Well, Petrino just fired the entire Arkansas def staff

I just don't see the logic in this. What are you going to do? Hire Kevin Steele and try to install a defense in a week and hope firing their entire staff doesn't make the D just lay down or transfer out?
The logic is you now have an experienced collegiate head coach who has won everywhere he's been, including BCS bowls, now calling the shots and putting together the game plan. Our guys better be ready to see things that they won't find on film.

No chance they can install a new defense in less than 2 weeks. And I’m sure the defense is real pleased that most of their coaches have been fired. Most of them are probably already filling out their transfer papers. I’ll be shocked if we don’t put up 50 on them.
That was my first reaction, too.

But after thinking about it, the first thing an interim or new coach does is listen to his players and let them air their grievances. I feel confident that Petrino would not have fired these coaches if the players had expressed any confidence in them.

For whatever reasons, I think the players wanted this change, and I expect they will play with renewed commitment before they turn their attention to the portal. Even those who know they want to leave Arkansas will view the rest of this season as an opportunity to prove on the field their value in the portal.

So, I'm thinking none of this news is of any benefit to Tennessee two weeks from now.

Apparently Williams forgot how to coach over the winter. Broyles nominee the last 2 years to now not being able to coach.
I bet what has happened, and I'm just reading tea leaves, is there was a division on the coaching staff between guys who supported Petrino and guys who were loyal to Pittman. It really sounds like there was a lot of ugliness behind the scenes. I don't think it surprises anyone Petrino would be capable of that.

The mod on the Arkansas 247 board says Rhett Lashlee doesn't think you can win at Arkansas and that "there are influential people in central Arkansas who want Bobby Petrino to make this work and carry on as head coach."

Bobby did a number on Sam Pittman didn't he? But karma is undefeated.
Ha..Kinda possible huh? Lord knows Petrino has a shady past. He maybe a Bobby but, no Bobby Brady. Sorta reminds me of Fulmer squeezing Major's out if so.

It’s a great idea but I can’t I is world where Ellerbee wants Pittman looking over his shoulder.
Idk. Elarbee is pretty comfortable in his position. He’s been with Heupel a longgg time. Personally I want someone who can recruit at a high level like Chop but to assist with the Oline.

Pittman I would imagine ends up at Georgia if he wants to in some capacity. He will have a job somewhere as a Oline coach and it won’t take long.

Yeah, of course I thought the same thing. It is eerily similar. And Sam gave Bobby a job after he got Jimbo fired from A&M. I don't think teams were beating the door down for him. Kind of makes me wonder if Pittman was strong armed into that hire.
