I have heard reports that the NCAA is after Kiffin more than the program so hopefully he's the one they nail.
Is it possible to levy sanctions against a former coach rather than the school at which the alleged transgressions took place, pard? Would the NCAA punish the Southern California football program or just the coach?
It would make more sense to go after the guy who did the crimes. We will likely get something just so the NCAA can send a message, but it won't be nearly as bad as if Kiffin were still here. It doesn't make much sense to bring the hammer down on a staff that had nothing to so with Kiffin's transgressions.

Hell, I agree with that completely, pard. I have just never heard of the sactions followin' a coach to a new program, it bein' an institutional control deal and all.
Fortunately for you, pard, none of the teams you favor...the Panthers, Bobcats, or Demon Deacons...have anything to worry about in terms of penalties or sanctions.
For one, the NFL and NBA don't care that they both suck, and two...when is the last time the NCAA landed on a team as crappy as Wake Forest?
Hope is not lost. Maybe you can find a hooker to claim that three Syracuse players made her learn math while Wake Forest players watched.
Never before...seriously, never...have I seen a poster here who was a fan of the absolute model of underachievement that the Panthers, Bobcats, and Demon Deacons are.
(sigh) No wonder you came here, pard. A 6-7 UT team must look like a winning lottery ticket to you.
Go Vols.
I would respectfully disagree with you to a large degree. If a program is not held responsible for the actions of their coaches, then there are no incentives for them to hire well, instruct their coaches, oversee and monitor. Schools could simply hire unethical types and let them go if/when they get caught. Kiffin's actions stick with Tennessee, unless the school can properly convince the NCAA that they tried to keep him in check and he was just a rebel. They'll need to show that they gave him specific instructions which he ignored, and that he hid his violations from the University, despite their appropriate actions to keep tabs on him.
Back when TN answered the charges and included the part about having told Kiffin specifically not to take Rubio on recruiting trips, that was their attempt to diminish their culpability on those improper contact charges. That part might fly, however there is always the issue of whether the University paid Rubio's travel expenses for those trips. You can't say that you forbid an employee to make specific trips, and then pay them for doing so. And, if you noticed the recent announcement that UT had instituted the use of new software to monitor recruit contacts, that was a last minute move to "we've taken proper steps to make sure it doesn't happen again."
We may get lucky and escape serious damage. But, it won't be, and shouldn't be, simply because it all falls on Kiffin. The school has a duty to control their coaches, and monitor their actions. That's the only proper way the system can work, to the extent it does work.
