SportingNews.com's Matt Hayes reported Wednesday that former NFL coach Jon Gruden also rebuffed Tennessee, leaving Duke coach David Cutlcliffe, Houston coach Kevin Sumlin and former Vols coach Phillip Fulmer as potential candidates for the opening.

Dear God in heaven. If that's really where we are, then we are screwed.

Dude this is the same stuff from yesterday. They are just reprinting a quote over and over from the Athletic Department at Texas. We are still on know little mode. It sounds like from what I read on here Hamilton told him he had to retain some of our staff and he wants complete power.

If we hire Sumlin, Cutcliffe, or anybody else with similiar styles/credentials......we're in for a long, long, long year. If they don't at least pursue Kirby Smart I say Hamilton is digging his own grave.

If this is true that they have really turned us down, I have a list of three that I hope we call before going to Coach Cut.
These are coaches who might actually say yes. I say call Smart, Sumlin, Edsall, and Calhoun. If those three guys turn you down, then you call Cut. If he says no, then you give it to Kippy.

I would seriously take Leach over any of those remaining candidates!! Loopy or not, the man can coach and has a well disciplined TT team for years!!

I hope MH has more fire power than that!!

And yes I agree, that info was posted last night!!

I just dont want this hire to be the punch line of jokes next season. If you like your job ham youll give whatever it takes to the top guy. whatever it takes!

Watch it be Calhoun. Kippy knows Calhoun from Houston and would more than likely retain the current staff, including Kippy and Chaney.

Jeff Jacoby read a letter from Phil Fulmer this morning. It said that he was not interested in the HC job.

Does Ham not realize he cant strike out again. If you cant cut it at air force you wont cut it in the SEC...

Hey bring in the pirate and his dark shed too!!! He showed loyalty to a school that did not appreciate him.. Take us to a bowl 10 years straight while playing in the SEC east and return us to National prominence.

It's pretty depressing to me that we can't even hire an assistant coach to come here at three times their present salary. Muschamp might have to sit in the wings for four or five years at Texas, or maybe more if Brown decides to become the next Bowden or Peterno. With the difficulty of recruiting here anyway, the flight of this year's recruiting class, and the gaping holes at numerous positions on the team, maybe top flight coaches view us as too much of a career risk. I think our chances are pretty slim of competing with the top schools in the league for a long time unless we get a big name coach. In my mind, Cutcliff and other coaches of his ilk will only translate to years of mediocrity, with annual azz whippings by Bama, Florida and Georgia. I need an anti-depressant for sure.

If this is what We are down to I would gladly take the psycho pirate EASILY over any of the guys mentioned...I'm sure UT can hook him up with a custom closet for disiplinary reasons...These choices are horrid...I really do not want to go back in the past with coach Cut....Fulmer is a no brainer..We already been there and done that...The fans would abandon the program if Fulmer came back...This had better be a big splash hire or Hamilton is going to be on the chopping block..
