Week 1 QB ratings(SEC)

I thought he did better than the stats. Yes there were some high and errant throws. The one I keep going back to was the end zone throw to Velus Jones. If Jones would have run that to the back pylon that's a TD, for some reason he stop and tried to jump to it. It was an NFL QB throw just not an nfl receiver out there. Growing pains, we should look better next week.

My issue is a lot of poor throws is worse than some bad decisions. I watch half the ole miss game. I liked their guy at this point better than jg. Neither guy is winning anything.
Gotcha. That’s different than what you said before. Both can kill you for sure. I will give JG credit on some things. He made the right reads way more often than last year, ran at times when it made sense, and he wasn’t late on his throws like he was so often last year. He didn’t step into some which resulted in poor accuracy, he still throws too hard pretty often, and he still needs to figure out how to pass in the red zone. That last one might be partly on the coaches for the plays being called but the red zone is where QBs that aren’t accurate really struggle. When I say accuracy I’m not just talking about completing a pass. I’m also talking about putting the ball where it’s supposed to be so the WR can continue running, not have to turn around, etc.

Ok, well a poor throw is a bad play so is a poor decision. Its a wash.

Hell no it’s not

ever heard of the ole coaching strategy of let’s end every possession with a kick?

JGs play allowed us to do that and that’s why we won the game. If he made one single bad decision last night it could have easily made us lose the game

a bad throw is very different than a bad decision.

I thought SC played a pretty tough game. More than I thought it would be. And JG did enough to keep it close. HT gave UT the boost and the punter made the kick of the game at the end.

In what world did Wilson outperform Bennet?
In one half of play, 20/29 211 2/0
In a full game, 24/37 240 1/1

Costello also broke an SEC record playing LSU. Imo that’s more impressive than feasting on Ole Miss.
I think YPC factors a lot into QB ratings.

I think JG was fired up and he was throwing high. But if you think what his numbers would have been had those throws been down because he was high on about 5 throws. And to be fair, some balls hit receivers in the hands ( maybe not perfectly, but I'm old enough to remember when that used to be the golden rule) . . . So there's that as well

I don’t

I think he played a PERFECT game when it came to decision making. The call was thrown to the right person every single time and never in harms way. Sure he missed a few throws but all QBs miss throws in a game

He continues to throw high. And he continues to miss open WRs. The miss of Keyton down the sideline on the first or 2nd drive was inexcusable, but he tends to do that a lot.

JG is frustrating because he can look so good on many throws/drives, then look terrible. And his misses tend to be important ones. He’s gotta stop throwing high on those 3rd down comebacks. Those were drive-killers.

The problem was that he missed when he really needed to be on target - 3rd down

Expectations are a funny thing. They can make the good look bad and the bad look good. We went 7-5 in the regular season last year, started the season on the road in conference, we won AND covered the spread but, based on the general tone on VN, you’d think we lost. Expectations.

Probably because we scored our average behind JG with 24 offensive points, and needed a pick-6 and a muffed punt to ensure victory.

We're lucky that USCe is worse than us, because we saw little offensive improvement last night, and our defense without Shamburger and Middleton struggled to cover the middle of the field most of the night.

Costello has to be number 1 I think.

I thought he looked very calm in his first SEC start on the road against the defending national champs. Granted, it wasn't under normal circumstances for LSU but it was still impressive.

Didn't catch the later games for obvious reasons.

LOL. We do seem to score 20-24 with him every single game. I agree there’s improvement needed. The second half O was considerably better than the first half so hopefully they’ll build on that. At least JG wasn’t late on his throws, made better reads, and ran at times.

He was more poised and didn’t seem to lose confidence. I’m guessing a few throws were timing issues and a few were solely on JG.

Yeah,, timing issues and throwing issues.... The same as has been for the last,,,, forever... Throws LATE!!!! Throws OVERTHROWN!!!
After being on this squad forever he doesn't seem to ever overcome these problems. As I was suffering to the end of the first half, it seemed to me that 3 for the 4 drives that stood out to me were screwed by him with bad throws. I know I guess I am picking on him. But picking on him or not, as long as we must rely on him (I fear this thought) we are gonna be in for a long season.... Gene Ches just summed up our plight on recap show a minute age. If you have a QB you have a chance in the SEC this year.

Good to see you this morning.
Setting aside lackluster performance...J Banks penalty bothered me more than anything. What a talent he is, hope he can get emotions under control for the remainder of the season.

I was surprised at JG’s stat line at the end of the game. I think we can all agree it looked much better on paper than how he actually played.
He is ok a few missed throws no glaring mistakes something to build on only glaring mistake was decision to go for field goal on 4th and 1
