Does a team have to be better physically than the other or just outsmart them to win?

And how did a first year coach (CLK) give Bama all they could handle? Not something Saban was looking for.

Mindset has a real effect. Remember Appy St came to Neyland and they knew they could win. They were outclassed, but played harder, smarter, and were better coached on both sides. If players of a lesser team know the playbook and each other best and execute their gameplan perfectly, the lesser team has a shot. The winner just has to be better for 60 minutes of game time. Sometimes, the winner is the better team for only a few minutes of the game.

How did the same coach give Bama all they can handle and then follow that up by losing to Arkansas by almost 2 TDs? Idk.

I'd say Kiffin was accustomed to whipping Saban's defenses in practice having equal type players.
So, with lesser players, he was able to outscheme Saban, but couldn't pull it out. Jimmy's and Joes won the day for Saban.

I watched Ole Miss & I think Bamas D is loaded with great but young players that look over to the sidelines to get formations every down. Trouble was Kiffin had Ole Miss going in hyper speed and the Bama D was flatfooted a lot of time or out of position.
Don't feel Chaney would ever go that route. The only QB I think we have that could possibly play that style is BM and he's hamstrung in multiplicity.

Desire, discipline, execution and a winning gameplan gives you a chance. The margins get a lot smaller when the talent disparity is great. I think we have good enough players to compete with Bama, but we have to have all the other things, too.

Bama was looking ahead to GA. Also, one of the Bama LBs said Ole Miss had their defensive signals.

Didn't CBJ do this as well? Played Bama tough one year and took the late lead by Jalen Hurd. Lost to Arkansas by two TD's after having an early lead. Same year blew the lead to Oklahoma and Florida.

That momentum didn't last more than another year.
