Take it for what it's worth, but........

Reminder to #Vols fans: Contacting recruits via facebook and trying to convince them to sign with UT could be an NCAA violation.

Aside from that, it's just creepy. But I'm not the moral police. I'm just telling you it's not cool with the NCAA.

And FWIW, not naming names, some recruits have told me they're weirded out by it. If anything, it makes some wonder about that school.

Unless you are like....12, please don't Facebook stalk recruits. I agree with Wes, it's kind of creepy. :good!:

Wow I didn't realize UT fans were so ahead of the game when it comes to technology. I hear Georgia fans don't even know what facebook is.

Or....

UT fans are the only creepy stalker fans in CFB...? Dunno.

NCAA?

So they would subpoena Facebook for the person behind their profile, then find out if they are a booster at the school?

Sounds way too easy for some Gator fan to get UT in trouble unless they go thru the above hoops.

I think the NCAA frowns on this (as I do) and they are putting out the word to discourage it, but doubt they would pursue it.

most of his stuff is read by UT fans so that's why he's directing his comments that way. Every fan base has their fair share of creepy

I agree with it being creepy. NCAA violation?? gonna have trouble enforcing that I'm pretty sure. Authorities everywhere are going to have trouble enforcing any rule concerning the interwebs.

dont you have to be associated with the university before its a violation. If not thats like saying i cant tell a friend in high school to go to UT because im a fan. And I am NOT one of the ones that facebook stalk.

Wrong...that is what twitter is for...an outlet for others to read your thoughts/updates. now replying could be in poor taste.
Same concept with the facebook updates. I know they're not the same thing.

If you're only a fan. A lot of these people are students/alum.

Those recruits control who can see their information. They can block anyone, and they have to accept friends to follow them on FB. They can make their info public or private. If it's public...how can you say it's stalking.

Question..How can a committed player contact and recruit other players then...Seems everyone thinks this is ok. That's not stalking...

the NCAA definition of "booster" casts a pretty wide net. I believe a relationship that predates an athlete being recruited is ok though.

I think the issue is that "friend" doesn't mean the same thing it used to.
