Week 2 Upset Alert article

I could be proven completely wrong but I really don't expect the game to be all that close. I think we'll beat Pitt rather easily. I think Pitt is a good team but they aren't great and I think they are overranked. I see us winning like 42-21.

The only way I see us losing is, well obviously if I'm completely wrong and they're way better than I thought, but primarily if we shoot ourselves in the foot. If we are off on offense and making silly mistakes then yeah we could lose. I don't mean to discredit Pitt but I honestly think it's a scenario where if we lose it's likely because we beat ourselves more than Pitt beat us.

I'm with you. Before the season, I didn't think this was going to be that scary of a game. I've seen nothing yet to change my mind.

UT's defense is swiss cheese based on what? Last season? Holding Ball St. to 10 points with mostly backups/walkons playing in the 2nd half? Stupid article is stupid.
He is just stating what most of us on VN fear. That the defense is suspect until they start stopping the opponent on 3rd down.

Vols win. Only a delusional nut job would expect any different. The Vols at our worst still beat Pitt at their best. I expect their best. It will be a fun game to watch.

I think the only thing he was looking at is the Line upset. It is a sneaky pick and a sucker's pick for a reason. He was not saying that Pitt would win but that they would more than likely keep it under 6.5 points. We are averaging over 45+ our last 4 games. Don't think Pitt can keep up. I think we get our 45+ points

As a Vol fan, I have seen many games where less talented, smaller, slower teams have given us a close game or a loss. I don't recall any superstars on any of those teams. I have seen those teams play very well as a unit, though.

Appy state, Georgia State, BYU (exception of a superstar QB), Purdue, etc.

Agree , a bend but don’t break defense and a high powered Offense will win you a lot of games . I get it , the more super stars you have on the defensive side the more you can just obliterate another team ( Georgia / Oregon ) but you can get away with a lot , with just good solid SEC talent and technique.

Literally have never heard that before. If it has always been said, I've asleep for the 40 years of casual fandom.
I am tired of our no-name defenses. Byron Young is star material, but that's about it so far.
I would love one of our men to have a breakout game Saturday. We need several players to rise up.

I don't believe that article even said we would lose, it said they could pick an upset over the betting lines aka we might not cover the spread. I personally disagree with that, as I think we'll win by 10-14. I could be wrong but that's how I interpreted it.

Go man, gallop! And remember the world was made in six days. Ask anything of me, but time.
-- Napoleon Buonaparte

We've been looking forward to our return to championship football for many years now. Several false starts in there. We think this time, we got a winner. A man, a coach, who will take us back to the top of the mountain, to stay there a while.

And we keep talking about that return as a thing, distant, on the horizon, something to be patient for. But what if it's not?

What if this is the year that our program takes fire? What if it isn't on the horizon, but right here in front of us? As close as tomorrow in Pittsburgh, and two weeks from now when the Gators come visiting?

Really hoping it's time. For the Tennessee Volunteers.

Go Vols!

LOL... I will be less surprised by a 30 pt Vol win than by a Vol loss. Heupel has shown great ability to put his best players in favorable match ups on O. UT is A LOT better than WVU on O... and WVU's performance against Pitt did not look like a fluke.
And if you saw the game, the winning score was on a pic the qb put right on target to the wide receiver who bobbled it up in the air. I felt bad for the qb. Our wide receivers should be aware of that guy and know how good his hands are and how fast he is. I trust Heupel to adjust as Pitt changes. Tn by 1 score.

This is gonna be a snoozer for the rest of the country by halftime. Vols up by 21 at half, win by 30. Youngsters get some playing time on the road against a P5. Good game for our development.

Again, many VN fans think anyone that posts something that disagrees with them makes them an idiot.

The article makes good sense to knowledgeable fans. What makes the guy a bad journalist?

Nobody knows who's gonna win this game.
Most poster are more like you. If they are "realists" then they don't know football.
That article has crap that is waaay closer to bull than correct
But you keep hoping for close games/losses bc apparently its easier to do than shift and be positive

This game can go either way but I expect the Vols to come out on top.

Red Flags: 5 college football teams on upset alert in Week 2

By the numbers UT as a road favorite with a single digit spread has a 70% chance at victory (straight up not ATS). PITT also has a new OC which also does not bode well for them since it takes time for a new system to take shape. PITT vs Tenn last year was Pitt -3.5 with Pitt coming off a victory against UMass very much the same as Tenn coming off victory against Ball St. I do see Tenn winning but against the spread I would lean SLIGHTLY toward Pitt and the 6. Full disclosure I am a PITT fan but I do like Tenn and have seen them 3 times (Vs UCLA, Battle of Bristol against VA Tech, and last year against PITT.) The Battle of Bristol was an unbelievable College Football experience. Tenn vs PITT last year may have been one of my top 5 non sober times in my life and I have had my share. Hope all you Vol fans making the trip to the Burgh enjoy yourselves and I'm sure your will....Also I see Mike Campbell (Tom Petty's guitarist) is playing in Knoxville Oct 12. Saw him in Pittsburgh last weekend and it was FANTASTIC.

Call it BVS or whatever you want - if we're up by 21 at halftime I'd still be nervous based on our history. Seldom do we go for the throat in marquee games.

I see why people would pick us on upset alert but I think we'll win. Can't be too mad about it. Pitt's a good team; I just think we're better.

What I don't get is why anyone would pick SCar over Arkansas in Fayetteville. Feel like people are hyping up Shane Beamer as the next big thing just because SCar beat a not-so-great Auburn team and a Florida Gator team that seemed to have given up last season. Give Beamer credit for showing some improvement down the stretch, but I don't think this SCar team is on the same level as Arkansas.

And I don't know what to think about App State after a 63-61 loss to UNC. Guess that A&M game could be interesting if App State's offense is really that good, but maybe UNC's defense was just that bad.

I think there is a reason Vegas favored UT from the start. To encourage action on Pitt. Like last night, Buffalo was the favorite over the Home standing Super Bowl Champ---LA. How'd that go? A 21 point Buffalo beatdown........; Every Average Joe was on The "Champs".
