Wow. I like Wes, but the notion that the NCAA can control or regulate what random fans do on Facebook is absurd. If that's a violation, then we'll have to cancel every football season from now until facebook and everything like it is eliminated - every major school out there will have hundreds of violations a day. And the universities will never be able to stop it, thus demonstrating a 'lack of institutional control'. Death penalties all around, please.

As for 'stalking' in general, I don't do it. But I do note that it takes two to tango. If somebody wants to 'friend' an athlete that they don't know and he accepts - then it's their business. It's certainly not mine nor the ncaa's. Misses the definition of 'stalking' if the behavior is acceptable to the person in question.

it would be tough but I think it will become like a seatbelt violation while driving. They can't stop you for doing it but they sure will add on that extra ticket if you're speeding. No need to take that chance to post "OMG, Vols rule! Come to UT it's great!!!" on some HS kid's wall

For the record, I have been pulled over and given a ticket solely because the cop saw that I was not wearing my seatbelt.

Nothing creepy about it. IMO Wes' tweets are on the money and generally break previous to any other UT reporting source (excluding the occasional VN rumor thread). :good!:

Eh, if the players don't want to be stalked, then they shouldn't accept friend requests from people they don't know. If they are accepting them, then that's their choice and it's very possible that they like the attention.

I don't FB stalk, but I get why people do it. Most fans are starved for the insider/close to the source information, and these social networking sites are the closest most fans will come to that.

because it's well known that HS kids are famous for always making the right decision?

IMO if you're not actually friends with the person (have met/had a relationship with them in the past) then don't send the request. It goes both ways

Listen, I'm not gonna sit here and say that I don't visit recruits Facebook pages or kindly through in a "Go Vols" every now and then, but there's a button called "ignore" and "delete." I have seen numerous begging and pleading from fans from all schools, not just UT. The way I see it is, yes it can be creepy and may rub the recruit the wrong way, but hey if they don't want that on their pages, then delete the person.

I also think that half the people on here that say it's stalking or whatever, also happens to be the ones that depend on those that do "stalk" for information. I mean, where do you think people get their information. Even Wes Rucker stated that Dooley is a Sabanist for keeping things in the dark. Information is hardly being leaked. I've come to the conclusion that the recruits have their minds made up, one in particular being Ambles, and there's nothing that fans can do to change their minds. Ambles knows that UT fans are behind him. What's going to happen when or if Ambles choses USC? Are we going to write hate messages? I doubt it or hope not anyways. I think it is ok to be friends with a recruit, however; there is a fine line between stalker and friend. I try to offer general information, especially to those saying Ole Miss is better than UT. I mean come on? Just because you wooped us last year, we still had a 11 consecutive year advantage and should have made it 12.

I'm just stating what I think. Take it or leave it. I'm not a stalker. I'm not breaking into their sites. UT isn't the only school doing it and I've seen other recruits pages being filled up by other schools that don't have UT as a consideration. For those that believe it's stalking, don't rely on that information then from those who "stalk."

Really? What about those on Volnation that add people and talk to others that they don't even know? This is a stupid and pointless thread. Adults arguing over Facebook friend requests. If it doesn't affect you, then mind your own business IMO. If people want to make themselves look creepy, then so be it!! I had a recruit message me about a status that I had posted regarding a family matter. My grandfather that helped raise me got bad news that his lung cancer spot had grown and the recruit was very nice. It def meant something that he took the time to write me. I'm not friends with Layla K either, but she responds to my Tweets. Not every recruit believes it to be stalking and IMO they enjoy the attention because they tease the fans with eye-catching statuses. This is stupid.

disagree with Wes here. Most top recruits enjoy this attention, and if they wanted to avoid fans' writing on their walls all they would have to do is click on the privacy settings.... this is like hearing paris hilton say she wants the paparazzi to leave her alone.

Playing devil's advocate......

If a recruit didn't accept a friend request, then they would be blasted everywhere for thinking they were too good for everyone.

Kind of how some football players I knew always hated walking accross campus because they felt they had to say hello to everyone just because.

I disagree. I don't think anyone would get mad at someone for not requesting to be facebook friends with someone that they don't know.... And even if that were the case, you can set up your privacy settings so that your profile doesn't even come up if someone searches for you....I feel like this is much different than walking across campus b/c at least in this situation you are able to control how private you want to be. I also know of people who set up two facebook accounts, 1 for the public and the other that is more private.

I def see your point. You made me think of Lincoln and Crompton. Anyway's, the recruits aren't technically part of the school, so i highly doubt people would be so nasty if their requests were ignored. I could be wrong though.

If they thought it was so "creepy" or "stalkerish" then why would they accept 10,000 friends, 99% being people they don't know?

Sometimes people like Wes Rucker, or just pathetic people in general who exist only on the internet like to project their feelings on others. You make think it is creepy to have people you dont know watching your facebook. Then again, you aren't a 5 star athlete that loves attention and has had "all eyes on him" since puberty.

well I search some of the players names last night in facebook and saw "Zach Fulton" page. Vol fan where posting messges to him and on his status he had something about the VOL fans are the best. :whistling:
