Showdown Saturday got a big Letdown last weekend.

no more undefeated matchups in Dallas and Baton Rouge. TV execs hate that.

but we love it. those games are still big, but there's no doubt that the game of the week...maybe year...is in the red stick Saturday night.

now, i picked FL in this week's volnation pick 'em. but that's only to assure a loss for the gators. i'm so far down the list in the standings, i figured LSU could use all the hlep they could get. so, LSU, you're welcome. GEAUX Tigers. For purely selfish reasons only.

Of course, how much i care about that game depends greatly on the 1st matchup on the CBS double header.

the TN GA game has been discussed a lot this week, for good reason. I'll simply say this.....GA doesn't "Do" anything that just scares the daylights out of me. yes, the rushing numbers last week at Ole Miss were impressive. but when i compare UGA's offensive weapon's to some teams we've already faced, i almost sigh in releif.

That said, Moreno and Brown will give us fits, and our secondary better be ready to shut down an pedestrian passing attack by GA. Offensively, i think we do match up pretty well. I'm sure GA thinks the same thing.

we've had a week off, and i'm sure everyone has been reminded of CMR's 3-0 record in Neyland. I expect an inspired performance from the Vols this weekend. so i picked GA in the volnation pick 'em.....you ask why? see my pick of FL above.

SC/KY.....this may be the most intriguing game of the weekend. KY is the only undefeated team in the SECE and SC is also tied for the lead, with a win over division rival GA.

the winner of this game is actually in the cat bird's seat. however, that won't last long as both teams have tough stretches left.

bottom line.....and it's been discussed a lot already.....the SEC E is wide open. and it will now be very entertainning to watch it all unfold.

Go Vols....

The scenario I would like to see develop is for UF to struggle out a win with key players for both sides so physically (or mentally) impaired as to be ineffective for the rest of the season. The resulting carnage would leave everyone in the conference with at least two losses by the end of the season and Tennesse playing Ole Miss for the SECC.

Of course, the linchpin of my little fantasy is for the Vols to win this Saturday.

History has a way of repeating itself. Richt 3-0 at neyland.

Fulmer's fate will finally be sealed this weekend. After Richt extends his record to a perfect 4-0 at Sanford-Neyland on Saturday night, the Volunteer masses will be bellowing for his resignation. Chances of an SEC Championship and a ten win season will be insurmountably crushed. Let the countdown begin.

very possible...and very depressing. I'm going to go with a Vols win though because I'm obviously delirious.

I think you are underestimating the quality of the wins UT already has. Southern Miss has managed to come back to within two scores of perennial powerhouse Rice, after getting drilled the entire game.

Maybe you haven't been watching the games
Even paid for one and watched the Florida game with a friend who's girlfriend is a staunch Gator fan. You got some kind of a problem with me rooting for Tennessee and not being delirious?

im glad to get out of that argument...it seems that one of those pops up at least three times a day. Honestly though I think the Vols will win, and not because I'm delirious, but because I think our team is just as talented as Georgia's.

I agree with you about the talent. I'm just hoping the two weeks the coaching staff had to get them ready to win has been used wisely. Not to mention a whole bunch of tackling practice... :shades:

Im not delirious..... Im optimisstic. I am looking for our boys to get it together and show everyone we still have a bit of spirit left.
As a realist I say its going to be tough and a low scoring game.
As a pessimist i think we in deep pooh.

...... Hang on a sec I gotta smack my other two personalities.

:banghead2::vava:

ok thats better they agree with me now.

TN - 28 puppies - 24

i left the coaching implications out on purpose. i think everyone has a good read on what the perception is regarding that issue.

and let's face it...the only decent team GA has played so far, they lost to. they beat the crap out of an Ole Miss team that got drilled by Vandy. they beat an Ok. St. team that got beat by Troy. They beat a Bama team in OT that got beat by a bad FSU team. the only thing separating GA from TN right now is TN has played two teams already infinitely better than anyone GA has played.

If you ask me, GA and TN both still have plenty of questions, and are in basically the same spot. both see this as just as big an opportunity as the other.

this may in fact be the most meanigful GA/TN game played in quite some time, if for no other reason than the winner remains breathing in the SEC E race, the lose is effectively out barring a TON of weird stuff happening.

I'm really torn. I would like to see LSU win Saturday, but still think Florida is likely to get ot the SECCG. I hate that. I think with two losses, they will get their reward of winning the east and getting the SECCG "with all freshemn". We will hear that a 100 times to justify mediocrity) Of course, I am swayed to pull for LSU this weekend, but my instincts tell me they can't beat Florida twice...that means UF could win the SECCG and go to a BCS game....that sux. So, in my confused state, I am no going to pull for Florida to win Saturday, and hope SC or someone else could knock them out of the SECCG and thus listen to the Gator's and urban cryer whine about having to go to the Cotton Bowl in January to play Kansas State.

some more games to consider this weekend.....
PUrdue/OSU......conventional wisdome says OSU will beat Purdue, but for some reason, i just think the boilermakers get it done with that offense. i don't think OSU has seen an offense like this yet, purdue is ave. 50 pts a game......don't think they get that, but i expect a bit of shoot out in that one......

Ill/Wisc.....many think ILL gets this one. i don't know that i'm one of them. but honestly, i wont' be surprised either way. Penn ST now needs a win over Iowa, who let's face it, isn't all that great. I'll take Ill in an upset and PSU to beat IA......and what's funny about the big 10...if Purdue beats OSU and ILL beats Wisc......guess who's in first place in the Big 10? Michigan. Go Figure.

the big 12 tilts this weekend......starting with OU/TX......TX was due to lose at some point. i'm more inclined to think OU's loss last week was more of an abberation than TX's loss. i still think OU is the class of the big 12 and will beat TX handily.

KSU/KS.....actually a pretty meaningful game this weekend for these two. the winner remains a solid contender in the North, i like KSU i think in this one. KU is undefeated, but hasn't played ANYONE. KSU is already battle tested having gone to TX and Aub.

Neb/MO.....everyone has pointed to this game as the game that will decide the North and Neb's struggles with the Tigers are noted. I think the Big Red right the ship a bit this week and stake their claim in the NOrth as well.

Ok ST and A&M. I think a lot of people will root for Ok St this week...one i think the masses loved what Gundy did in that presser, despite the criticism he received from some of the prognosticators. throw in the public opinion of Fran in the wake of the "VIP Connection", and many people are going to hope Fran gets his just deserts. and i'm one of them. Go Pokes.

in the ACC there's only one game that really hold my attention and that's Clemson/VT......Tommy Bowden needs a win big time. the sharks are already circling talking up the "collapse" that seems to happen every year. well if the GT game last week was any indication, that collapse has started. the game is at Clemson and i have a feeling that the home crowd may balk at any sign of poor play/coaching. Clemson just shouldn't be that bad offensively with the RB tandem they have. Outside ARK, many believe that those two in Davis and Spiller are the best combo in the nation. the pressure is all on Tommy this weekend, and i don't like the Tigers in that spot. i look for VT to go down to Death Valley and get a W.

UNC/Miami.....Butch Davis gets his old team.....now, other than some coaches still on staff, there's virtually no recognizeable part of this Miami team that Butch coached that rolls in to Chapel Hill this weekend. that said, they're still better than the Heels and i expect CRS and the canes to get a W. they wont' struggle as they did last week against Duke. I like Miami big in this one, they got their wake up call last week.

In the Big East...keep an eye on the Cinn/Rutgers game...Cinn could make some noise this weekend.....

in the Pac 10, nothing really stands out this weekend.....UCLA/ND is the game that i guess stands out.....but i just don't know that anyone really cares about that right now. UCLA wins and ND goes to 0-6. for all those keeping score....that's a guy that has a $10,000,000 contract to coach the "most esteemed" college football program in the land to an 0-6 record.

Folks, i could do that for a lot less.

South Carolina draws Kentucky at what I think will be it's(UK's) peak performance level of the entire season. The hype this week for what the Cat's have been doing has been pretty amazing. Some dude on espn even said he had Woodson #1 on his Heisman list. Every indication is that UK is this season's Arky. In fact, only Arky is a quality win for them.

I think tonight is early halloween, and Carolina is going to pull the mask off Kentucky to reveal... a merely average version of the media's darlings...

whoa....hold it a minute......you want FL to lose, trust me.

2 sec losses is 2 sec losses no matter what. they lose, we win, we control our destiny again, sort of. and that's what you want.

Assuming LSU does beat FL, if you are going to play the odds it works like this.....TN beats GA, giving GA two SEC E losses, meaning that they then have to win out, hope TN loses 2 more SEC games. they also have to hope that KY loses 3 SEC games and that SC loses 2 more SEC games.

that's a lot that's out of your control if you're GA. whereas for us, we win Saturady. FL loses Saturday, we're immediately ahead of FL in the standings. SC and KY play tonight, the winner will be in the SEC E lead......

BUT SC and KY both have to play TN and FL. KY still also has GA and LSU.

bottom line, FL winning this weekend would be a bad thing for us, even if we win....we'd come out of this weekend, even with a W over GA in 3rd place in the EAST. FL loses, and we win, we come out likely in 2nd place with the team in front of us still on our schedule.
