Also a bad wreck with a cop car on Emory Road, Cop was listed as unconscious, and the fire truck heading to help him wrecked enroute.

Stay inside recruits, come visit tomorrow

Here's a fairly reliable model depiction for what could possibly be in store next weekend. Odds of this map being correct exactly as depicted are very low but safe to say it bears watching. I wouldn't mind seeing it as long as it's after all our weekend visitors have left however this map is actually for the Friday-Saturday time period after we get in the mid 60's on Tuesday. Again confidence is low this will happen exactly as depicted so not being a negaVol just giving a heads up on something to keep an eye on.

The weather should not be an issue for kids coming in from the south. However, they did get snow up north, so it could be a factor for kids coming in from up north.

The weather is a factor to everyone, hence the school being cancelled. Hell, it takes an act of congress to close UT

Does anyone know what time of the day recruits generally arrive for their official visit? TDOT has been salting the roads around the clock. Just hope this doesn't prevent some of the recruits visiting from making it in.

I doubt it makes an impact on travel. We are going over 40 in Ohio driving through lake effect snow. Doubt Knoxville see's enough to shut down the airport. Who knows though, ice can be a different animal.

Really.....does no one know how to drive in winter weather? these people are supposed to be qualified, hell i could drive in this weather in my coupe and not crash

No they can't drive in weather here. I guess for some who haven't lived in areas of bad weather it could be a challenge. I generally go on about my business.

Holy **** people down here need to learn how to drive in some weather, this is NOTHING
I guess you are better at driving on ice than others? I would agree if it was just rain, but to say people need to learn how to drive is stupid on ur part. Ice is no joke on the roads and there is often no warning when you are about to hit a patch.

Not sure anyone north is coming down but if they are hopefully their flying. I wouldn't want to be driving over Jellico mountain. It's still only 27 here but it's raining so hard the water can't freeze on the roads fast enough so it's running right off. Trees have a good coating on them. It would have been a huge mess if this would have hit a few hours earlier.

My fathers family lives in East Cleveland. Well, a few are still in EC. The mafia bombings in the 70's caused most of the family to move further East to Willoughby Hills, Euclid, etc. Bottom line, I've spent a fair amount of time in lake effect snow. That's serious stuff. You can die in that stuff. Amazingly they'll throw chains on tires and keep trucking in many cases. Atleast they used to.

Anybody that claims they can drive on ice with no problem is either a liar or a prideful buffoon. Save your "these people can't drive" comments for someplace else.

Guys, I live down in Kennesaw, GA (25 miles north of Atlanta) and I have tickets for the basketball game tomorrow against Alabama. I was gonna leave tomorrow morning around 8:30 a.m.. Do you guys think the roads will be safe by then? I think I'll be in the state of Tennessee around 9:45ish. Think I'll be alright?

I would appreciate some input. Thanks!

i guess so, since i just drove down I 75 and never felt in any way like i was going to crash or slide. normally people get in accidents because they try to brake when they hit ice, which is NOT what you do

All roads in Tennessee should be fine as it will warm above freezing late today and stay above freezing in most areas overnight. You may actually have more problems in extreme North Georgia as this rain is moving your way and cold air is spilling down the east side of the appalachians into northeast Georgia. Overnight temps in parts of North Georgia may remain below freezing so ice could be a real problem in the am.

I don't care what you say anyone driving on ice from freezing rain has absolutely no control of their vehicle whether braking or not. Obviously if you had no feeling of sliding you were not driving on ice.
