Wes Rucker quotes Janzen Jackson

With our luck, he gets hurt. Watch it happen.

There are bigger problems with our special teams. JJ will not solve them. Why risk it?

Turnovers, field position, etc.

The way some people undervalue special teams is quite frustrating.

i hope oku does not transfer, that would be a poor choice by him considering he is only 1 injury away from starting role. I believe he can beat our Neal next season.

Oku has been worse this year. Not sure if its the weight he had to put on or what but he just doesn't have it. He needs to slim down and get his speed back. He isn't breaking tackles either way.

This many posts and nobody thinks that Rod Wilks should be back there? He would score on every return!

GO VOLS!!

If I had to chose one player to put back there in hopes of returning one for a TD, it's Jackson. He can Jack an opponent and take it home.

Having said that, I don't know that I could justify the risk.

I still don't see why we need returner. Just line up and block it everytime

Options:

-Rogers is teally fast. I wiuldb't.mind him back there. & fwiw, u remember Austin, his bro, being a good pass catcher.

-I agree with the poster who mentioned Jackson getting injured. The way this season is going, I wouldn't be surprised...

That said, I think he'd do quite well.

-Plain & simple, Gordon, if he stays back there, need to catch the dang ball.

-Oku leaving worries me, not necessarily solely b/c of him, but what others are thinking about "walking"? We can't afford any more loss of depth from non-graduating players!

Expect it ...worried is a light term. Jackson will be getting to do alot of what he wants to do going into the the end of the season. He will be tough sell....

With graduation and atrition expected ...and recruiting not looking to be on the upside ....it could be some lean years.

I would just be happy with someone back there that would be solid fielding the punt. Dont have to gain 40 yards evey return, just hold on to the ball and not gve it up.

Agree, as we give up 40 yards on muffed punts each week, it seems

I think the extra weight has slowed Oku down some and also he makes poor choices on which blockers he fallows.

Had this conversation with VOL fans during the game considering there seems to be at least one put on the turf about every game, why not just put on full punt block everytime with all 11 players? Either way, you're guaranteed to get the ball back.

Anybody can get injured, we need someone back there that can take care of business. Fumbling once a game back there doesn't cut it anyway you slice it. Dooley is right in shaking it up. Why put Oku back there right now all he does is tippy toe right into a defender this year, at least Gordon did run hard when he actually caught the ball. But as I stated you have to have someone that catches and runs hard and neither Gordon or Oku have done that this year. Oku for whatever reason seemed confused when he was back there anyone can just stammer areound and go down. GO VOLS! JJ will be better back there,IMHO!

Right, so just put Oku back there! At least he wont fumble and we wont risk getting JJ hurt.

I don't like risking JJ to injury.
Anyone who can either fair catch it or catch it, run for 5-8 yards, and go down, would be a massive improvement over Gordon.

Come on man! We've been over this, if Rod were to return punts, several things would happen.

1. Have you ever seen the Superman movie where he runs around the earth to stop time? Yeah, 100 yds is enough for Rod, he doesnt need the whole earth.

2. It wouldnt matter if time stopped or not, because the grip of his hands would cause the ball to go flat and the play would be blown dead anyway.

3. If for some reason, Rod doesnt pop the ball and slows down enough to not stop time, he would be charged with 1st degree murder, 11 counts to be exact because they deemed his Cyclops eye cover illegal in NCAA play. meaning that as soon as he steps on the field, he would have to keep his eyes closed in order not to destroy the players, stadium and whatever else he happened to glance at

I think i took that one a little far. Sorry, lol.

E Michigan, NTexas, Purdue, Kansas, So Carolina, Akron, Toledo, SMU, ULM, Illinois, Memphis, New Mexico.

These are the only teams in the nation worse than UT at returning punts. That is the problem the staff is trying to solve, and that is worth the risk.

I think we need to stick with Gordon until he feels comfortable back there.

I don't like throwing JJ back there at all ... Maybe Gerald Jones would be better?

As fast as JJ is, I bet that he does take one to the house. I don't remember all this whining when we had our other badarse free safety, Mr. Dale Carter returning punts!
