Whale Wars

Just to clarify, my thoughts weren't for or against whaling but rather the Barney Fife's throwing acid bombs and ramming ships. I think it's incredibly arrogant and they deserve whatever comes their way.

same thoughts here brother...i feel like i started this thread.

Has anyone else watched this? I can't figure out why the whalers just don't come out with AK's or grenade launchers and send the eco-terrorists to the bottom of the deep blue sea.

The more I watch the show (Which really isn't all that often) the more I root for the Japanese.

More of the same this season. I don't know why I watch it.

I agree that whaling on that scale needs to stop because all signs do seem to indicate it is dangerous on the scale the Japanese have been doing this for years, but by all accounts, it's some of the worst seamanship on the part of any vessel of any decent size. Evar.

This last episode, one of the Japanese vessels deliberately ran over and took off the bow of one of the Sea Shepherds. It was pretty intense.

Their plan, short of hitting the decks of Japanese ships with butyric acid, seems to be camping out behind the slipway of the main Jap ship so they can't transport whales onboard. I don't have a problem with that, but man, they suck at pulling it off.

I love this show . I agree though , Paul Watson is the biggest idiot in the world . I like how the japs sent out a boat just to follow the steve Irwin and to send coordinates of thr location to the rest of the fleet .

Best show on TV IMO. All the japanese whalers need to be treated like the piece of crap they are, and their ships should all become a Coral Reef.

bump..

first time i've ever watched this ... the disrupters seem to have zero plan ... they spot a harpoon ship and they pass on it to go find another ship??? :eek:lol:

They passed on it so they could continue on with their mission which is to find the factory ship, not the harpoon ship (which worked). Seeing as how the boat was "undercover" why would they risk attacking the harpoon ship and alerting the whole whaling fleet that they were indeed Sea Shepards, and it was time to move locations?

iirc, the steve irwin had headed back to australia and the smaller vessel was looking for something .. anything ... I thought it was odd to pass up harassing the harpoon vessel since they're the one's that do the killing ...

turned out to be a mute point since the front of the ady gill got knocked off ... :eek:lol:

I wish I had an attack submarine. I'd just torpedo the heck out of both the whalers and the Sea Shepherds and call it a day...

i'm surprised the japs don't use non-lethal weapons ... like rubber bullets ... it would be fun if nothing else

According to Paul Watson the Japanese use "real" bullets. Do you remember that episode a few years ago where he faked suffering a gunshot? Classic :eek:lol:

Like I said before, they all need to GTFO of that region, both the whalers and the Sea Shepherds. It is one of the most abundant and flourishing wildlife areas in the world and they come in there with their huge gas guzzling boats, butyric acid and harpoons causing problems.

They all need to be prosecuted imo.

i just started watching ... i'll have to look up that episode ..

Yeah look it up. It's great.

He was "shot" by someone on another moving vessel which would require a high-powered scope and great marksmanship and he just "happened" to be wearing a bullet-proof vest at the time, yet no charges were filed against the Japanese which would have been a felony and a major setback for whaling operations in the area.

Too many coincidences for there to be any truth...

This is the ultimate solution, imo.

The Japanese "research" = total BS and everyone knows it.

The international community's lack of intervention in said BS= more BS

The "Sea Shepard" floundering around being dorks and costing credibility to their cause = even more BS.

I believe that the law of the sea prohibits commercial vessels from being outfitted with weapons.

Exactly, that's why the captain of the Ady Gil on this year's show is being prosecuted in Japan, because he boarded the whaling ship with a bow and arrow...

Watson's "gunshot" was ridiculous and furthered tarnished any remaining credibility he has left....

bow and arrow? lulz

Yeah man he's in deep over there. He could spend years in a Japanese prison if convicted. The thing about the show that also kinda sucks is it takes forever for the show to air.

You've gotta remember, all the stuff takes place in the Antarctic in Jan-Feb and they aren't able to air it until now. So if you happen to see any news clippings of it, it'll ruin the whole season. (Btw, sorry if I did that to you!)

All I am saying is that if a Boat ....The nisean maru 2 turned into a stopped boat, and took it out when there could have been people on board (and there was) their actions should have resulted in their deaths. That was a major act of aggression and should have been dealt with accordingly. Kudos for that dude jumping on board with a bow, and arrow, but he should have had an RPG.

The Ady should not have been that close to the whaling vessel. But, I'm with you on the Japanese, I think what they do is appalling and shadily finds loopholes in international laws.

That being said, the Sea Shepherds waste time and resources on the whole deal and then fabricate "offenses" by the Japanese just to further their own agendas and boarding another vessel with a compound bow and arrow is assault with a deadly weapon. The Japanese have never done anything but defend their vessels.

Like I said before, the Japanese need to GTFO of there and stop illegally hunting whales and the Sea Shepherds need to realize that we don't all need to be vegans and that they are ruining their credibility and innocence in the whole thing with their "you have to be able to die for the whales" spiel.
