As far as cleats and quality go, I'm a collegiate soccer player and I much prefer Nike to Adidas.
I have bought two pairs of Adidas cleats and the first pair didn't last half a season. The second pair lasted roughly a season and the bottom separated from the shoe. The Nike cleats, on the other hand, have literally not failed once. I still own a pair that I use for recreational play that I bought in high school.
And Adidas is more well-known for their soccer apparel.
I can't speak to football cleats but as for soccer, I much prefer Nike.
Diadora cleats are junk in my experience. Asics made great cleats. But I still swear by my preds. If you were a true next level soccer player, you would most likely look into a high end, soccer specific brand. If you like the artificial leathers, gloss finish and colors then you go with Nike or Adidas. If you want the finest leathers, you go with Diadora, Puma, Joma, Asics
I don't wear either when playing soccer but I have no clue how you manage to blow out pairs of Adidas that fast if you're buying any of their higher level models. Hell, I knew people who played for years and years in the same pair of Copas.
Let me preface this with I''m all about UT switching to Nike. It is going to make a big difference in recruiting in football, mens and women's bball, and a couple of other sports.
It's been said by kickers that the Adidas balls suck for kickers and Nike footballs travel a good 5-7 yards farther. Again another plus for Nike.
Adidas apparel will not sell as well as Nike apparel overall.
This is all that matters to me, as football is king and Nike is going to excite a lot of recruits compared to Adidas.
On the flipside, i gotta disagree, as a former D1 soccer player also, my copa's are the best cleats bar none for regular field conditions. If the field is really wet, i preferred using my puma kings or diadora's for screw in cleats. The samba K classics and the milleniums (Adidas) are again the best indoor soccer shoes.
Adidas owned brands for golf (Taylormade and Adams Golf) are clearly superior to the junk Nike makes for golf. Nike makes better golf shirts and golf cleats but that's about it.
Anyhow both Nike and Adidas have their niche's as far as athletic equipment and performance, but Nike is going to be a HUGE factor in recruiting. Kids in America prefer Nike except for soccer players and even younger soccer players are starting to prefer nike products. Switching to Nike is going to be a big positive for our program IMO.
Just another sign of Butch Jones' innovation. Theoretically it is not a big deal, technically it is a huge deal. Nike has shown they are willing to think outside the box and innovate much more than Adidas has in our decade. The younger generation i.e recruits are much more excited about rocking swooshes and the exciting new products that come along with them. Not to mention the extra exposure this will give the school. Butch has some great plans and executes them flawlessly.
We were very thorough and deliberate in assessing and evaluating our options with our apparel partner decision, athletics director Dave Hart said in a news release. NIKE is the right partner for the University of Tennessee moving forward. We appreciate our current partner and the strong relationship we have had for many years. We will continue to work together through the end of the existing contract.
NIKE is especially proud to resume our association with the University of Tennessee said Kit Morris, Nike Sports Marketing Director. We admire their rich tradition and are enthusiastic to begin working once again with Volunteer student-athletes, coaches, and programs.
The 24-page contract with NIKE includes several noteworthy incentive clauses. For instance, Tennessee will receive an additional $10,000 from NIKE for each time the football team participates in an SEC Championship Game. There will be another $20,000 for winning an SEC Championship Game. A bowl game brings a $25,000 bonus. Making the BCS title game nets $50,000, and winning it brings $100,000.
Mens basketball has the following incentives:
$10,000 for winning the SEC Tournament
$25,000 for making the NCAA Tournaments Final Four
$50,000 for winning the NCAA Tournament
Womens basketball incentives are as follows:
$5,000 for winning the SEC Tournament
$10,000 for making the NCAA Tournaments Final Four
$15,000 for winning the NCAA Tournament

I still have my Copa's from High School. Great shoes. But I loved my Vapor's even more. Especially for kicking the football. My college field was the good old astro turf and I would use Diadora indoor shoes for my plant foot and the Vapor's on my kicking foot. You have more feel with the Vapor's and it hugs your foot better, plus they looked sweet as hell. But as long as it says UT on it we will buy it.
