Weather Delays

It’s a perfect analogy. You buy life insurance in case you die prematurely. It’s not likely, but you buy it just in case. Lightning in a stadium isn’t likely, but you stop play just in case
Yes, but, "how likely are you to be struck by lightning and _die_ while watching Tennessee win a game???" is the real question.

There may be another delay this weekend if Florence continues its path to the Carolina's. Some predict that it may move further South and hit Florida.

The weather delay rule is getting out of hand. Two weeks in a row we have been delayed more than 1/2 of an entire game because lightening was spotted within an 8 mile radius of the stadium. Both times there was never any lightinening , much less rain, at the stadium. Just another rule that is ruining college football. I understand the danger of lightening but an 8 mile radius, really? Thoughts?

No doubt. It's drawing complaints from NCAA and Pro fandom. Lightning isn't some new phenomena. Fans and players aren't in any more danger than they ever were. What has changed is the litigious times we live in where everyone wants to sue for any misfortune they can blame on someone else. The ambulance chasers have taken over. It has forced up the cost of health insurance, home insurance, car insurance. Recall attending games in pouring rain and even a spring game with rain and lightning present. But back then, if someone had ever been the unfortunate victim of a lightning strike, nobody would have thought to sue the stadium or someone else. The times are ridiculous in those regards. I haven't heard of someone being struck by lightning at a game, but I know it's possible. It didn't stop games and force delays 20 years ago. Why now, except that people are looking for a big payout and ambulance chasers are ready to see they get it.

The only people struck have been out in the parking lot (where they're walking lightning rods on a flat surface), and even then they haven't been killed.

Fatal lightning strikes are so incredibly rare they aren't even worth worrying about.

i was at the dolphins titans game yesterday it was ridiculous
multiple delays, one with a minute left in first half....it was super odd because we saw tons of lightening and no delay then skies got clear, and we got a delay smh, made no sense

Is is a fact or just a joke that Tennessee studied plays while West Virginia ate during their break? If a player is really carbed up at the start of a game, after a couple of hours there could be a huge letdown that could effect physical and mental performance. We sure lost our edge after coming back 3rd quarter. Does the nutritionist travel with the team?
I got the info from the TV announcers. They seemed sincere at the time.
