I'm betting the DNC doesn't have the debt clock ticking away in the background.

Yeah that wouldn't work out so well I would say, but I do recall this little gem..

This is big -- the President today promised that by the end of his first term, he will cut in half the massive federal deficit we've inherited. And we'll do it in a new way: honestly and candidly.

"This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we've long neglected," President Obama said. "But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay -- and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control."

That is embarrassing.

From cutting the deficit in half, to almost doubling the national debt.

Good job.

A few good men had it right in the beginning:

"To contract new debts is not the way to pay old ones." - George Washington

There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. "One is by the sword. The other is by debt.” - John Adams

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world." - Thomas Jefferson

His isn't exempt as that administration would like to believe.

No, he is not. But, then again, you're deflecting the real issue. Fact is that our system has enjoyed the fat of the land (too successful for its own good, so to speak) and has become jaded.

Not deflecting the issue here at all. I agree that this has been the responsibility of several administrations in the making. However, with his own quotes stating that the rest of us have to take responsibility for our own financial choices and decisions regarding our own future and for those of our children, is more or less the pot calling the kettle black. It's a "do as I say, not as I do" mentality.

If your job is to lead, then lead by example.

I understand the sentiment but quoting Jefferson about debt is pretty funny

So weren't these the same guys that, in 1790, passed the first tax act to cover a debt that was incurred by, guess who, these same guys? Did they ever pay off that debt or were we still in debt decades later?
