Weidmer Has Questions About Big Orange Caravan....

:eek:lol: except none of it was true. check the links on the previous page.

the caravan is happening, and even in MW's article, it never once actually confirms it wasn't happening.

just a reaction to the IDEA that it MIGHT not happen.

:good!:

Yes, I understand it wasn't true; but the absence of any official communication allowed for all of the speculation and the ability for the article to be as negative as it was. My post was pointing out how terrible the administration is at getting out ahead of things and cutting off any room for speculation.

really?

Just don't expect those connections to begin at this year's Big Orange Caravan, since — according to longtime Tennessee beat reporter John Brice — there isn't likely to be a Caravan this spring for the first time in 27 years.

Wrote Brice — for the past two seasons a sideline reporter for the Vols Network during football games and a 15-year veteran covering UT athletics — on his new website: "University of Tennessee athletics has no plans to conduct arguably its most fan-friendly series of events this spring for the first time in decades. People familiar with operations in Memphis, Nashville and the Tri-Cities confirmed today that UT has not secured any dates and indicated it is unsure if it will even have a caravan this year."

If Brice is right, that start, at least regarding the next Big Orange Caravan, might be this time next year. But barring a late reversal regarding the Caravan,

no where does it say they spoke to anyone at UT. and the people they did speak to just said no one had gotten any dates secured. their "not sure it's going to get scheduled" is reported on w/out any context as to the question asked, and that comment could have been easily confirmed...especially since the same day this article comes out, UT announced the plans to, in fact, have the BOC. there's not even a blurb in there saying "we reached out to UT to confirm, but they had no comment".

as for being able to get out ahead of things...what are they supposed to do? it's a non story until this was put out. it's not like the folks that host these events got together and called MW to say "hey, guess what we just found out"......

they literally made it up just to get mouth breathers to grab their pitch forks.

and believe me, i've been as critical of the UT admin as anyone. but this isn't anything but a guy trying to get a reaction. nothing more.

So make an official announcement about an event that has yet to be fully planned during an extended transition to a new administration. It's easy to complain in hindsight but I don't really fault the new administration for not addressing this prior to it being planned. He's 17 days in when the story dropped.

for no apparent reason. what us UT supposed to do, have a press conf every day to let everyone know what's NOT going on right now???

and i agree with the overall point of UT admin not being PR saavy enough in regards to the AD an chancellor search and hire process. total debacle.

but this is just...well...dumb. and it panders to the people that aren't going to find out for themselves what the heck is really going on.

and good for MW and Bice for knowing their demographic.

Currie addressed this in his recent letter. One of the first orders of business that he noted upon taking the job was that the Caravan hadn't been scheduled. This was most likely due to Hart not planning an event that wasn't going to be on his watch as well as the Associate AD, Gilbert also departing before Hart's replacement was hired. Brice was already struggling and now he's discredited and struggling. Don't even know what to call Wiedmer's weak effort. When you get ahead of yourself in a desperate frenzy to prove failure in someone else, you succeed with the wrong target. :)

And people laughed when Homer Simpson invented his "Everything's Ok Alarm", that screeched every three seconds if everything was Ok.

Apparently this damn fanbase needs one.

When are you going to understand "the administration" isn't interested in you. If you will start with that understanding, life gets a lot less dramatic.
