Simultaneously Hood, who grew up in Kingsport and rooting for the Vols, was also being recruited by Fulmer. But once word of Hood's criminal past hit the university, Fulmer ceased pursuing the prospect.

Vols catch grief over football scholarship to Kingsport native convicted of rape as juvenile - Kingsport Times-News Online

Men’s athletic director Mike Hamilton said: “Daniel made a terrible mistake a number of years ago and was involved in a very bad thing. He’s very remorseful and has worked hard to turn his life around.

Thanks Mike, now go watch Barney and Friends .

I agree. Under Fulmer they waited until they got to college before committing crimes.

But, if you read the article on Hood in yesterdays KNS (i know, consider the source) the kid sounds like he's cleaned up his act and is trying to move forward. So how was CPF right??

Fulmer just didn't want to deal with what everybody would say if he signed Hood. It was just CPF playing it safe like he always did.

Yes…..PF did such a nice job of handling the discipline of Britton Colquitt….just to name one bad example of lack of discipline.

i don't get all the Fulmer hate..He brought you a Championship, lots of NFL players and many great wins.

I know him well, high character guy. All of you should be thankful for what he has done for the program. He would give every kid a chance. But also kick very good players if they don't get it. Ontario Smith anyone?

I wish our new coaches well, but there have a long road ahead of them before they reach Fulmer status.

Really curious how a minor's (he was 14 at the time) court record ends up being publicly disclosed. Was he tried as an adult?

How many SEC titles did he win in his last ten years in charge? Since "know him well" pass along my congratulations to him on his unemployment.

It's not Fulmer hate. Just pointing out that he had his failings with regard to kids with criminal behavior just like everyone else. The "bad stuff like this wouldn't have happened if Fulmer was still around" argument is completely lame.

he was actually 13 at the time of the event. not to mention, the kid that stated in his testimony that he was the sole person who committed the crime. that same kid was also the victim's boyfriend at the time.

...Of course they did things like smoke pot or driving on a sidewalk....not convicted rape

Two very, very different things in the extremes

Hat, I wish you were the coach for Tennessee so that we could win countless championships and never have down years. Oh, and being unemployed when you've got tens of millions of dollars is not really all that trying. I'm almost certain that Fulmer has a rainy day fund. Speaking of moneys, did you win any green at the Derby?

Mine That Bird treated me well. The rest of the weekend was pretty much a wash.

Then you should look at the Kentucky Derby thread on this very site where I called MTB as one of the four horses I liked last week. What you smell must be on the bottom of your shoe.

It's one thing to call an upset, but quite another to put money on it. I'm not trying to pick a fight on this one, but you can see why one would be skeptical.

Why? How hard is it to walk to the window and place a $50 win bet on the longshot you think has the best chance? It's not rocket science.

in the context of expected values, it would have been senseless not to place that bet.

Yes thanks to Fulmer for the good memories through the first 10 years, however that road ahead for the new coaches is much longer now thanks to how Fulmer left the program.

Believe me, I understand rocket science just fine, and this isn't hard to believe either. I'm just saying its pretty easy to lie about winning a few thousand bucks on a discussion forum. I'm not saying you are lying, I'm just saying it could be a possibility.
