There are a lot of things that Kiffin is re-assuring. That recruits should come here to prepare themselves for the NFL. That they can make Freshman All Americans.

I haven't heard anything that assures me that he can take the talent we have, and become a strong contender for the SEC for the next couple years.

Starting in September '09, are we going to be back to winning ball games and at least competing against the guys who've made fools of us the last couple years?

It just seems recruiting is #1 and nothing matters at this point, and it concerns me a little

I assumed that was because it's the heart of recruiting season. I imagine once NSD is over they'll focus more on player development (as far as sharing that info with us).

The cupboard is pretty much bare. Remember how Alabama's and Florida's talent on the field was clearly more superior? I know some will say we are not that far off but it was easy to see especially at the skill positions. Kiff has got to focus on bringing in talent to get on an even field.

recruiting is being stressed because that is the time of the year. we are still looking to land some talented recruits still out there while we can. all this media exposure is a great way to get that message out.

These are the guys that recruited all that talent at USC, remember ? Happier days are ahead for us !

I agree with Salute, I think after NSD you'll start hearing more about the other part of the equation. Right now putting the staff together and bringing in the next class is top priority.

What I'm saying, is this coaching staff going to be able to out coach and out think the other team as well as they can recruit? Or will we just have to play the waiting game?

In the presser, I must have heard them say at least 5-10 times that Knoxville is the place to come if you want to go to the NFL, because we will have the best coaching in the country. Our Coordinators and Position Coaches will be the best at what they do, and the best at coaching up our players to succeed at this level and the next.

Maybe I just imagined that?

It would concern me if I was a player.

The sophmores need to play well to stay on the field after next year as a senior. That is if you are going to be a Senior in 2010. Lane will give your start to the Frosh so fast it will make your head spin.

If they are a better football player! Jeez guys grow up.

You think this will affect us getting kids who aren't really interested in the NFL but are more interested in getting n education and just playing football

It's because you need the talent to compete with Florida, Bama and the elite teams in the NCAA. What do you expect them to do....go over our future game plans on a whiteboard like those UPS commercials for everyone to see?

The recruiting effect has is taking a positive turn for us. No matter what they say about their teaching techniques, We won't see it until they hit the field.

Sure, no recruit would want to play with all the guys that ARE going to the NFL.
Come on guys you are making crap up.

Right now it is recruiting season. There is very little you can be doing right now in the coach em up category. Right now we need to be exausting our efforts in getting the top talent wherever we can find it. The time for " Coahing them up" will come later right now lets be happy they are aggressivley seeking high caliber talent and worry about the rest when it is time. JMO

Chaney has produced top 10 offenses for around a decade. Monte Kiffin has outsmarted brighter minds than exist in today's SEC. We'll be fine.

I'm sure. Maybe I'm impatient, but I just really would love to see improvements right away. I wasn't questioning why Kiffin was only talking about recruiting, a lot of people took my post the wrong way

He specifically mentioned that we have better coaches than you can find in college or the NFL. Someone also referred to Monte Kiffin as the best defensive coordinator college football has ever seen.

Preparing players for the NFL and coaching players up go hand-n-hand. This staff will teach and prepare our current players as well as the recruits coming in.

I'm betting you can count the number of players that fit that description in the SEC (excluding Vandy) without removing your socks. I would also bet none of them made any of the all conf teams.
