What’s your proof

At the moment, CJP’s buyout would be $21M. Although still short of Malzahn, we still haven’t figured in assistant buyouts. How much more are boosters willing to commit to a ship that’s constantly sailing aimlessly except to dry dock for repairs every 4 or 5 years?
What? How do you get 21 mil for Pruitt's buyout. It is around 13 or 14 mil.

Dude, John Majors had already won a NC at Pitt. Apples and Oranges. Try again.
I was having a similar conversation with my dad this morning. That's the difference. Majors had a national championship under his belt. And I don't think anyone questioned his loyalty and commitment to the program.

Cool, but I don’t see a Chuck Webb, Carl Pickens, Alvin Harper, Anthony Morgan, Dale Carter, Chuck Smith, Chris Mims, Jeremy Lincoln, Antone Davis, Charles McRae, or even Andy Kelly on this team.
Oh, there’s a lot of talent on this team. The young guns are dudes.

Ok, show me the figures. Gus's buyout is 21.5 million. Start there and show how UT's buyout of JP would be more expensive. I'll hang up and listen.
We start off 40 mil in the red add another 20 mil to fire and hire that’s a 60 deficit.

I think the university has fully planned on keeping Pruitt and probably will. However, the anger in the fan base seems to picking up steam with other schools proving the lame excuse that Tennessee is using, of Covid, as bull**** by firing their inept coaches. Coaches who have done a far superior job to ours. The university now has to decide where it’s going to lose money, either through buyouts or apathetic fans. There is no proof to either school of thought, only speculation.
I think you nailed it Orange P!!

People wanted to fire CJM then too. They were wrong and I think the average fan was much more football literate than today.
Don't even compare CJM to JP. That is a non-starter and a very bad comparison since JP hasn't done squat as a HC. He maybe a fine guy but his leadership ability is severely lacking and that one quality he lacks, has impaired his ability to be a successful HC IMHO.

CPF is not going to fire CJP. CPF has a lot of support from people who have a lot of money. The football people are in control again and those out there hoping for the circus of coaching search are going to be really disapointed. This is not Hamilton, Hart, or Currie anymore.
what makes you think any of the last three you listed would do any better...

There are rumblings of a possible coaching at the end of the season and it’s growing louder. Let’s reverse the usual line of thinking, what’s your proof there will be NO change in the head coach at the end of the season. Some on here are positive we stay the course. Where’s the proof?

Phil Fulmer is still the AD. That’s all the proof you need.

Fulmer is loyal WAY past a fault.... He brought Pruitt in. Fulmer also thinks he was unjustly fired after two losing seasons in 4 and lots of program discipline problems.

Then... money. Someone has to pay out his contract.

I'm on record. They should be "shopping" now. If they can get the right guy then make a switch. One of the reasons the Vols can't turn the corner is that they've made a habit of firing coaches and then looking for a replacement. Eventually UT has settled or panicked or both. The next HC shouldn't be an afterthought or the surprising consequence of firing your current coach... but it seems to be that way at UT. Your replacement has to be ready to go WHEN you fire a HC.

From what I seen of the previous coaching search it was decided before they fired Lyle that it was gonna be Mullen and if/ when that fell through they had already picked Schiano as the B option. Remember our AD going to the Bahamas cause he already had his guys and even when Mullen was announced for UF there was no activity just an attempt to sneak in a hire on a Sunday afternoon.
