What about Big John?

I think Chavis should be retained as DC, he has never really had a bad defense. I like some things about his style, I like the fact that he brings pressure and blitz' a lot. I don't want a DC that is afraid to blitz. If we do let him go a lot of teams would be happy to have him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him offered a HC job at a smaller school like UW.

I like John too. It's hard to argue against him with the ranking of his defenses nationally. However, there have been times where his schemes have been completely frustrating, such as any point where we have a 1 TD lead and the other team has the ball with 2 minutes to go. I think he'll find work no problem if he wants it, but it is probably best to let him pursue other ventures at this point.

I don't think it's totally impossible that he might stay on at UT next year, depending on the HC that is hired. A few of the assistants might be able to stick for continuity in recruiting, if for no other reason. Not to mention, it's not like it's really the defense's fault we're in this situation.

Most every team has a three down lineman, two LB, six DB package.....so what if UT calls it "mustang?''

And how can anyone complain about the Vols secondary after what it has done this year?

Slade is one of three finalists for DB coach of the year.

I suppose people choose to believe what they want, in spite of evidence

Like this Mike Leach stuff....you don't think Florida would light up Texas Tech like this, too?

Gimme a break. Big 12 is over-rated, and Chavis has long been underrated because he doesn't kiss butt in the media.

The term "Mustang" has to be without a doubt the most maligned and misunderstood term in the Tennessee playbook.

The defense has been solid enough this year just as it was in 2005. He has been the most consistent coach other than Daniel Brooks (possibly).

I think the third downs surrendered and the prevent packages have worn thin on the psyche of most fans nevertheless.

If Johnny Majors says he's saved Fulmers butt it is enough for me.

Now....what about all the rumors of his internal jealousy of other staff members.

Yea people have been knocking us down the last several years trying to hire him...WRONG

Actually, they did for quite a while earlier in the decade, and he told them he had no intention of leaving TN. I think NC State was interested as HC a while back, as well as a couple of other schools.

I mean, he didn't win the national Asst Coach of the year in 2006 for no reason.
