This is a great place to spend your New Year's holiday. Lots of stuff to do and the weather is not bad. I hope to see plenty of ORANGE.

Unfortunately, my call schedule prohibits my return to my former residence for the Outback. I lived in Westchase for 3 years during residency, and I will say to all UT fans: TAMPA IS A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT!!! I call it the Atlanta of the Florida Coast. Great food, great nightlife, lots of young professionals who love to have a good time, and the beach is only 20 minutes away.

Everyone go, if possible. Post requests for advice on places to go, stay, play golf, or eat, and I'll help out if I can!

I am working on trying to get to this game. Once I can get things covered over those few days, then I'll start working on trying to find a pair of tickets.

I have never been to Tampa, but cant think of a better reason to go there for the first time.

You should make a point to go to Ybor City (pronounced EE-BOR). It is a great place to have a cigar and check out the local attractions. Do not leave Tampa without having a pressed Cuban sandwich and a bag of Chifles. If anybody needs anything let me know and I will do my best to help. Sorry I have already promised the spare bedrooms to my fraternity brothers.

Should have been playing in the Peach Bowl vs Va Tech. Driveable distance and a much overdue matchup. It all boils down to money. Peach bowl pays 2M.....Outback pays 5M

I visited St. Pete when I was a kid. Do they still have the round Hilton? The large Pink Hotel? A restraunt called the Kingfish?

I don't venture into St. Pete too often, but I can say that the Don Cesar boasts "Big League" accomodations. If that is your cup of tea, the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Hotel is quite nice as well.

If anyone is looking for extra tickets, I'll have 4 together for sale as of December 13th. PM me if you're interested.

The "round" hotel is now a Holiday Inn. The Don is in a league of its own as far as accommodations go. We actually stayed in the Don Cesar "Beach House," a smaller beachfront inn a couple of blocks North, last spring. We had full access and shuttle service to and from the big Don. My wife really enjoyed the spa there and we had one of the best meals of my life in their signature restaurant.

Not sure about the Kingfish.

For those interested, there are also great stays at the TradeWinds resorts and a couple of hotels on Sand Key near Clearwater. All are within 30 minutes of Ray-Jay.

Edit: Oh, I forgot about the new Channelside district in Tampa. It was only there for about a year before I moved away, but they were building all kinds of new restaurants and nightspots, and there is a nice, new hotel right there, too (name slips me).
