interesting....but if you take into effect where Hammy said "several weeks" to announce a hire...and Gruden having his team playoff bound...i just don't know about it.

If the Vols become bowl eligible, maybe the new coach will get the extra practice time? Its not unheard of for a new coach to start his first game in a bowl. Cutcliffe at Ole Miss and Kelly at Cincinnati are 2 examples.

I'm starting to get weird vibes about Hammy. He should be commended for his job with the Pearl hire. However, there's something, that I have yet to put my finger on, that is making me feel a little uneasy with him, and it really isn't even relevent to the Fulmer situation. Just a gut feeling.

Weeks could mean December time frame which could be any of the active college coaches.

+1 on that. That's why they aren't waiting until end of season. And, unless the new coach is already pegged by Hammy, this gives UT a leg up on the top tier available coaches.

Well to be blunt it's because Mike looks like a weasel. But he did learn under Dickey...and Doug was as cutthroat as they come. Mike knows that his next hire also means his butt is on the line as well. And Vol fans ain't gonna wait 3-4 years to let things develope...we want wins now. Hammy knows he has to get this right...as much as he can control it.

Anyone notice the article where the President hung Mike out to dry...stating that it was a tough decision for Mike. Trust me, the President was probably more behind this than Mike...but Hammy will take the fall if the hire fails.

I listened to the whole interview and nowhere did it say that anything was in the works with Gruden. It states that Gruden is a viable candidate.

I stand corrected. At the end he did say tat he heard they had a deal with gruden. Il still take that with a grain salt.
