Huff does because he read an economics book or something ......

Instead of saying "the vast majority of economists could be wrong about economics" how about explaining why they might be wrong? I don't think you guys have enough unserstanding to articulate a position beyond naysaying.

I will go as far as to say that there are different schools of economic thought, and some don't always get the results that they expect.

But how do the chips fall with protectionism? Even Marx was against it. All schools of thought are generally against it, as far as i know.

Most schools of thought are against getting ripped off also.

We need to make trade deals on a country by country basis so they are easier to enforce.

What Trump wants is far from protectionism. He has said many times he is a free, but fair trader. The NAFTA Agreement is being abused by Mexico and China is criminal in their trading polices using controlled currency combined with protectionism.
The USA purchases more finished goods than any 2 countries combined. We don't need to join groups.

Exactly, China is charging us tariffs and making it impossible for our goods to flow through. We can't keep getting ripped off. We want fair trade and trade agreements that can be enforced.

You guys, it's time to stop playin

"Any move by the United States to withdraw from NAFTA or to otherwise restrict automotive vehicle parts and components trade within North America will result in higher costs to producers, lower returns for investors, fewer choices for consumers, and a less competitive U.S. automotive and supplier industry," according to new research from the nonprofit Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich. (The report was funded by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a trade group.)

The Brookings Institute put it even more bluntly: "Trump strongly believes that protectionism is what will protect the American workers. He is wrong," wrote Dany Bahar, a fellow in the Global Economy and Development program of the nonprofit public policy research group.

Both reports make similar arguments: protectionist actions by the U.S. would trigger a trade war, which would drive up prices and hurt American consumers by reducing their purchasing power. Demand would fall, and companies would need fewer workers.

Instead of big blanket trade deals that don't work. He wants to do it country by country.

OK, cool. He's preached protectionism for 15 months. WTF are you guys talking about? Carrier. Chevy Cruze. You don't consider him a protectionist either?

He's going to take down regulation, that's why companies are coming back. The massive trade deals need to be fixed or abolished for smaller ones easier to change or enforce.

But it is a simple question you just completely avoided. Is he a protectionist?

Trump is going to make America more competitive to do business in - slashing regulations and taxes

China can't afford a trade war with us. Their economy is an illusion

Not full blown. He's not for countries taking advantage of the lack of enforcement on massive deals, but he's not going to slap a huge tariff on goods coming in.

If we are going to be competitive, why do we need protectionism?
