Makes sense for the most part, except Texas A&M should be higher than #24, and should absolutely be ranked over a disappointing LSU team. Iowa almost always seems overrated, as well. And then for some reason, App State has fewer votes this week than they did pre-season, even though they nearly beat a top 10 team.

Otherwise, I'm fine with it. I like that we fell to #14, so maybe the hype train will finally slow down. Let Georgia take over the conductor's seat on the Early Season SEC East Hype Express!

This team needed a reality check, luckily they got it without suffering a loss.

I'm fine with them falling out of the top 10. They don't deserve to be back in the top 10 unless they beat Florida. Earn it on the fiend instead of off the field this time.

The rankings I pay attention to is Tennessee's SEC division rank and overall rank at the end of the year. No wonder there was so much shake-up in the rankings this week since the pundits had no more clue of how to rank the teams than any of the rest of us since no one had played. After one game, we have one point on a graph. We needs two points to start a line and more points to establish a trend. Let's see where everything is when the playoff committee issues its first rankings.

That's excellent. :hi: But, I'm afraid it will go about 5 levels over the heads of all those hand-wringers who believe the entire season and maybe the next decade were foreordained Thursday night.

Looks like 2 of the top 3 SEC teams are in the east. The dominant division. Aren't early polls great?

Exactly. There's plenty of opportunity on the schedule for them to earn their place.

So if Tennessee beats the dog snot out of VT where do they go? polls are more and more like the stock market these days. two big of swings with many teams for me.

I'm shocked at that much of a tumble after winning. Many of the teams that jumped us played worse teams and struggled as well.

But whatever.... Take care of business and the rankings will work themselves out.

Meh. The best 1st weekend of college football in history is the recipe for having a very fluid week 2 poll. You can't have all the ranked vs ranked matchups without movement. Zero ranked vs ranked opponents this coming week when UT/VT will be the premier game. This is a better week not to lay an egg.

I figured we'd drop a few spots. I'm surprised we dropped that far in the AP poll honestly.

App State was about #45 prior to the game. I bet they've moved up.

I'm glad that TN is out of the top 10. They need to earn it on the field, not on paper.

There are probably only two teams ahead of us in the rankings that should remotely have a chance of losing.

Week two is a really weak schedule for most playing. VT vs UT is actually one of the bigger games of the weekend. I don't think we could win big enough to move us up more than a couple of spots.

Probably one of the three best games with possibly Louisville/Syracuse and Arkansas/TCU being the only two other decent(?) games.

From a personal point of view though...I'm looking forward to the MTSU/Vandy game. Has nothing to do with polls, but I think will be a good game with MTSU having a better than average chance of winning.

We are 17 in the AP, slap in the face of a very good Appy State team?

It's funny because only cetain UT fans actually think Appy St is a worthy opponent. Nobody and i mean nobody called this a game to watch out for. Vegas certainly didnt see it coming. Not even Herbstriet said they were tough when he talked about the game. It was all about how bad UT looked.

Even though I agree 100% with the new rankings, it was a pretty strong indictment of the shape of the program to bust a team so hard after a win. Most media types are treating it as a loss because, well, we pretty much lost except for a miracle recovery by Hurd.

Really think we need to get rid of pre-season polls anyway. It gives the top teams an inherent advantage every year. No rankings till week 4 or so.

I predicted that we would fall to #13. Wasn't far off but we're gonna get the shaft anyhow when it comes to these polls.

Honestly.....FSU, Texas and UH are the only teams with wins over quality opponents.....that is, if ND is as good as hyped.

UA was very, very impressive...but I have doubts USC is as good as advertised as well.

Our VOLS played a poor game....actually the worse effort I've seen in CBJ era. If App St turns out to be this year's Houston....folks will revisit this win.
