Current Commit News:
- "Dews was originally recruited by the Volunteers to play outside linebacker, but has since been told he will likely play receiver in the Southeastern Conference." - Gazette.net
- In response to the article about Dews playing WR... "I think if he's at Tennessee he's on defense." - Fortenberry
- Jerome Dews bumped up to an 85 3* on 247
- JUCO WR Lavon Pearson commits to UT
- Lavon Pearson gets ranked on Rivals as a 5.9 4*
RB Recruiting:
- Derrell Scott said his visit was better than expected. Liked the atmosphere and how hard the team played. Scott said that UT, USCe, tOSU, and NC State are the schools still in the race. He wouldn't say SC was his leader, but he acknowledged that they've been there the longest recruiting him. He spoke to Kendal Vickers while on his visit, who spoke highly of UT. He does not know when he will decide.
- Chris James sets aa OV for November 23rd.
WR Recruiting:
- JUCO Lavon Pearson says UT is recruiting him the hardest. His UT visit will be his first visit to a D1 school. Is a December grad and wants to make a decision early. "I'm not the type of guy that will have people waiting. I'll probably make that decision pretty soon."
- "If his family signs off on everything it wouldn't shock me if he did something during or soon after his visit. He really likes Tennessee." - Fortenberry on Lavon Pearson
- WuTang does a nice job summarizing a Scout article on Josh Malone - Does not have a leader, tough decision but one he will be ready to make. It is not just a 4 year decision, but a life decision. "It is really a business decision for me. I want to go to a school where I can play early, where I can build up a resume for the NFL, where I am very comfortable, and where I can feed off the school's alumni to help my future. Wants the right people around him to prepare him for life, not just football. Loved his visit to Neyland. Had never heard the fand that loud. Enjoyed getting to know the coaches better and had fun hanging out with Dobbs. Likes the coaching staff at UGA and the offense they run. Likes coach Ball at UGA. Likes FSU's pass happy offense and like the college town atmosphere. Anticipating his visit there. Has a good relationship with Deshaun Watson at Clemson. Will consider UF, Ohio St, and Louisville for final official. His decision will be a difficult one. Will be relieved when decision is made, but does not want to second guess himself. Isn't sure what school he will attend but will know by Dec. 4 Scout.com: A business decision Wide open.
- "Word came out this week that Rivals100 wide receiver Josh Malone has scheduled an official visit to Ohio State for the Penn State game next week, coming as a shock to many. Early in the process the Buckeyes were among Malone's favorites, but the two sides lost touch and recently he has zeroed his focus in on Tennessee and Georgia. Clemson and Florida State will also get official visits, and now the Buckeyes will get his fifth one rather than Florida, who had previously emerged as the final school on his list. There's no doubt that the Buckeyes have a lot of ground to make up, but getting Malone and his family on campus is a good place to start. Pay close attention to what Malone says after to trip to see if OSU truly has a chance to land one of the hottest prospects still on the market." - Rivals
- JUCO Lavon Pearson commits to UT
OLine Recruiting:
- JUCO Avery Gennesy sees that we are losing a lot of linemen and likes the idea of early playing time. Wants to visit soon.
- Fortenberry on OL Recruiting...are we done or would they take Gennesy or another HS OL? "They would take Gennesy. I think they want Bookser to visit."
- "Three-star offensive lineman Alex Bookser skipped his scheduled trip to Penn State last weekend, which has to be a good sign for Pittsburgh. The Panthers have a lot of things going for them when it comes to Bookser. Some other contenders for Bookser are Ohio State, Tennessee, Virginia and Michigan State." - Rivals
- Fortenberry on Avery Gennesy - "He's legitimately interested in the Vols. Looks like Tennessee and Texas A&M are the two teams he likes the most right now."
- UT will get one of David Sharpe's OVs. "Tennessee has been trying to get in with Sharpe the last few months. He has a few ties to Tennessee and while it's been uncertain and may change, right now he is likely to take one down the road. He also wants to play basketball in college and I think Tennessee said he could do both." - Fortenberry
- Avery Genessy loved his visit and liked seeing the competitiveness. Said hes going to try to bring his mom in for a visit. Loved that they are focused on academics. Likes the idea that we are losing a lot of linemen and he can come in and play. Vols are in his top 3
DL Recruiting:
- Awesome thread that has the stats for all of our JUCO DLine recruits - http://www.volnation.com/forum/tenn...205686-current-stats-our-juco-dl-targets.html
- Dewayne Hendrix retweeted this: @Kortney_Dunbar1: We might be conference enemies in high school, but we are family now. I am so happy you chose Tennessee! Vols for life! @hendrix_dewayne
- Fortenberry said this regarding the Hendrix retweet: "He has not committed. Just a friend that is going to UT tweeting at him and wanting him to go to Tennessee. Just talked to him." "Well, for what it's worth, the Vols are going to be tough to beat here. Nothing is done, obviously, but he really likes Tennessee."
- Fortenberry on a timetable for Hendrix's decision - "He continues to say next month or early December, whenever he's finished taking a few visits. I do wonder if that changes at all with the Barnett commitment and defensive line spots becoming fewer and fewer."
- Rote breaks down a Scout article on JUCO DT Lance McDowell - McDowdell has that feeling for Tennessee. Enough so that he says hes close to committing to the Volunteers. Im real close, McDowdell said.Theyre in my heart right now, know what Im saying? I can feel them in my gut. It just feels right. (Tennessee is) in a good spot right now. I mean, they show me love, man. For me, its all about just knowing what feels right. I need to feel that school, you know? The Nassau (N.Y.) Community College standout may be high on the Vols, but that doesnt mean hes not weighing other options. McDowdell lists Tennessee as his leader with Alabama, Miami and USC not far behind. McDowdell wont commit until after his season ends and after he has completed all his visits. McDowdell plans to trip to Knoxville to watch the Vols host Vanderbilt on Nov. 23. He also will visit Tuscaloosa on Nov. 9 to soak in the Alabama-LSU game.
- JUCO DT Jarran Reed scheduled to OV to UT 11/23 per Rivals. Says hes ready to see the atmosphere and stadium. Said hes going to work his tail off to earn a spot.
- Cortez McDowell on Andrew Williams (per 247) - I was working hard on him (during the visit), because we were kind of up there together. We all drove up the same day, McDowell said. I was working on him pretty much all day. Im trying. Its, like, 50-50 with me and him. I think Im getting to him a lot more now, and Tennessees got a shot with him.
- "I think Reed and Lamin are the top two options. Reed is playing really, really well this season. Lamin is a take because he's a three-year guy. Pettway is a really good. I think Ole Miss is the leader there right now. I think McDowdell may be behind a couple of guys right now. I think Heurtelou would be ahead of him as well." - Fortenberry
- Some speculation that Mosley is being told to wait that he might not be a take right now is that true? "He's a take." Is Mosley worth saving a spot for if a JUCO DT wants his spot? "I think so. He's a four-year player compared to just a two-year guy. They need to not only be more talented on the D-line, but get younger as well." - Fortenberry
- Abu Lamin said his UT visit will be his first college game hes ever been to. Says Lambert is recruiting him hard. Said it would be cool to start something new and build up Tennessee.
- Is JUCO DJ Pettway a take? "In terms of talent, he's certainly a take. I think it would be hard for the Vols to pass him up if he wanted in and everything checks out this weekend." - Fortenberry
- Andrew Williams listed his top five, in no particular order, to be: Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Clemson and Notre Dame. Tennessee, home of former Jonesboro High standout Cameron Sutton, and future home of Locust Grove safety Cortez McDowell, is hot on Williams trail as well.
- "Jarran Reed said the Vols lead coming out of his visit. Was really impressed by the atmosphere in Knoxville." - Fortenberry
- "Avery Gennesy said it's Tennessee, Ole Miss and Texas A&M in his top three and he hopes to get back to Knoxville with his mother on an unofficial visit later in the year. He will be at Ohio State next week." - Fortenberry
- "There's no way they turn down either Jarran Reed and Abu Lamin if they both want in. After those two at defensive tackle I think Calvin Heurtelou is probably next in line and Lance McDowdell seems to be sliding down the board some. I still think there could possibly be more names pop up along the defensive line as it looks like Tennessee wants two junior college defensive linemen if they can get them and I don't think they are in a position to turn any good ones away. The numbers always seem to work themselves out (I know that gets old, but that's the truth), but you can't afford to turn down quality defensive linemen, especially when you're losing six of your top eight or so. I still believe D.J. Pettway is a long shot and how the high school defensive lineman situation shapes up will be interesting. But, it's still October and in my opinion still too early to worry about numbers. Get the best players on board, especially early enrollee junior college players on the defensive line, and then go from there." - Fortenberry
- Dante Sawyer was "very impressed" and enjoyed his trip. Thought the atmosphere was "crazy." This was a big time statement win for (Tennessee) coach (Butch) Jones and the program, said Sawyer, ranked the No. 27 defensive end in the nation. "This might set a standard of how I feel about coming to Tennessee. About to start taking his officials. Loved our fan base and the love we showed. Talked with Strip and Coach G after the game. Says all of are coaches are "really fun to be around" and will keep talking to UT. - WuTang breaking down a Scout article
- Regarding Lance McDowdell - "I don't think he's progressed how some thought he would. He may be a take down the line, but Tennessee has others in front of him right now." - Fortenberry.... "I'm not sure how many teams on his list would take him. I think his stock is falling in the eyes of alot of teams who offered early." - Hubbs
DB Recruiting:
- What positions will the Berry twins play? "Evan is a DB. Elliott? I don't think anyone knows for sure right now. Could be a linebacker, cut be in the offensive backfield. Could be an h-back. Only time will tell." - Hubbs
2015 Recruiting:
- Ron Swanson summarizes a Rivals article on Natrez Patrick - Said he's getting mail from a lot of schools. Which schools, "all of them". Specifically mentioned USC, UT, UGA and Vandy. Just said USC offered recently and started recruiting him harder, Vandy hasn't really spoken to him just sends lots of mail. He said Stripling came to his game recently, he really likes how well UT competed vs UGA, "one of the biggest stadiums in the country", likes the fans and said we're recruiting him to play DE/OLB. Said UGA has a lot of injuries but they're still doing well. He didn't say much but I guess the positive for Vol fans is that he said the most about UT
- TN WR Van Jefferson said OSU, UT and Vandy are probably his top schools right now. Some TN Titans came to his practice, including WR Justin Hunter. Hunter was recruiting him to UT and let his coach know it was a good place for him.
- Vols offer NC WR Michael Bowman (teammate of Derrell Scott)
- Vols offer NC OL Ryan Matson. He had the Vols in his top 3 before an offer.
- FL OL Jake Fruhmorgen - i like florida, vanderbilt, tennessee, michigan, notre dame, clemson, alabama and lsu, fruhmorgen said. im most familiar with vanderbilt, florida, tennessee and alabama. Tennessee - i like them a lot. I have a friend committed there (ray raulerson). They have a nice facility and area. They have some awesome coaches. I would fit in their offense. - 247
- Hubbs on Rico McGraw - "In my opinion Thigpen will have the Vols in that one till the end."
- Vols offer FL WR Calvin Ridley
- UCLA and Tennessee are two leaders for 2015 VA ATH Jaason Lewis early.
- Eric Swinney loved the atmosphere of the game. Said he liked how much UT ran the ball during the game. Loves Knoxville and the coaching staff. "I don't really have a top group or anything, I 'm still open to everybody but Tennessee is pretty much at the top of my recruiting list. They are up there," Swinney said. " They run the ball a lot and that's what I want to do. And the coaching staff, they're trying to build a winning team and start some great things." - VQ
2016 Recruiting:
- FL WR Dionte Mullins said UT and Auburn are his top schools early on. Says Tennessee is his favorite. Likes the UT offense, campus and facilities. Wants to visit for a game.
