Well, it might complicate the scout? If the admin forced him to retain the staff, I wonder if that would signal surrender? Maybe they're letting him replace everyone with the idea that he might be the replacement after all? Might be the only way to keep the roster from falling apart plus they get a body of work to eval before making decisions. Interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Just hope we take care of business in 2 weeks. This can't be the Heupel stinker lurking in the weeds can it? Surely not.

I think Saturday was the Huepel stinker. Its just this team is mature enough to power through it. Looks like Chris Wilson is taking over the play calling.

One thing I'm very interested to see is if that teams plays as hard for Petrino as they did Pittman. I don't see him getting more out of what they've got.

I also find it odd they chose to fire him after losing a game Arkansas is supposed to lose to. I don't know who was favored or care—the disparity in those two rosters couldn't be more apparent. Notre Dame has resources Arkansas couldn't hope to have. I guess it's because Pittman doesn't make a habit of losing to teams he's supposed to beat?

It might just be the one game bump it effort. Petrino gets to sell the "us against the world, no one expects us to win, turning over a new leaf" for at least one game before reality hits.

I’m wondering how long Petrino has known that he will need to replace Pittman. To have replacements for all of their defensive staff ready suggests that he’s been let in on it for some time.

I’ll be surprised if they aren’t moving furniture still by the end of this week.

Sounds to me like a plan has been in the works. For Petrino to cut coaches, he must have new coaches already in mind and possibly has them lined up, ready to take the job. Pittman probably isn‘t feeling too bad, he just got a big pay day and given his age, he might just ride off into the sunset. Apparently there are a lot of decommits since the firing. I haven’t checked their list of commits, but maybe there’s a guy or two we can scoop up.

It’s either this, or Petrino has been plotting this coupe since he took the OC job.

The way Arkansas forced Pittman to hire Petrino, I wouldn’t be shocked if they asked Pittman to coach under Petrino while getting paid his buyout. Arkansas has been goofy since they fired Petrino in the first place.

Probably had more to do with the timing of their off week. I think Bobby P may have already been told the job is his going forward. He's already firing assistant coaches so that speaks volumes. Who, in their right mind, would take a job at Arkansas now without a head coach on board.

That’s for sure. I wouldn’t trust Petrino as far as I can throw him. The sleaze factor is big with him. I hope Josh hangs 70 on him.

Agree. I just can’t see some new coaches walking in and installing a different new and improved defensive system in 10 days. If we can contain Green, we’ll be fine. If we can’t beat this AR team fairly handily at home, we didn’t have any business talking about playoffs anyway.

The only thing I can think of is that there are some analysts loyal to Petrino on staff that he will promote to on the field coaches. Almost like this was planned all along.

That's what I thought. Pretty strong move for an "interim" coach, considering the new "permanent" coach would want to select his own staff. It should make it hard to hire any defensive staff now and give them any confidence regarding how long they'd be there, if Petrino's not going to be the guy going forward.
