West Virginia Scouting Report

Hmm.

Well, I feel pretty confident in a WVU win. Simply because teams coming off of bad seasons with a new coaching staff and a QB competition don't usually win big non-conference games to start the season.

However, I do think you guys will find offensive success. I'd expect your running game to really get going, and although you're line might not be good, your bluechip size alone will likely be able get push on our smaller defense.

Maybe, 31-21 WVU? Could see us get out to a fast start, maybe 24-7 at the half, but then the game kind of comes to a stall as your D figures out our offense and your offense starts to find success dinking and dunking down the field with short passes and a steady run game as you pick one QB and go with him.

One of two things is going to happen on Sep 1st.

Either it's going to go as you describe, which will mean that JG didn't get it going, and we ended up "managing" the game from the QB position, plus our OLine wasn't crisp, and our DBs weren't as far along as we'd hoped...

...or it's going to be a surprising win for the Vols. That will happen if the three big unknowns (QB, OL, and DB) do pull it together.

If it's the latter, that means our coaching staff is all they're meant to be. In that case, WVU should not (I know you will, but you shouldn't) be embarrassed to lose to these Vols. We'll be heading back into the mix in a pretty dramatic way if those key pieces are clicking.

Well a couple things, 1st off I don't think west va had a great season last year or even a good one( I know before you say it Grier got hurt, we've been dealing with injuries like that for the last 5 years) 2nd I wouldn't call WV a big non conference game, Oklahoma yeah WV no. WV needs to win something or anything for that matter to be called a big non conference opponent

You guys are 50-50 in your last 100 games. I'm doing you guys a favor by calling this a big game.

Heh, you'll have to forgive MBVFL1 for being so negative, SE. Our program and fan base have been through hell over the past ten years. There is a significant rift between where our long-term memory tells us we should be, and where our shorter-term memory tells us we are. Makes some folks pissy.

Mountaineers are a good, solid program. This is a big cross-conference game for both teams, there's no denying that. Neither of us is Little Sisters of the Poor, even if last year might've felt like it for the Vols.

WVU's RB's... especially Sinkfield and Leddie Brown... are better than average. Brown is a bigger back who runs with power and speed. Sinkfield is a HR hitter... smaller but has a major case of the zoomies.

McKoy is a polished runner but lacks true power or breakaway speed. He's equally good as a WR and plays the position like a true WR in that he catches the ball with his hands and runs crisp routes.

McKoy is starting because of his experience. Both Sinkfield and Brown have more talent. Pettaway is a power back. He's not a speed guy.

What? WV has never won anything that's a fact not an opinion and I don't need forgiven for anything. He has his opinion and I have mine not real sure what you had to do with it

I like WVU and their fans. I loved the Pat White domination of Oklahoma.
I liked Arian Foster sending Steve Slaton to the bench Ha! Sorry had to do it. Have a neighbor that from WV and we watch football all the time. Some cool folks. Hopefully I will be talking some serious trash if we beat them.

Really?? WV has never won anything EVER. Your right though this game won't be close, however I hope you stick around here even after the games over
Bruh WVU was 3-0 in BCS bowls since 2006, years and has had a few 10 win seasons scattered in there since. 1998 was two decades ago. Half the current team wasn't even alive yet.

Lol, to be fair, Slaton's chronically broken hand and insane fumbling issues put him on the bench and THEN they found Foster. Slaton was a good NFL player when he wasn't fumbling.

AF was the exact opposite. Dude had severe fumbling issues at UT but corrected them in the NFL. His fumbles were also monumental during some of the games we lost. He only had one good blocking OL at UT during the 07 season though.

Neither of them have taken a snap yet, we have no clue how good they are. I'm as excited about Sink as a guy can be, but I'm not gonna get ahead of myself.

And I didn't say Pett was a speed guy, I said he was a 1 cut and go guy. Which doesn't really have anything to do with speed. And if anything, he's showed us much more speed than he has power.

And your team is yet to play 100 games as a member of the Power 5...

The last 5 years, the Vols have 3 January Bowl wins to WVU's 0.

Tennessee has 1 less total win than WVU over the last 5 years (our worst 5 year stretch in history), factor in that you get Iowa State, Baylor, and Kansas every year in addition to an FCS...

I am a WVU grad and follow college football about as closely as anyone. There are some glaring omissions in the "scouting report" here.

This isn't a big game for the Vols, except that it's the next game, and the first for Pruitt. We play about 8 bigger programs every single year.

Grier was pretty terrible vs. us while at Florida. He was pretty average vs. Virginia Tech when WVU scored 21. He was pretty average against Iowa State when WVU scored 20, against TCU only scoring 24, against K State scoring 28. Last year is pretty meaningless in terms of next week's game, but we're not Delaware State or ECU where these stat padding numbers come from for Roid Rage and the white WR.

Vols big, and not because we're particularly good. We'll still be fighting for 6 wins.

Give me an omission.

I thought the post you were replying to was a little moronic. To be fair though, based on my quick math at the office, WVU is 59-41 in their past 100 games. 50-50 is not good, but 59-41 is not a whole lot better all things considered.
