I see a lot of people freaking out on here which is understandible. I, as well as a lot of people, took last night's loss really hard. I know its tough right now and its been tough for so long but for the personel that we have right now, we're getting close. The bottom line is, our coaching staff is doing an excellent job(besides some random play calling blunders such as the 3 consecutive plays after nukes opening run). Hardesty is a horse and is giving his all for Tennessee on every play, I could not be more proud of how hard he runs. I also could not be more proud of our defense. although they got gashed often(against a very potent offense), they showed some incredible toughness, especially in the red zone. they were out there so often and for so long, i garauntee thats the most exhausted they have ever been in their lives. yet they showed no quit. Im the biggest crompton hater out there but im sorry, our recievers played worse than he did. they were downright pathetic. crompton and them did get going towards the end, and that was encouraging to see. the bottom line is we're close guys. we're still a pathetic excuse for an SEC team but we're close. to be somewhat in these ballgames against good SEC teams is saying something considering the people we have in there. Even though we're losing when we're hosting these recruits at home games, they still recognize the fans, and our passion. The atmosphere in Knoxville is undeniable and they see this. They also see that good things are going on. there is a good system in place, that will no doubt succeed with the right talent. Player development rivals that of no one. These kids arent blind, they see this. BLEED ORANGE, just ride these tough times out together our time will come! im out thanks for hearing my two cents.

Agree, I don't think some people understand how little talent and depth we actually have. This is not a 1 year plan; do your part and the good times will come, and that goes for everyone who leaves the game in the 3rd quarter and embarrasses the true fans and gives a bad showing to the recruits visiting. Would you want to come to a school where the fans are booing their own team and filing out of the stadium even before the 4th quarter, I know I wouldn't. Thanks to you all.

Great Post........I think we have an excellent coaching staff, I don't know if anyone noticed the pass play to stocker.....it was a great pass by crompton and we actually gained some yards....they ran this same play a couple of series later and crompton almost had an interception.....Point I am making is our staff is looking as hard as we are to find plays these guys can execute. They will figure it out and we will continue to get better.

great post!i know it will take time and we got the staff that can do it,,,BUT what recruits wanna come play for a loseing team...we might have a worst record than last year..you think our competition isnt gonna use that against us.. we need to start winning, and its gotta start now..irvin jumped ship..there might be more to follow..i pray to god there isnt... go vols

Interesting.... this is the same O-Line that has more holes in it than a Bill Clinton alibi?

Just my point -- they won't get better next year watching the game from the cheap seats, and our lack of depth this year will be filled with freshman next year.

Hopefully they're smart enough to realized they're playing with a short deck. Rebuilding year, they just need to minimize the damage this year and they'll be alright. I'd almost bet CLK has told most if not all of them it could be a rough year. Whoever comes will get a chance to compete and play right away. Those guys won't get that chance at places like Bama, Florida and some other schools who are already two deep in most spots now. If i were a recruit i'd want to play, rather than ride the pine for a year or two. It's obvious to anyone who isn't blind Tennessee needs some help especially on the offensive side of the football.

Yeah I know. I think that is why many of the posters on here are saying that we really won't see the fruits of CLK's labor and recruiting until 2011. I think I am starting to agree with that POV.

I saw a lot of potential during the two last drives of each half (against Burn). I think if we work on timing with the crossing and slant routes, we'll be money. I really don't want to see Hardesty go though...

not that an eric berry or hardesty are replaceable but we'll have talent there next year. same thing goes for big dan williams and rico. we'll be fine at those places. dt tackle kinda questionable but we'll see. as far as the OL goes....

Glad to see some sensible posts on VolNation for a change! To me…bottom line is—“are we better than last year and is the future brighter”? A definite “yes” for me. I’ll continue to suffer through the rebuilding process strongly believing in a bright future! Hang in there! It’s going to take a little time, but in a couple of years we’re going to enjoy the show!

From my vantage point at the Auburn game Hughes is already our best DT and not far away from being our best d lineman. I was sitting by an Auburn fan who asked who that #93 was after he swam through the line and crushed the Auburn RB for a loss. I told him he was just a Freshman. The rest of that game the Auburn fan kept looking at me and saying there's your boy after Hughes made a big play. He's fast becoming my favorite player. He's got an awesome build for DT, tall, thick and athletic. Williams looks short and fat next to Hughes.
