What’s up with CRB and Kessling?

Can someone link the conversation in question? That would be great! I hate Kesling. I called into the vol kick off show years ago when butch was the coach and I criticized him for being too conservative. It was awesome. Kesling eventually interrupted me and cut me off saying…ya ya, we get it. They went on to downplay the mentality of butch and staff which in my opinion directly led to his downfall here.

From listening to the post game show, it appears CRB has really gotten under Kessling’s skin. Has something happened in the past between them? It was really awkward sounding.
Well 20 posts later and the consensus appears to be either they’re good friends and it’s only good natured joking or CRB hates Kessling and loves to poke fun at him. Thanks for clearing this up Volnation!

Professionally, he is a terrible broadcaster. He apparently was in the right place at the right time, which would be the only way he could have acquired a job this prestigious with his skill set. I had a couple of experiences at a few events where he self-righteously ripped a few people for disagreeing with what he thought should be going on. It felt very much like a child getting scolded by a parent. Otherwise, listening to him, for me, was like a fingers on a chalk board.

I think Barnes is a great guy, but he's also a no nonsense kind of guy. I didn't hear last night's exchange. I have heard Barnes answer his smart aleck questions with smart aleck answers. Barnes kinda takes subtle jabs, or kind of pokes fun at him and Bert. Sometimes Barnes answers their questions with a question of his own. I think it's all in good fun, but it sometimes comes across as snarky and jackass like. I, for one, think its funny. Because, I know Bob HAS to get under Barnes' skin. Heck, he gets under ours'. I also know that off air Bob is not the nicest guy in the room. Especially with how he treats his "underlings"......

Wow. Kesling has Underlings? They must not be much.....

Familiarity Breeds Contempt. Kesling is Entrenched. Love it when he retires.

Folks would still be listening if we had someone that could keep up with the game. If Ward was alive and came back 98 percent would turn down the TV volume. Mike Keith might be ready for the change. That was supposed to be the man in waiting to begin with. GBO!!!!
Josh Ward might be the one. Neo baby.

Have you listened to the clowns from South Carolina? Bob is mediocre, but there's much worse.
That's what people fail to understand. I've listened to a lot of broadcasters mainly across the NBA, and Bob is far better than a lot of them. He's certainly not my favorite broadcaster, but I enjoy the basketball broadcast. Football with Pat is not good though.

I must be an outlier as I really like Pat’s analysis

Over the last few coaches shows Barnes has been giving Kesling a lot of crap about wearing a toupee. It's funny but you can tell it annoys Bob.

Let it bother him. To Hell with him if he can't take a joke. Listening to Bob is annoying. If Barnes is making him unhappy? That just makes me admire Barnes more. I've been waiting too long for this boring boob to retire. Hopefully, Santa has a new voice on the sleigh for us. Bout time if so.

I had an encounter with Bob years ago after a game at the entrance of the locker room, there were so many people there as he was trying to walk through. I was trying to be nice and ask people to move so that he could enter as I knew was on a time schedule to conduct post-game interviews with CPF and players. While I was asking people to clear a path for Bob, he never looked over or said thank you or kiss my arse, he just pushed through never acknowledging any one. People were wanting to shake his hand, calling out his name for simple recognition, etc. He just barreled through without as much as a nod . . . to me, he came off as a prick.

Conversely, I had the great honor of meeting the great John Ward, he was warm, charming and personable!! Dang, I miss the legend!!

GBO

My experiences have been kinda the opposite. The couple of times I have seen Kesling, he has been nice enough. Back when I worked at the airport back in the mid 80s (parking lot). I encountered Coach Summitt, Coach DeVoe, and Coach Majors a "lot" (pun intended). Several good conversations with the first two, and might have had a few with Johnny. But he always had had a few. Saw Ward plenty of times, and he was never personable. I chalk that up to being ready to get home though. But I got to speak to him on campus once. And he was warm, charming and personable then.

But being warm charming and personable? I will trade that in for being the worth watching or listening to. And even though John might make a mistake here and there? He always recovered from it, and the fact he had your blood pumping during a broadcast made them inoffensive.

But thanks for showing Bob can be a prick. That would not bother me in the least if he had ever gotten my blood pumping once. But he hasn't. People who suck at what they do tend to cause that.

I kinda feel like Wayne Newton in that James Bond movie, "License to Kill": BLESS YOUR HEART!

Those 2 love each other, they hit up Long’s and Pete’s together at lease once or twice a week, Bob always attends and donates to anything Rick puts together…they both poke at each other but on air Bob is a bit more handcuffed than Rick, if it comes through as if they don’t get along then it’s probably just how it translates to radio cause the 2 are good friends.

This!
