Weakest Crop of QBs in SEC East in Awhile

I believe Trask will have the "sophomore" slump this year. There is no way he is as really good as he was last year. If he is that good, he wouldn't have been a bench warmer since his freshman year in high school.

He played behind D'Eriq King in high school and the coach's style favored a running QB. He could've started at virtually any other HS in Texas.

Give Doug Nussmeier credit for discovering him when McElwain was still coach. No other major program even recruited him.

Even back then, QBs that were considered elite would transfer to a school/state where they would start. Heck, I just read an article recently where a married couple legally separated so their son who transferred to a high school in Georgia would be eligible to play QB. You, or other coaches, wouldn't allow yourself to sit on the bench if you think you're good enough to start elsewhere. There's too much money at stake.

I'm thinking JT Daniels is better than he's being given credit for. If he's good enough to run off Jamie Newman he must be decent...

Where are people getting this from? He didn't run him off. Newman was firmly the starter before opting out.

Anybody that looks at this list and would trade with anybody other than MAYBE 4 other teams is not thinking clearly I think. In a year where veteran leadership is going to be key, I'm glad we've got a veteran QB who has won games in this league, especially the wins on the road. I'm not sure I'd trade QB rooms with any other team out there. You guys can pick Trask all you want but I think he's going to suffer a pretty good "sophomore slump".

I honestly think Newman didn't like what he saw at Georgia and decided it would be better to spare his body before going to the NFL. He was great at Wake Forest, so if he looks bad at Georgia, it's Kirby Smart and the OC's fault.

And it shouldn't be a huge surprise. That Georgia passing game was mediocre last year even with Jake Fromm.

I'm thinking the UGA offense may resemble a train wreck early on. Time will tell.

KJ Costello . Know nothing about him but he’ll lead the league in passing. The Pirate knows a thing or two about QB’s
I think they are going to have a bunch of 3 and outs. They've had huge offensive linemen for years at Miss St, gonna be tough for those guys to hold up playing the fast break style they are going to play. I don't think he'll have a good season at all.

It has to, they better hope their new OL coach has done a great job getting their entirely new OL developed for their brutal early schedule. I could see them losing as many as 4 and definitely think they finish no better than 8-2.

I agree. They struggled running the football last year and their opponents know it. Trask is going to face max coverage and exotic blitz packages all season long. Their backup is no slouch though.

Bo is probably most talented starting qb in the SEC right now. If he can make better decisions he’ll be real good.
Lol. We'll see but I think Pruitt is good enough to control ol Bo.

Honestly, the whole SEC has an unusually weak crop of QBs.

I agree; Bo Nix might end up being the best of the group. He was a bit too mistake prone last season and his accuracy wasn't spectacular, but he was a true Freshman, so he'll improve. He has all the tools to be a great QB. At the very least, he's one QB on our schedule that concerns me.
Pruitt's D is going to chew him up and spit him out. Coach probably knows every one of this kid's tendencies as he played his HS ball mostly in Al. I think he's mistake prone and likes to throw it to the opposing team a bunch.

I'm thinking JT Daniels is better than he's being given credit for. If he's good enough to run off Jamie Newman he must be decent...
Looks like he weighs about 180, not enough for a kid coming off injury. I think GA is screwed at the QB position and I doubt he ran Jamie Newman off.

Trask is going to play himself into a 2nd round draft pick. He is a better passer than anyone we’ve had in Knoxville since Casey Clausen.

Not so much a reply to your comment, but reminded me of a name from the past.
Jimmy Streater’s backup (Pat Ryan ?) at Tenn played about 12 years with the JETS in the NFL. Don’t think he ever started at TENN.

I know. Heisman winners are just so so aren’t they. Nobody in the SEC most years, would say, guess we’ll just have to go with Wuerffel

The other thing that killed me is this is the wrong fan base for that. I would challenge someone here to name an opposing player who did more damage to Tennessee than Danny Wuerffel. In Vol football history, I would bet he's got to be enemy #1 in that department.

He started the 1993, 1995, and 1996 games against Tennessee. Those Tennessee teams were a combined 30-5-1. They were 20-3-1 in SEC play. So, against everyone except Wuerffel's Gators, they were 30-2-1 and 20-0-1 in SEC play (makes the Memphis loss even more hard to fathom).

In those games, Florida averaged 46 points per game. I think he threw a total of 14 TD's and 0 Ints in those games.

Grrrr, I'm trying to come up with an argument but can't! The Goode brothers from Town Creek, Alabama put some daggers in us also.

I'm no JG apologist, but this is a weird year. Experience and comfort with the offense could be even more important than in your average season. I still have high hopes that Bailey gets snaps as early as the first couple of games and has the chance to showcase his skillset.

I think JG is easily the second best QB in the East behind Trask. Not really saying much, but yeah. Wilson is the only one that is even close, but JG outperformed him head to head in 2018, plus Wilson is coming off a very serious injury. Three East teams haven't even announced a starter, mostly because they all are in less than ideal situations. Hill is a middle of the road guy.

In the West, Mond is very good, Nix should get better. Jones was at least decent last year, and should get better. Costello has the experience I guess. Brennan and the other two to be announced are unknowns.
