Let’s see where you guys ranked the QBs

I was surprised at JG’s stat line at the end of the game. I think we can all agree it looked much better on paper than how he actually played.

I don’t

I think he played a PERFECT game when it came to decision making. The call was thrown to the right person every single time and never in harms way. Sure he missed a few throws but all QBs miss throws in a game

He was more poised and didn’t seem to lose confidence. I’m guessing a few throws were timing issues and a few were solely on JG.

Expectations are a funny thing. They can make the good look bad and the bad look good. We went 7-5 in the regular season last year, started the season on the road in conference, we won AND covered the spread but, based on the general tone on VN, you’d think we lost. Expectations.

Yep. When we win a road game and cover the vegas Line and there is a thread entitled “put this game behind us” people need to understand that expectations are a little off around here

His stat line was decent. He needs to stop overthrowing his WRs. If UT wants to beat the better teams in this league, JG must improve big time. His inaccuracy killed too many drives. Hopefully QB play improves against mizzou.

Poor throws are different than poor decisions
Ok, well a poor throw is a bad play so is a poor decision. Its a wash. If I make a poor decision and throw into double coverage and result is an inc pass, same result. I mean Trask made many poor decisions throwing into double coverage but his guy is so good it didn't matter. 1 time he chose to throw into double cov instead of throwing it to the wr where his defender fell down.

He missed more than a few throws. Of his 12 incompletions, I can immediately think of only 2 that should have been caught. That means nearly ⅓ of his 31 attempts were errant passes. And many were generally way off target in situations where the WR was very much open. It wasn't like he was forced to fit it into a tight window all night.

I do mostly agree with the decision-making aspect, though. He made the correct decision most times. It wasn't PERFECT as you say, however. He held the ball too long on one of the two sacks he took when the opportunity to run or throw it away was there. He also fired that panicked rifle shot to no one across the middle on 3rd down in the red zone when he appeared to have Eric Gray open in the flat.

It’s also funny to me how every drive we don’t score is now considered “points we should have had”. Even LSU’s record offense from last year didn’t score on every possession. With that said, the first half offense was abysmal. We have to improve there or we will struggle with the lower half SEC teams and lose to the upper tier handily. We did see improvement in the second half so hopefully we will build from that. All I know is 1-0 with a conference road win is way better than 0-1 with a loss at home to GA State.

Do what? A bad throw isn’t automatically a bad decision. Where did you get that?

I’m not a JG basher or homer, but my opinion is he still hasn’t adjusted to making the mid-level throw and that’s his biggest problem. He puts so much on each throw that is 10-15 yards it looks like a rising fastball as soon as it leaves his hands. The long throws I few are a little easier for his guys because he puts air under them and they can adjust. On the crossing patterns and sideline out routes he really doesn’t give his receivers a chance. Seems like even after all these years the game hasn’t slowed down for him.

I felt his decision making was good and he did make the right reads on most throws.

Regarding the thread. Costello at MSU is going to have the chance to really make a name for himself with The Pirate at the helm. At least until the SEC adjusts to his pass happy offensive style.

Let’s see where you guys ranked the QBs
In what world did Wilson outperform Bennet?
In one half of play, 20/29 211 2/0
In a full game, 24/37 240 1/1

Costello also broke an SEC record playing LSU. Imo that’s more impressive than feasting on Ole Miss.
