Wes Rucker quote about the game

I know Simms wasn't perfect but come on, you can't put our bad performance on him today. Our tackling was horrible and the offensive line gave him no time at all. This game Simms did not play all that bad.

Exactly! Correct! Right on the money! You nailed it!!:huggy:

Only 10 guys on the field for UAB's last 2 plays ????

According to Rucker's latest tweets, that is correct...makes you wonder if we should have played with 10 the whole game...was the only time we stopped them on 3rd down!

There is no way Bray can be as bad as Simms. It wont surprise me if Bray indeeds transfers.Simms does his usual thing and thats stare down WRs and doesnt either know when or how to throw the ball away.Id much rather lose with Bray getting the reps and experience than watch Simms lose and look pathetic.

where to start. bray has thrown something like 6 passes this year and has two picks. thats a hell of lot worse ratio than simms who if im correct once given time and trusted today made a certain throw that won tenn. the game but ya know wins arent important lets just get our future qb pumeled because hes not athletic enough to get away from defensive lineman barrelling down at him. not saying simms is perfect but who is hes gotten better and didnt throw a pick today give him a break for gods sake:no::banghead2::popcorn:

Bray doesn't have two picks.

i dont know his official stats but the point is simms is getting better i would call him average to good but when your team cant run and your always getting pressure how good do you expect him to throw plus hes more agile where as i think bray is to young and would throw a pick 6 or take a sack but that could make to much sense and im the delusional one :)

Simms is doing fine. He's progressing. I've changed my stance from the Oregon game. Keep Bray on the bench, let him learn the system, and then have an open QB competition next year. I was just busting your chops on the number of int's.

How is he getting better? Every game Simms plays OK in the first and then nothing in the second. He has a lot of Rex Grossman in him if you ask me, too much "screw it I'm going deep." I know the receivers were playing poorly, but Simms is just as inconsistent in putting the ball where it needs to be. Probably says more about the depth at QB when you have a guy who is mediocre at best, does nothing for an entire half, and ends up winning the game at the end.

I think Simms has been one of our better players. He gets hit every single time he throws the ball. Receivers are running wrong routes and dropping balls. He is not perfect but I like the way he has been playing.

Simms would look a lot better if the WR would catch the ball. Stocker is a joke this year.

Excellent points! I've never seen a team that cannot make a 3rd down, ever. Lots of mental mistakes too putting us in that position, penalties making a 3rd and 1 3rd & 6. Running on the next teams on our schedule will be much harder. If we don't establish the pass (listen up wide receivers) then we sure enough won't have any running room and they'll be putting 8 in the box and teeing off. Got to have a balanced attack and keep our D off the field as much as possible. Good job by Lincoln; glad for his confidence. We were oh so lucky their kicker kept missing. Fortunately we won but I think that it's a hollow win, UAB lost it more than we won it. We better get better quick or it's going to be an ugly 4-5 weeks. I still had rather go through this than have Fulmer back.

Simms has gotten better since Oregon. His accuracy and decision making under pressure are still lacking. I would still like to see him find an open receiver when the D sends 7. Somebody has got to be open in those scenarios, but he usually just has the deer in headlights look as a linebacker knocks him on his azz.

Simms is a first year starter. Remember how bad Crompton looked in the first half of last year? He turned it on later. Simms may do the same as he gets more comfortable with the offense. I hope it all clicks for the guy. Keep the faith.

I believe he is getting better, but he should get better. He hasn't played college FB much either - a 2nd team QB at Louisville as a freshman and then JUCO. Bray would also be getting better if he had played except I believe he would be hurt by now.

Aside from staring down his primary receiver, he desparately needs to use some touch once in awhile. Especially when he throws into coverage at Justin Hunter. Hunter was rated #2 in the high jump and #5 in the long jump in HS in the US. At 6' 4" and hands like glue, float one up to him and let him go over those short DBs and make a play.

Simms is gonna be fine, its early in the season. Unfortunately in true Vols fashion fans never know what team is going to be on the field on Saturdays. We're young and unpredictable. Being unpredictable is our trademark and has been for years. The fans just need to be patient and support the players and coaches.

All you folks truly crack me up. Simms or Bray, Bray or Simms.
Name ONE team in the SEC that has started 3 Freshman on the OL EVER. I don't think it has ever happened. Our offensive problems start and end with the OL. The playbook is so vanilla to keep things simple for the line that it is laughable, but that is what the coaches think is necessary to give the team the best chance to win.

I thought Simms looked much better but still isn't even a mediocre SEC QB, several of his completed throws would be picked off against an SEC opponent. Bray probably isn't ready though, either. It's just going to be a long year guys.

lmao @ blaming that piss poor performance on lack of depth. We were playing one of the worst teams in c-usa. Our depth shouldn't matter against them.

you will get a chance to see before Halloween. No way Simms, and likely Bray, survives October.. Nance will be QB in November

I could see this happening with our October schedule. It's going to be brutal and probably pretty hard to watch.

Laugh all you want, but it's the reality of where we are right now.
