupel has a more consistent and longer lasting treatment.

like Going to basic training. You get there met by your drill instructor screaming at you. Then you are trained in every aspect to make you part of a unit that gives you pride, character, love for country. A lean mean fighting machine. lol. It was made to give you confidence, and bravery. I loved it and most come out with a sense of responsibility. don't look for me to ever disrespect our flag

Chemistry. I played a lot of sports, including basketball, growing up. Chemistry is everything. You have to know what your guys are good at and what you are good at and when and when not. For example, I might have played on a team where I had a bunch of little guys who were scrappy, shot well, defended well, but only one might be tall enough and good enough around the rim to hit him moving or maybe even posting up. Another team may have a tall clumsy guy who can’t shoot but can rebound well and knows how to pass. Thing is, this is one team. They didn’t play the preseason leagues all the other teams played and they only practiced on each other. Or maybe Barnes has been so focused on his goal with these Freshman he has left Fulky out to dry. I have seen coaches say, go over there and play lol. Not, hey take center and this is what we expect of you on whichever side of the ball... they just assume people know what they are doing... it’s baffling... so players just wing it and almost don’t even know what is going on or what team they are playing for hahahaha

2 different sports covered in 1 thread. That's efficient. It's also kinda sad that the thread topic applies to both sports.

Before that can happen Fulkerson needs to be benched. This team is going no where with him in the line up.

Let me help you guys with this "identity" thing. THIS is the identity difference:

Notice any patterns here?

It’s really simple. A team determines and accepts who gives them the best chance to win. The acceptance part is usually where teams struggle. If not properly managed, players’ egos can lead to team strife because some players can’t accept they are not the go-to guy. In our case recently, Pruitt could not accept that JG was simply not the guy. So it’s really a two-way street, both the coaches and players have to be objective about a player’s skill set.

It involves figuring out their correct pronoun, which bathroom to use and which type of panties they prefer...... and their dress size

Excellent point. If you as a coach have your head up your own ass? The players will follow your example.

So let's all pray Coach Heupel stands up straight in his thinking.

They need to find something they're good at. We haven't done that in awhile. Given recent hires I'd focus on offense. Get it rolling, be dangerous and come away with the fact you can consistently score on anyone, particularly GA, FL and AL. Take the rest as it comes for now.
