One more thing, for the last couple of weeks, Jones has
made reference to the fact that Tennessee's roster will grow by 14 in
January with 14 mid-term enrollees. In fact, Jones spoke Saturday
night about how much the competition from newcomers will help the
program.

The reason the number is 14 is because that's based on the
number of scholarship seniors leaving the program. Tennessee will not
be able to backcount but 5 of those 14, but in order to have room for
the 14 they must be 14 under the 85 number in January when the spring
semester begins. We don't know what the final 14 list will look like. Of course one of those 14 would be Malone if he were to pick the Vols over Clemson on Wednesday. - Fortenberry

Current Commit News:
  • Coleman Thomas signs his Financial Aid papers.
  • Derek Barnett broke his hand in the 1st quarter of the Ensworth game. Got 2 pins in his hand.
  • Dewayne Hendrix senior highlights: Dewayne Hendrix - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl
  • Daniel Helm: "It was a really great atmosphere. I really enjoyed it," Helm said of his first Tennessee game experience from this past Saturday. "It was difficult to see the outcome but it was fun." "It was awesome. I'm glad I got to experience before I got there," Helm said. "Coach Jones said the next day one of the positives was while the team isn't doing so great right now there's still close to 100,000 people in the stands so that's awesome." "One of the reasons I picked Tennessee was because of how much of an emphasis they put on the tight end in that offense and they've made it clear the tight end is very important," Helm said. "I'm mostly excited about football. I'm excited to start college, but really excited about getting this class in and helping that turnaround that I think we can do in the next two years. I just want to be apart of that championship building team coach (Butch) Jones is putting together." -VQ
  • How confident is the staff that Hurd's future is at RB? "I think they are very confident in it. He's never been thought of by Tennessee at a different position. And he's going to get every chance he wants and can handle in spring and in August heading into the season." - Hubbs
  • VQ confirms that Gaulden ended the season with 207 tackles
  • Andrew Butcher Junior highlights: JUNIOR SEASON HIGHLIGHTS 2013
  • Gavin Bryant Senior highlights: Gavin Bryant - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl
  • Oregon offers Lavon Pearson, but he continues to be a Vol and is expected to sign Dec. 18th
  • Dominique Booth decommits. “i was supposed to start school early and that was the deal since last january and i just found out a few weeks ago i can’t go early to tennessee,” booth said. Booth notified tennessee head coach butch jones of his plans. “tennessee still wants me to sign in february,” booth recapped."
  • Lambert visited Auburn for the Iron Bowl. Says he was just visiting with his friend who is committed there, but is all Vol. "Yea, there's concern. Auburn has never backed off or stopped recruiting him. Tennessee has stayed on top of things with him and are recruiting him as hard as they can." "He told Austin tonight that he's solid to the Vols. I think Tennessee is fine there. Jones hasn't been in his home yet." - Hubbs
  • "Butch Jones got his travels started off Sunday afternoon with a trip to see junior college offensive line commitment Dontavious Blair." - Fortenberry
  • "John Jancek will be down in Florida on Monday visiting with both Dillon Bates and Jakob Johnson. There was some worry about Johnson as he took an unofficial visit to Florida on Saturday but the Tennessee linebacker commitment left immediately after the game and there doesn't seem to be anything to worry about now. But, Johnson still has two weekends to take official visits and if one of the bigger instate schools were to offer that could throw a wrench in things. Don't be surprised if he does take a few more visits before the dead period and then heads back to Germany, but it seems like it would take a new team offering to drastically change things." - Fortenberry
  • "Thigpen will be with DaVonte Lambert on Wednesday as Tennessee tries to tie up everything with their coveted junior college defensive end commitment. Lambert visited Auburn Saturday for the Tiger's big game against Alabama with fellow Georgia Military College defensive lineman and Auburn commitment Devaroe Lawrence. Lambert was just back in Knoxville with his family last weekend and he told Austin Price Sunday night that he was still a solid commitment to Tennessee. But, don't expect Auburn to just go away either as the Tigers are hot not only on the field but on the recruiting trail right now. Butch Jones will see Lambert next week just days before the junior college signing period opens." - Fortenberry

RB Recruiting:
  • Vols set to in home visit Derrell Scott on Thursday
  • Darrel Williams possibly taking an OV to UT the first weekend of December

WR Recruiting:
  • "Receiver Josh Malone (Gallatin, Tenn,/Station Camp) was the last big official visitor, although it does not look as if Clemson will pull the No. 48 prospect. Malone has already signed a financial-aid agreement with the in-state Volunteers, and those on campus Saturday get the feel Malone will eventually sign a letter of intent with Tennessee, too." - ESPN
  • Jamil Kamara tweets that UT is in contact with him again
  • Fortenberry on Jamil Kamara, "I don't think anything will come of the Kamara stuff. He's about to make his decision between four schools pretty soon and they don't include Tennessee. I think they are just setting themselves up in case they don't get Malone. I think it's the smart thing to do as no one knows what Josh is going to do, yet. It's why they keep recruiting guys like Eric Lauderdale."
  • "Tennessee is still recruiting Lauderdale and I think if Tennessee were to really press it would be the Gators and Vols. He's visiting Florida this weekend and is planning on visiting Tennessee in January. If the Vols get Malone I'm not sure how hard they go after Lauderdale." - Fortenberry
  • Josh Malone no longer considering FSU or OSU
  • Cory Fravel of Clemson247 said that everything he is hearing is saying UT is the favorite for Malone
  • Malone went to the Broncos/KC game with former Vol Mikki Allen. Poster on VQ said they are cousins. That would make Malone a legacy.
  • "I’ll probably take a few more official visits,” Lauderdale said. “I’ll probably take one to Tennessee, one to Arizona State and one to Washington, but I don’t have any of those set up. I was going to enroll in January but the SEC isn’t taking one of my classes so I’m going to enroll in May now.” GB 247

Oline Recruiting:
  • JUCO OT Avery Gennesy commits to TAMU

ATH Recruiting:
  • Dareian Watkins - "Watkins has had conversations with Vanderbilt and Tennessee in recent weeks, and both schools have piqued a degree of interest in the four-star athlete; but trips to those schools would happen only if he emerges from Madison this weekend uncommitted, and the prospect of that happening appears slim."
  • Brandon Powell is set to visit the first weekend in December

LB Recruiting:
  • Clifton Garrett will anounce on December 16th (His birthday) at his school

DL Recruiting:
  • "Everything this weekend was good. I had a good time and enjoyed Rocky top, the fans were good. I enjoyed myself," Heurtelou said. "I didn't know how the environment would be and I was just shocked to see how it is during the game," Heurtelou said. "The fans, the tradition they have here stood out to me a lot." "We talked about their need for the position I played. That's what we mainly talked about and what I could do if I come in and how I could help the team," Heurtelou explained. "I could see that knowing they are losing three people at my position. I hear where they are coming from." Heurtelou has backed off a final two of Tennessee and Missouri and said Miami is back in the mix, after being out of it since a summer official visit, and added Rutgers, which is very close to his home state of New York, will receive an official visit as well the weekend of Dec. 14, just days before the junior college signing period begins. "I'm unsure right now. Every thing is still up in the air right now," Heurtelou said. "I'm just going to let time play its part and see what happens over the next couple of weeks and reevaluate things and go from there." - VQ
  • Charles Mosley is announcing on Friday "Charles Mosley told Volquest.com Sunday night that he will for sure announce a decision Friday. The Vols continue to be the leader here and while Mississippi State and Ole Miss are trying to see 'Big Charles' during the week, the Vols are scheduled to see the Brighton two-way lineman on Friday, which again, is the day he plans to announce." - Fortenberry
  • "Tommy Thigpen was in North Carolina to visit with Jarran Reed's family as the Vols continue to battle there for the junior college defensive lineman and that battle doesn't look like it's going to end any time soon.Look for Jones to see Reed next week leading into the junior college signing period." - Fortenberry

DB Recruiting:
  • "Tennessee is very much in it. They are battling with the other schools in Adoree's top group. LSU is thought to be one of the leaders, but USC is going to be interesting as well. He's not deciding until signing day so there's a long ways to go in this one." -Fortenberry
  • "Also, if you read Adam Gorney's recruiting note, then you know about Tennessee going out to see some 2015 quarterbacks in California next week. Offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian will be out in California and will see several 2015 quarterbacks out there, including Kearns. Also, he'll see Lavon Pearson and Eric Lauderdale. Bajakian will likely see Adoree' Jackson and give an offensive presentation to the five-star talent." - Fortenberry

2015 Recruiting:
  • Fortenberry on GA QB Lorenzo Nunez, "He threw for the coaches this summer and they offered and he and his family have been to a game or two this season. I think he likes Tennessee along with several other teams like Auburn early on."
  • FL RB T.J. Simmons: "I got to go to the game and I really enjoyed it. I got to talk to Jalen Hurd and me and him are good friends and I really enjoyed the visit," Simmons said. "One of the main things that stood out was the atmosphere," Simmons explained. "I've been to games at Florida and Florida State and their atmospheres are good but when I went up to Tennessee the fans and the atmosphere and the facilities really got to me and they really welcomed me up there as family. It was a great time, I had a great time up there." On Butch: "From what I've been hearing he's a great man and I like what he stands for and he's building a great program there at Tennessee and there's something I can see myself being a part of," Simmons offered. "They have great facilities at Tennessee and they have great players and great coaches that want to see you get somewhere in life." -VQ
  • "I just talked to 2015 QB Kyle Kearns from Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill and he said Tennessee is supposed to come out next week to check him out. The Vols have been one of the many programs who have continued to recruit him this season although no offers have come in yet. I've seen Kearns many times during the 7on7 circuit and he's a very talented quarterback. It's only a matter of time until some major teams get involved in his recruitment." - Adam Gorney, Rivals
  • Fortenberry on TN OT Drew Richmond, "He likes Tennessee a good deal. Ole Miss and Alabama are in their, too. But Tennessee is off to a good start."
  • TN OT Drew Richmond said he also got to spend a few minutes with head coach Butch Jones. "I talked to coach Jones, too. They were really busy but I know they wanted me there bad," Richmond said. While Tennessee won't be going to a bowl for the third straight season Richmond says he sees the program is heading in the right direction. "What fans don't realize because they're fans is that, like coach Jones said only a couple of guys have decommitted from their class before the season, but like coach Jones said, they aren't going to win right away and it is going to take some time," Richmond offered. -VQ
  • TN DE Kyle Phillips said his grandad wont let him go anywhere but Tennessee

2016 Recruiting:
  • GA QB Josh White: "I loved it. It was a great place," he said. "It was really beautiful. I got to drive around and that's the first campus I got to do that at. I really liked it a lot." "[Bajakian] came over to my table and said they want to get me to camp so they can see me throw," White said. "Since I don't have much film they want to know what I can do so they can make a move." "They told me they're really interested because by the time I graduate their quarterbacks will be older," he said. "They're look at a lot of quarterbacks in my class and I'm in that group." "My favorite thing about them is that they have athletic wide receivers coming in, that's a good selling point," he said. "As far as the game, I'm not looking at it as a negative, I'm basing it off my gut feeling and I had a positive feeling after I left there." -Woody Wommack

Other Notes:
  • "The staff says they have a plan. They haven't shared that plan with me. So I can't lay it out there. This blueshirt thing is something they have been looking at for a good while apparently." - VQ
  • Which recruits are eligible for blue shirting? "Technically, right now it's anyone that hasn't taken an official visit." - Fortenberry
  • "If I can find a way to sign 35 guys, I am going to sign them" -Butch Jones

So does the 14 ee's accepted change if a junior decides to declare for the draft? Would this not free up more scholarships? Or is that something that doesn't go into effect until later in the semester?

I assume this means the junior would leave the school or be taken off scholarship for it to take affect. Any input?

Two hundred and seven freakin' tackles? :superman:

With all those tackles he will probably be due for a downgrade in his rating since he is a Vol commit. lol.

A TN guy with speed that can tackle well in the secondary. Now that is somebody Team 118 can use.

Once again - thanks, POA. Much appreciated.
