Visitors for the Vandy game thread: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tenn...53-visitors-ut-vs-vanderbilt-high-school.html

"Tennessee can only sign 30, although they are probably going to try and grayshirt a guy or two. Beyond that, I'm not sure how all of this is going to work. We're all waiting to see how Jones handles this. The 30 is a fixed number for this year, they could only have 50 on scholarship but couldn't sign 35 because they are still bound to the 25 per year rule. The way they are able to sign 30 is they are backcounting five from last year's class and will have at least five early enrollees." - Fortenberry

Who other than Malone and Adoree, will the staff hold a spot for no matter what? "I think for Jarran Reed and Owen Williams, a running back, probably Pettway, Clifton Garrett. I think there are several they'd have a hard time turning away. Jakob Johnson." - Fortenberry

Current Commit Stats (Previous Week 11/8):

• Dimarya Mixon per 247, “No more visits,” Mixon said. “Two more months before school starts, so I’m done with recruiting. I bought a lot of gear, too — Tennessee gear — so I’m done.”
• Aaron Medley was invited to the Under Armour Game

• Preston Williams highlights Aka "The Show"

QB Recruiting:
• Tennessee has offered Grace Christian QB Devin Smith "preferred walk on" status

OLine Recruiting:
• JC Shurburtt predicts David Sharpe to UT
• "There has not a more fluid recruitment over the last few months than Sharpe's. Clemson had him on campus early in September and there was some chatter. Then it was Georgia who had Sharpe on campus twice early in the season. From there, FSU and Sharpe seemed to be linked and that fizzled quickly. We are now back to Florida, the school that looked to be the clear favorite six months ago. UF has picked up momentum now and it is less than a week after Sharpe visited Tennessee officially. FSU is a school to keep an eye on too. According to the father, a decision is likely before the end of November." - Chad Simmons, Scout
• Coach Mahoney heads to FL. One of his visit supposed to be David Sharpe
• Alex Bookser set to visit to Vandy game
• David Sharpe announcing Thursday Nov 21st.

WR Recruiting:
• Josh Malone eliminates OSU and Bama
• Josh Malone highlights: Joshua Malone - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl
• "Florida State impressed the Malone family during their official visit a couple of weeks ago and Malone was back in Knoxville Saturday. There is pressure on Malone to choose the Vols and Scout gives UT the edge three weeks out from decision day December 4.*Georgia*is*Tennessee's biggest competitor right now, but*Clemson*and FSU are both still in this. Malone has an official visit to Clemson scheduled later this month. Ohio State had him on campus for an official, but the Buckeyes are on the outside looking in." - Chad Simmons, scout
• "After a very successful official visit to Florida State for the Miami game, there was a little bit of panic with Tennessee fans regarding Josh Malone. At least some of that was alleviated on Saturday when Malone returned to Knoxville for the game against Auburn instead of heading to Alabama for their game against LSU. Tennessee still has to get through one more official visit to Clemson, but I still say the Vols get him in the end. Confidence is still high in Knoxville and up here in Connecticut in my office if that means anything to anyone." - Mike Ferrell
• Josh Malone has signed his financial aid agreement to UT. He is expected to also sign them with FSU and UGA. He will still visit Clemson and announce on December 4th
• Johnnie Dixon set to OV to Vandy game. "Dixon is interesting as he's someone who hasn't talked a lot about the Vols recently but with he's someone likely looking to leave the state of Florida. Alabama and Ohio State are thought to be the leaders right now and Tennessee would be his last official visit." - VQ
• "zach azzanni, the vols’ wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, also is scheduled to be in south florida to see top247 senior wide receiver johnnie dixon and three-star senior wide receiver clint stephens of dwyer high school in palm beach gardens, fla., who both hold offers from tennessee." - 247

RB Recruiting:
• On Darrel Williams - "Right now, Tennessee has the feeling of a leader, but it will be interesting to see if LSU comes back and offers at running back at some point. If LSU does, it could change everything. All of that said, he is still an Arizona State commitment and the Sun Devils staff is not about to go away without putting up a fight." - Jason Howell of Rivals
• "Talking with James on Tuesday night, he says Pittsburgh is still tied at the top with Wisconsin and he wants to visit the Panthers once more before deciding because he has been there just once. The weekend of Nov. 29 was discussed as a possible official visit date, and that would coincide with the Panthers' final home game. Tennessee is still in the mix and his planned Nov. 23 official visit could still be taken, but James' focus is on the Badgers and Panthers." - Josh Helmholdt, Rivals
• Chris James commits to Pitt
• "Derrell Scott could commit in December, but he is not sure at this time. South Carolina and Tennessee lead, but North Carolina State has made a push. His final official visit is this weekend to South Carolina." - Chad Simmons, scout

DB Recruiting:
• Adoree Jackson said he saw that UT could use him early on either side of the ball. Says he could be a difference maker and step in right away and help. The coaches talked to him about getting him the ball on offense and also locking down one side on defense. Coaches told him he could step in right away, and that they need speed. Says UT is on the right track and are going to get it done. Says he can see the team has faith in CBJ. The atmosphere of the stadium and the players stood out to him. Says he and all of the DBs hung out at Byron Moore's house. Says one of the best things was how comfortable he felt with the players. Got a feel for the campus. "It leaves (Tennessee) up there at the top with all the other schools," Jackson said per VQ
• Fortenberry says LSU leads for Adoree Jackson

LB Recruiting:
• Nyles Morgan is deciding between UT and TAMU for his 5th OV.
• Fortenberry on Petera Wilson, "He doesn't have a committable Tennessee offer. I saw him this summer and I think speed and open field quickness is an issue. You wonder with guys like him if he was a defensive end if he would have been recruited differently. I think his ranking will fall pretty far this next go around."
• Jakob Johnson set to OV to Vandy game. "Tennessee is in good shape with Johnson right now and surprisingly the only two official visits he has set up besides Tennessee is Tulane and Central Florida, although a Wisconsin official visit is possible as well." - VQ
• A poster on VQ (who is a ND fan) claims to have spoken with Garrett, and gets the feeling that UT could be his new leader.

DLine Recruiting:
• Cory Thomas tweets that he committed to Tennessee. Shortly after he deletes the tweet and we find out that he is announcing later that night. Commits to the Vols. Said he committed a week prior
• Video of Cory Thomas committing to Tennessee before his official announcement
• Jarran Reed (per Scout), "I do not have anything planned. I will not take anymore visits until after our game. We have practice every day from here through December 8th. It is all about trying to get that ring for our school. I am going to kind of shut it down until after the championship game. I still hear from a lot of schools outside of the three I have visited. Minnesota, Nebraska, Alabama, and MSU still call. I just do not know yet. I graduate in December so it is around the corner, but I am trying to concentrate on winning a national championship. I do want to get it right this time though. There are no more second chances this time around."
• Edgar Cerenord on UT offer (per Scout), “I’m not going to lie it’s been awhile. I’ve been calling them, I haven’t gotten a call back, no messages. Whenever they give me a call, I’ll see what they have to say,” he said.
• "Four-star defensive tackle Charles Mosley*out of Brighton, Tenn. has been flirting with committing for some time now. It appears Tennessee has the edge, but Alabama is still right there." - Chad Simmons, Scout
• "Also, it was an interesting weekend and early week for Abu Lamin. He left Knoxville raving about Tennessee and indicating he will have to do a lot of thinking on whether or not to remain committed to South Carolina and then about 16 hours later he's telling everyone he's solid to South Carolina. While he continues to maintain he's solid to the Gamecocks Lamin has continued to talk to the Vols and even though Tennessee will have a hard time to beat out South Carolina Lamin and his family are still listening." - VQ
• JUCO DT Owen Williams will visit for Vandy game. "Williams, a South Georgia native who is currently committed to Texas Tech, has been in touch with the Vols for some time now and with a good weekend the Vols could very well be in the thick of it." - VQ
• "Tennessee is battling to stay at the top for Jarran Reed as Reed recently took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss and now the Rebels have a little bit of momentum coming out of the visit. Certainly, the one looks far from over." - VQ

2015 Recruiting:
• Kyle Phillips per 247 - “this was my second time (going) to a ut game. My first time i liked it a lot, and i just wanted to go back just to see if i was going to feel the same way, which i did[.] i liked it a lot. The coaches, the environment, everything was nice up there, so i was glad i went back.” “the thing that stood out to me, really, was everybody has a first impression,” he said. “everybody gets all hyped up from the first time going there. And i felt like i felt the same way about it (as i did the first time), so that was the part that got me excited about it. They were struggling — you know, auburn’s a good team — but (i liked) just the feel, the fan base, the coaching staff.” “they’re a school i’m high on right now,” he said. “just pretty much the coaches, how it’s all family-oriented, that catches my attention, (and) the fan base — things like that.”
• SC DE Michael Barnett per Scout, “I like Tennessee right now and they are moving up on my list after seeing what they have to offer,” he said. “Right now my top two are Virginia Tech and Florida State, but I love the environment here (in Knoxville) and the family vibe.”
• UT first to offer LA DL Joe Anderson
• Coach Bajakian heads to MO to see QB Drew Lock
• "Also, Stripling will likely see Saginaw athlete Brian Cole, who is very high on Tennessee as well after visiting for the South Carolina game last month." - VQ
• Coach Elder visits SC CB Kaleb Chalmers
• "stripling also will travel to memphis, tenn., to watch four-star junior linebacker joshua mcmillon and his whitehaven high school team play host to memphis’ white station high school on friday night in a class 6a second-round playoff game." - 247
• Coach Elder to visit VA DT Tim Settle
• Other Notes:
• Rivals will update their rankings the week of December 2nd
• "Steve Stripling will head up north to Michigan to see several 2015 Vol prospects that have already visited Knoxville. Stripling will be at Cass Tech in Detroit to see defensive lineman Joshua Alabi. and running back Mike Weber and Tennessee is in great shape with both of those prospects." - VQ
• Vols offer TX CB Josh Butler
• "Willie Martinez will be in Pulaski to see Cameron Ordway who is close to getting an offer from the Vols as he continues to look like one of the better players in the state for the class of 2015." - VQ
• Coach Jancek to visit GA DT Trenton Thompson
• Vols offer FL ATH James Allen

2016 Recruiting:
• Coach Elder to visit SC RB Tavien Feaster.
• Stripling to visit TN DE Emmitt Gooden
• Vols offer NC QB Austin Kendall

Good stuff. Really appreciate it. :good!:

I don't think even the most optimistic UT fan expected Butch and this staff to be doing what their doing on the trail led by Butch himself and Thig. Also, great to see this staff already working so hard and doing so well on the 15 class. With the guys already committed for 15, and all the other guys we're in good shape with, I think it's pretty safe to say this current 14 class is not a fluke and 15 will likely be a highly rated class as well.

We're actually not finishing second very much anymore on key recruits like past few years. That's what makes me the most excited about our overall recruiting right. We're not just in the discussion with big-time prospects that are considering bama, fsu, ohio st, ect we're now straight up winning quite a few of those recruiting battles against the big boys for big-time players they really wanted. I especially love seeing the recruits we're beating saban and bama for. They know we're coming up and it's not gonna be good for their current dynasty once Butch gets all his bricks.

Thanks, again, POA.

WHy do I read this post every week!?

It's like looking through the Toys'R'Us magazine more than a month before Christmas. I catch myself thinking, "I want him on the team, and him, and him too, ah, u can never have enough lineman, we could aways use another QB by 2015, and he looks promising..."

In my head, I've got us taking 50 this year, and saying FU to the NCAA... sanctions be damned.

Good post, thanks for all of the digging you do every week.
