Heupel will Never lead us to any kind of championship, you shall see

100% do not agree:

1) CJH still cant manage a game, its like he's unaware of how to employ game strategy and timeouts
2) Tenn needs a reliable kicker
3) Def will still be a liability next year, takes 2-3 years to realize the benefits of new DC's scheme and get his players.
4) CJH lacks a killer instinct and therefore the team does and will not play to put games away. Reminds me of the old Fulmer playing not to lose crap.
5) Team lacks discipline, they are not process focused, pushed to execute correctly and with effort on every play regardless of the situation. The Saban way, most recently showing fruits with Curt Cignetti @ Indiana (with way less NIL $).

Zero quality wins with the NIL$ Tenn spends, and the "talent fee" for what? Crap uninspired football?

Recruiting Rankings:
2025 Tenn 11, Illinois 46
2024 Tenn 14, Illinois 49
2023 Tenn 10, Illinois 38

Sabans & Cignettis are rare.

I love Tenn but CJH is not the guy, he's awful in games with adjustments, wont engage or work the refs, doesn't fire up his team, looks like a whipped dog or husband who cant lead.

Yes he's better than terrible.
Don't forget the nagging cough

I'm curious as to who the DC might retain on his staff - anyone? If he does, who does he keep, if any. Second, IMO, it took Venebles 3 years to field a stout defense to compete in this league - even coming from Clemson in the ACC. While he did it, this year, it did take him a few years at OU. Is TN's roster that far removed from the D he wants to run? If so, how many "years" will it take to get there. Bottom line, win or lose, we still have to change DCs. And I'm assuming others.

Well said. This was the youngest team in the SEC and indeed a super recruiting class reports in. Josh is a high quality coach who can compete and win in the SEC.

The game reinforced several needs dramatically. Defensive staff is being realigned ASAP and portal help will be coming soon. Joey will be an all time favorite but the book likely closes on that chapter and a portal qb will take precedent. The immediate need for an SEC quality kicker is apparent. The season could look significantly different with a clutch reliable kicker.

Congratulations to Illinois on a well played game. I enjoyed seeing this Vol team play again but they were definitely not Top 25 or with ability to defeat a good team. The loss will reinforce urgency to the coaching staff and Danny White to make some aggressive moves.

These efforts are already underway and Tennessee Football (and overall athletics) are in good hands. It will be fun to see Kiffin’s first LSU squad and Texas get their butts kicked in Neyland next season.

My honest assessment is that this was a big game for Illinois while the VOLS played uninspired football, a year removed from the CFP. The products of both were displayed on the field tonight.

There are aspects here that are real concerns, no doubt. IMO.

If Heupel’s floor was lower than this year, he be 7-6 or worse. He would be gone just like the last 3 are.

Game Management? How did he screw up TOs tonight? I’d love to see all these geniuses handle a 2 minute drill just once. You’d **** your pants.

No coach can stop a team running for 6 yds per carry during the game. You stop that recruiting. If you want to criticize Heupel AND Garner for not getting DL help in the portal last year, fine but that’s the only way you stop someone running right at you all night.
Seriously? TOs were an issue all season, use zero in the first half? May stop before the 2 min TO?

I coach HS ball and have lead units in war, grow up child. Football is not that hard.

How about being completely unprepared again?

Do you not understand the concept of accountability? CJH is the CEO, cash the check own the organization.

He had a season's full of data on crap tackling, it worsened over the year.

I think most fans can take a hard fought loss where effort and focus is obvious, where there is a plan but just bested by a better team that game.

This was not the case.

Maybe sit this one out.

You drink too much orange Kool Aid. I would gladly put money on LSU and Texas next year. You think our staff can out coach Kiffin? Not a chance. Texas.....their talent will win that game in spite of Sark.

Well said. Have you guys seen videos of Saban's practices? If he sees a repeated mistake in practice he doesn't leave it up to his position coach to do something. He runs over and screams at the player to shame him in front of everyone and then tells him, again, how to do the assignment and what is expected. You saw very little error in the teams he prepared. I've seen him say how you execute what is expected of you ON THE NEXT PLAY can decide if we win or lose. Every play had to be executed correctly by each INDIVIDUAL player. If he had a tight rope on a player and they messed up in a game he would meet them on the sideline and give them the what for. We don't have that on our staff. We don't demand execution on every play. We don't get in a player's face when he needs it. We don't do every thing necessary to go to the next level.

We need the address the strength and conditioning deficiencies. Other than that, I agree.

If he scores points then why did we lose 4 games scoring in the 20's? Against most good teams his offense disappears.

You are correct...Falls back on coaching, to motivate, put the right players in the right position, and play calling? CJH got smoked again, a mediocre coach with less talent........seeing a pattern here. ..........Tell me I'm wrong.

Our program is equal with Mizzou and Iowa type teams right now, middle of the road teams. Alot of fans don’t want to hear that but it’s true. We aren’t elite , traditionally we are a 8-4, 9-3 type program the 90’s were an anomaly they are never coming back. It’s been 27 years now since we last won a national title the same amount for the SEC title. Does anyone seriously Heupel is gonna do that in the next four years?

Sure. Let’s lower our expectations and be happy with participation trophy’s because we’ve always been a mid tier program. Believe it or not, UT football was alive and well before the 1990s. Do Neyland’s 30 years of building the program and winning more than 80 % of his games not count? How about the mid 60s to early 70s when we were a too 5-10 team every year? The 90s alone do not define our 120+ year history. An 8-5 season is not the norm, it’s an anomaly. Please stop downgrading our program by making excuses for mediocrity.

He has peaked here imo
Peaked with a team assembled mostly of the previous regimes players. Let that sink in for a minute.

Completely a different coach from the 21, 22 and even the 23 season. Golesh was a bigger part of the success than I think many realized, but there has to be more to this toned down and scared version of Heupel we have now.

Most disappointing thing to me is the majority of the recruiting the last 3 years has been on defensive players & im just not seeing much to get excited about outside of Redmond, Perlotte, Spillman & Dye.
This. No idea how the new coordinator will do but it almost always takes at least a year to acclimate. Honestly I don’t feel great about the O-line either. Really feel like it’s another 8 win season.

I’m honestly not worried. I usually am annoyed when we lose but I’m like “meh” for this game. I’m very optimistic about next season and so excited for it!

Hey Pal, you tried to bring some sound and informed reasoning to the board but as usual, it got hijacked by a bunch of miserable and whiny posters. The usual suspects making every effort to ooze their own misery on everyone else with their usual know-nothing takes
