  • "Auburn also offered Chris Weatherd on Tuesday as Gus Malzahn stopped by Trinity Valley Community College. Auburn isn't the only school continuing to recruit Weatherd as Texas A&M plans to see him at some point and may have someone at his bowl game on Saturday. Also USC tried to get into the picture before Ed Orgeron resigned and don't be surprised if Orgeron makes a run at Weatherd wherever he pops up at next. Weatherd told Volquest.com he doesn't plan on taking any more visits and that he is solid and continues to believe in Butch Jones and his staff. Interestingly enough, Jones called Weatherd just to check on him tonight and Weatherd informed him of the offer while informing him he had nothing to worry about. While several staffs from several schools will plan to be at Weatherd's game on Saturday, Tennessee defensive coordinator John Jancek is expected on hand to take in the big game for Weatherd.   • “Florida is a nice place, but I picture myself as a Vol right now,” said Johnson, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 19 inside linebacker in the 2014 class by 247Sports. “I mean, I absolutely love everything about it. As of right now, I’ve got to say I love Tennessee. It’s hard to beat that atmosphere in Neyland Stadium and everything. “I don’t think much can compare to that.” said he talked with Vols linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen on Sunday and assured him that he remains firmly committed to Tennessee. “I told him I was just taking (the trip to Florida) as a visit,” Johnson said. “I don’t think he has to be worried. He was just checking on me and asking me what I’m doing, how my (Thanksgiving) went.” “I didn’t talk to the coaches (at Florida). One of my coaches got in contact with one of the coaches he knows on the staff and told them that he would bring me down there for a game, and they gave him some tickets — those recruiting game passes — so I got a chance just to pretty much watch the game. “I think the coaches told him that they’re probably going to take a look at my stuff a little bit, but I didn’t really get a chance to talk to the coaches, so it was nothing serious.” “If one of those bigger schools would talk to me, I would probably take a look at it just to see something different. But I mean, I really like Tennessee, and I feel like I’m pretty much sold,” said Johnson, who’s planning to enroll at Tennessee in January. “I’m ready for next year.”

  • "Wednesday was a huge day for Tennessee as the Vols were the talk of the recruiting world nabbing 5-star, instate wide receiver Josh Malone. A lot of work went into securing Malone's commitment since Butch Jones took over as head coach almost a year ago and that included all the way up until the last few days. Clemson had the lead coming out of his visit and Malone even told some close to him he didn't think anything could change his mind but the Vols continue to chop away and after Malone met with Jones and Tommy Thigpen last Friday Tennessee took the lead for good. After Jones and Thigpen left the house that afternoon Malone and his family created a pros and cons list and Tennessee had the most pros for him. Monday there was more confidence from Malone that Tennessee was the spot and Tuesday night the family convened one last time to make sure everything was good and Tennessee was the choice on Wednesday." - Fortenberry
  • From Butch after hearing about the AU offer for Weatherd "He just told me, 'You're blowing up, but you're not leaving me, right?'" Weatherd explained. "And I told him no." "Most definitely still good," Weatherd said. "Honestly, whenever I look at Tennessee it's just that I feel comfortable whenever I'm there and that I don't have anything to worry about. I feel like I'll be taken care of better than any other place. I really don't think there's anything at all," Weatherd said. "I don't think there's anything a school can do to change my mind." "I keep in touch with a lot of people like Vic (Wharton), Rashaan (Gaulden), (Dimarya) Mixon, who I didn't know was in Texas until a couple of weeks ago," Weatherd said. "We're just establishing a relationship before we even get to play with each other and that's great deal."   • "Earlier in the week John Jancek spent Monday in Jacksonville, Fla., and saw linebacker commitment Jakob Johnson. Johnson was at the Florida-FSU game in Gainesville last weekend while the Gators were blown out Johnson was still impressed with the program. Now, Florida hasn't offered and it doesn't look like fellow Sunshine State heavyweight FSU has room to offer the German native, but the Florida situation does bear watching. Johnson only has two possible remaining official visit weekends remaining before he returns to Germany and if the Gators were to offer and push for Johnson Tennessee could be in a dog fight. Right now, it doesn't look as thought the Gators will offer, but as we all know in recruiting things tend to change rather quickly at times. Also remember that Johnson is not a lifelong Florida resident and didn't grow up a fan of any school." - VQ

"Knowing I got one more game till I'm at UT, I've just been trying to grind real hard with my teammates. We're very focused coming into this game. Knowing there's only one game left, we have to go hard. We're going to make this game a very good game. "It's been a big focus to me knowing that at the next school I'll be playing in a five technique and getting to the QB is a big task," Lambert said. "(Tennessee's coaches') message to me is to make sure things are handled at GMC first so you can take care of business up here at UT." "My grandmother is very proud of me and she always tells me before I step on the field, pray first," said Lambert, who will have several family members in Mississippi for the NJCAA title bout. Having seen his future school, Tennessee, add another big-time talent this week with the commitment of five-star wideout Josh Malone, Lambert said it's exciting to see the class the Vols are assembling. Then Tennessee's staff swooped in with its 12-vehicle caravan complete with police escort, followed by Malone's now-infamous trip to Kansas City.   • "Henderson has been trying to be an early enrollee. It's still not for sure a done deal as he finishes up some academic work. Jones has publicly said 14 except at the qb club where he said 14-16. The key is the number number of guys who are out of eligibility who were on their list of scholarship players last August. That's where the 14 has come from. A guy leaving in the middle of the season such as Vincent Dallas doesn't help you with this number. It's going to be interesting to see who the mid-term enrollees end up being." - VQ

  • "Running backs coach Robert Gillespie was in Florida Monday checking on several prospects including D.J. Law. Law continues to be a serious grade concern and as we get closer to the end to the fall semester his grade situation should become much clear in the near future as some are beginning to wonder how realistic it is that Law will qualify." - Hubbs
  • "Later this week look for Gillespie to visit with 4-star running back Darrel Williams in Louisiana as the Vols continue to try and find a third running back to go in this class along with Jalen Hurd and Treyvon Paulk. Williams could end up officially visiting as early as this weekend, but with Williams holding an LSU offer and the Tigers receiving Williams last official visit in late January it's hard to imagine LSU not getting the talented athlete that's in their own backyard." - Hubbs
  • "So where does Tennessee go from there at running back? One name that caused some head turning in the General's Quarters on Monday evening was North Carolina 4-star running back Derrell Scott. Scott was once thought of as a South Carolina lock but we've been told Tennessee is making a big push for Scott and are very much alive and in the race for the talented ball carrier. With that being said, South Carolina has long been the team to beat and it still seems like that's the situation as of right now. Our source who was there said Gillespie drove home the fact about Darrell being their top priority at RB and dad was on board. We will see what happens when he visits and how/if LSU counters."
  • Darrel Williams decommits from ASU
  • Rivals on Darrel Williams, "His next visit is going to be Tennessee," Coach Galmore said. "I won't know for sure until tonight because if the family can free up some things they are going to take it tomorrow. If not it will be on (January) 24th." Due to family reasons, he will not be able to take an official visit December 13. There is also a possibility that he takes an official visit to Florida. Williams does not plan to make a decision until he takes his final official visit.
  • Jason Howell of Rivals says we shouldnt be worried about LSU getting Darrel Williams
  • "Jason Howell, our analyst for the Louisiana area that's been on top if the Darrel Williams recruitment, just called to let me know the family just told him they won't be able to make it to Knoxville this weekend and they will take their official visit the weekend of Jan. 24." - Fortenberry

When i went up there it was just different. I felt a good vibe there and coach (butch) jones. I really think highly of coach jones.   • "Zach Azzanni was in South Florida and met with Brandon Powell as Tennessee continues to really push for the Miami commitment who was once committed to Tennessee. It's still considered a long shot for the Vols but Powell has been listening to what the Vols have to say and is at least making the trip back to Knoxville." - Fortenberry
  • "Just talked to Brandon Powell as he's heading home from his visit. He's still committed to Miami and when asked where everything was he said that, 'everything is crazy right now, but I'm still committed to Miami.' He said the visit went well and he liked getting to hang out with the other visitors and coaches. He still has his Miami visit this next weekend. This ha just my perception from talking to him, sounded like he had a good time and likes Tennessee, but would be hard to see him not ending up at Miami." - Fortenberry
  • "In the beginning it was to just experience traveling and all of that but now it's all coming down to the end and everybody is showing you how much they want you and how much they need you. They hit you up on Twitter and Facebook and they call my dad all the time," Powell said. "That shows you that a school really wants you. That's why I wanted to get to Tennessee because even though I decommitted they have still been contacting my dad so that shows they want me a lot so I had to come up and visit." "I was actually cool with coach Gillespie when he was at West Virginia because he was recruiting me over there so now seeing him here it's the same thing with just some different players," Powell explained. "He was showing me how they would use me in the Tennessee offense." "That's basically what they were saying the whole time, that they have one running back coming back plus Jalen Hurd, who's coming in," Powell offered. "He was just saying they need a game-changer on offense so that's why they're still recruiting me." "Right now, I'm committed to Miami and I'm just trying to get through this next weekend and after this week we'll know." "Just the week is important, with the coaches coming by and they let you know they care about you. That's what's important to me and it shows the school cares about you," Powell said. "They understood that it's coming down to the end, that I have a tough decision to make. I didn't have to tell them much, they already knew what was going on with me," Powell said. - VQ

  • "Finally, as we wrote about in last night's thread, Thigpen visited with Jarran Reed and his family and that visit seems to have gone well. But, the team that a lot of schools are really watching with Reed right now seems to be Alabama as Reed really likes the Crimson Tide and the Tide have turned up their recruiting on the junior college defensive tackle recently." - Hubbs

If you've been reading these nightly updates this week you knew that Alabama was a bigger player than some were giving them credit and while the timing was surprising the vibe around Reed the last 42 or so hours was very much in favor of Alabama. Now, don't look for the Vols to quit there as it wouldn't be a surprise to see Jones and his staff try and get one more visit with Reed." - Fortenberry
  • "Jones spent most of his day in Kansas with commitment Owen Williams as well as South Carolina commitment Abu Lamin. Tennessee continues to pursue Lamin but chances are slim the South Carolina commitment ends up a Vol due to the distance factor from his native Fayetteville, N.C. Time was why POA commented about us not reading it. I made my comment 6 minutes after he posted the original. His presumption was I didn't have enough time to read the post. I just finished a paper on linear programming this evening. POA's update are welcome (and fun) reading. :)
