Has anyone noticed the hotel rates in the Tri-cities area for the 9/8 - 9/12 time frame? Prices are outrageous. We stay with the Comfort/Quality/Sleep Inn/Suites group and the cheapest is $187 and goes as high as $300! Hmmm? If you don't have friends or family to stay with it's going to be expensive!

Yeah it's crazy! We booked a hotel in Knoxville to avoid the gouging. Will be a bit of a drive after the game but hopefully we can get to Knoxville in time to watch some of the after party

Welcome to my world. I always have to make that trip in reverse after home games. Long ride after late games.

Might be some ETSU kids renting their apartment out for the weekend on Craigslist or something. I remember students doing it for Bristol races and making some extra $$

Smart move would have been to book a room a year in advance to get a guaranteed rate. Too Late for that now. At this point, I would not book a room in the Tri-Cities. If you are coming in from the west through Tennessee, check places like Morristown, Greeneville, and there might be a few motels around Gray. Or you might even drive farther, and stay in Jefferson City or even off the exit to Sevierville near Smokey's stadium. Point is to look at other options. They will be out there. If you know anyone that is a NASCAR fan, they might know a place, because I have no doubt they pull this crap on race weeks too.

Guarantee the VT, or as you say VPI fans are considering options north of Bristol. I have no idea what is up there.

I would just assume they are all full and be safe renting a room in Knoxville since there's no game day cancellation fee and you're assured a room, even though it's a far drive.

We really wanted to go to the game. But trying to get back to our place in Gatlinburg would be tough. Tons of traffic, drivers with too much to drink. Not a good prospect. I'll just enjoy the game with a grilling and craft beer fest. Gotta make sure the growler is clean and ready to go!!!!

Edit: Please don't say Tennessean. Those lying, backstabbers make me sick.

Same sort of thing in College Station when Vols play Texas A&M October 8! Rates more than tripled. :dunno:

Tough is driving from Memphis, like I will be doing. You have a place in G-Burg and can't make the short trip? Cmon, we need as many big orange faithful as possible. Especially those that have a place as close as you.

When you wrote, "Welcome to my world" (and I see you live in Bristol), I can only assume that you're willing to put my family and me up for the weekend during the big game. Do you mind if I bring some VN friends?

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot.... Thank you! :hi:

He's probably going to invite just as many of your crew to stay over as you've had of his crew visit in Knoxville, over the years. :)

Make your wife happy and go to Abingdon and stay at the Martha Washington Inn. Will be expensive, but, she will never complain about you going to a game again.

You're right, but don't like driving so late. It's a little more dangerous for us older folks!!!!

Just speaking from the experience of living in Bristol. It will take close to two hours to get to the interstate from BMS afterwards. Maybe I can convince the wife to rent out our house. It's like 5 miles from the track. Volnation would of course get first dibs.

Every year at race time businesses in Bristol jack prices for
everything. Food, gas, motel rooms, etc.
They stick it to the fans.
Looks like it will be the same for the TN / VT game.
From my view point, borrowing or renting a small camper
would be the best way to go, especially if you wanted to
stay a couple of days and party.
Three or four guys pitching in on a camper rental would
keep prices down.
There are lots of campgrounds in the area.
If you consider this rout, make sure someone in the
group has, or can get hold of a good tow vehicle.
