Hated waking up this morning to the reality that the Vols choked at home and lost a VERY winnable game. Some of the younger folks that haven't been a fan as long don't know about the days back in the 70's and 80's when UT just getting to a bowl game was a big deal. Fulmer took UT up to the next level, but the Vols couldn't stay up there long enough to suit many fans that now can never be satisfied with just a good season.
Something that UCLA and UT have in common is a proud program with lots of wins, that now has an 800 pound gorilla on the block. They have USC and we have the Gators.
I'm as disappointed as anyone, and wish that Kiffin had not run his mouth about Meyer and the Gators in December. But it's water under the bridge, no real fans that know anything thought we could do much more than go to G'ville and slow them down a bit.
Win in Gainesville? C'mon. Vols aren't "back" yet to a point when its reasonable to expect to upset the #1 and defending Natl Champs. If you drunk that Orange kool-aid and bought into premature expectations, that is your own fault.
This doesn't mean we can't see the Vols have a winning season, which at this point will be a sign of progress. But one off-season with a new coaching staff wasn't going to resolve all the problems from last year with the same players.
I feel so badly for Crompton. You know he wanted to win, and some of our classless fans were actually booing him AT HOME. Nice. REAL fans with class NEVER boo your own team.
