Well, Petrino just fired the entire Arkansas def staff

I just don't see the logic in this. What are you going to do? Hire Kevin Steele and try to install a defense in a week and hope firing their entire staff doesn't make the D just lay down or transfer out?
My guess is it is something like insubordination. The Defensive staff probably told the old OC/interim HC to leave them alone and CBP couldnt allow that to stand.

They have the chance to get the new staff in place ...
How do you get a viable "new staff" in place when all the coaches that are competent are coaching elsewhere? And, how motivated do you think the remaining staff will be when they are likely going to be looking for employment elsewhere at the end of the season? It was time to unite the staff--not gut it. If our D plays well vs. Arky, we score 70+.

One thing I'm very interested to see is if that teams plays as hard for Petrino as they did Pittman. I don't see him getting more out of what they've got.

I also find it odd they chose to fire him after losing a game Arkansas is supposed to lose to. I don't know who was favored or care—the disparity in those two rosters couldn't be more apparent. Notre Dame has resources Arkansas couldn't hope to have. I guess it's because Pittman doesn't make a habit of losing to teams he's supposed to beat?
It was the way they lost. It was over at half and the team gave up. Also, they lost to Memphis the previous week and he had an overall losing record. If I had Petrino in the wings and Tayler Green healthy, I’d take that since the season is pretty much already lost.

It’s a lot easier for an intern coach to fire people than it is for him to hire new people…I mean, who in their right mind would come to Arky under an interim coach? You got seven games then if this guy isn’t hired as the permanent coach then your looking for another job…even if Petrino does get the gig after the season he could still cut you loose once the season is over and he can attract more established coordinators…

so who is gonna be coaching their D?

Exactly, changing a bad defense into a good one in 2 weeks takes more than a staff.. takes miracles. I do not think their issues on defense were because of the staff....

It will be interesting to see how the new defensive staff can build a connection with the kids and how a new defensive schemes will be implemented and accepted by the team.

If Arkansas comes in to Neyland and keeps it close and winnable late the 4th quarter, I'll be disappointed.
So the Irish pummeled the Hogs, which should be their only loss thus far.
Arky is not bad on O, and should have won @ Ole Miss and @ Memphis, losing both games to fumbles inside the 5 for winning scores. Both games would have been won in the closing seconds if not for turnovers, unreal.
I think we win but I I also realize this is the SEC and if we don’t play clean, we can go down.
I’m optimistic that our best ball is ahead of us, but I don’t like this scenario.

I heard some sports show say Pittman had only one win against a top 5 team and wondered gee, who could that be ? Yes, the Vols gave him new life last year when he was probably on the hot seat then.

"This is one of the worst defenses in the country and Tenn is struggling to move the ball on them."
"Arkansas is playing inspired ball."
"Wow, Talen Green converts on 3rd and 17!"
BVS is still alive in us.
