Is anybody else in west TN listening to the press box on 96.5 right now?

They get a caller on there that claims he's a die hard Tennessee fan.

He then says that Vanderbilt and Memphis are pulling just as much in state talent as the Vols are right now and that Tennssee is nowhere close to the power they used to be.

He says the reason for Vandy and Memphis recruiting success is that they can say they run a clean program, and that if they win a bowl game, they can guarantee it won't get stripped in a few years..and that Tennessee can't guarantee that.

The host then says "Yeah maybe it's time that UT needs to start doing what Vanderbilt and Memphis are doing."

The caller said that UT isn't on Ohio State's level of national prominence anymore..does he not realize what's about to happen to that program?

He also said UT isn't in the "Ohio State's" of college football, then followed that statement with "Knoxville doesn't have beaches and mild weather."

Haha has he ever been to Colombus?

And the whole time the host (Jim Steele) is agreeing with him.

Sorry for the rant I just thought it was hilarious how people claim to be die hard fans and have no clue what they're talking about.

You have to let Vandy and Memphis fans do their talking before the season starts. Once it does start...they usually shut up for the rest of the year due to the beat downs that will take place for each program.

Yeah I agree but the caller and the host both claimed to be "die hard" UT fans.

It was just horrible to listen to.

Anyways! anyone watch college football blitz i think it comes back on at 1130, one host asked the other what young qb to be on the look out for this year and he said look out for Tyler Bray. he getting a little love

Also I'm glad to say that here in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia Bill Meade is definitely a pro-Tennessee talk show host!

Do yourself a favor, and skiP Past 1180 espn. Basillio blows, and Rucker will put you to sleep! The worst talk radio shows on air, easily!!!

Having lived in West TN for 9 years, (no offense to actual vol fans in that area) they're very out of touch on what's going on in the program unless they actually dig for good info. If you watch the jackson or memphis stations, the only time you hear about Tennessee is if they do bad. Its all about memphis around those parts. I think a couple of west Tennesseeans on here can back me up when I say this.

Yeah I was listening to the same program and just had to laugh. I just can help but wonder were they get this stuff from. Clueless is the only word that you can use. It's sad. They call them fans. Pathetic.

Did you also hear to the host say that we were loosing defensive lineman right and left. Malik is the only one I heard that was injured and he will be back in two weeks. It's just hilarious. NO IDEA!!

They do this to discourage kids from that region going to UT, because they are vandy/memphis fans even though they try to cover it up by saying they are UT fans at the start of the call.

I find it funny actually.. and truthfully until they change the silly laws they have governing practice amount and who you can have coach a high school team in TN, we just are not going to be that interested in 90% of the in state talent, which is a real shame, I would love to see this state be more of a football powerhouse and make the coaches jobs easier as far as recruiting goes. But it looks like we will have to continue recruiting nationally for a very long time.

Jim is a fair weather fan and his co host Matt is a jawga homer and the head coach of the inline skating team at bethel. There show really sucks! I don't listen to them anymore.

Steve from Lexington will straighten those guys out (just kidding). Trust me, they do not have a finger on the pulse of UT sports as it relates to fandom in west tn. There are very few Memphis or Vandy fans here in Jackson. More Ole Miss, State, and Bama fans here. Get outside in the surrounding areas and it's all Orange. Those guys basically agree with, or in the least don't make callers feel bad when they call in and sound stupid. I listen to it sometimes, but usually change the station.
