There is a lot more proof, quotes in the media, that departing players poisoned the well for Martin's recruits.
Martin stated in an interview at Cal, that his final decision for leaving TN was lack of support from the administration.
Combine the measley $500,000 raise for 3 20 win seasons and a SW16 finish and Hart's balless approach to the petition, protecting his own ass by not publicly denouncing it, and who could blame the guy for leaving.
In the same interview, Martin had nothing but praise for TN fans.
Good grief, this thread got derailed. Glad our fans like to argue about the past.
ballless? He did what should be done.....ignore it.....if a coach or AD cant handle negative fans then they aren't ready for Division one sports.
Not sure that's the issue.
It's more about how the media was and is still spinning it and the perception coaches and future recruits have of the University.
Add Donnie's mess and we're being talked about as a program in complete disarray. Some of the low life's are even implying racial issues.
Martin was not a good coach. Good guy but mediocre coach--at best. If that. He proved how lame he was on our last possession of the Michigan NCAA game: We've got two excellent, shot-creating slashers, each ideal for last 12-second situations, and he decides he wants the ball thrown to our CENTER 20 feet from the basket. One of the dumbest moves I've ever seen. We don't get a shot off and lose. Also, Martin is too mellow to be a good coach. How many outstanding college coaches can you name who are mellow? There aren't any. The good ones are intense.
I think Tyndall can coach, like the guy--but he will have to bring in talent, and for some reason I think he will.
No problems with the last play. Had one of our two best players isolated in a one on one situation and he didn't make the play. Stokes was much better facing up than backing down last year. Players have to execute.
Well, for my part in it, it's not about the coach, it's about taking an opinion and trying to spread as a fact.
Your part also included telling the poster to "gtfo", saying the poster is "fos", the poster is an "Anus", and also inferring that the poster is a racist.
The "opinion" has been discussed at length on radio too. Sorry, no link for that.
Exactly. Stokes was the best player last year. Give it to the best and let him make the play. He didn't make the play. Arguing against that is like saying Lofton shouldn't have taken the final shot if he missed it.
Not exactly. If Lofton was given the ball at 30 feet with 2 seconds left and missed it, then it would not be a good play. But we can come up with hypotheticals all day.
Stokes may have been good face up, but he was out further than I would have liked. The double team was coming if you saw the replay. I think the play was actually back to McRae anyway. I was indifferent on the call, but it's not like it was a genius play call either.
By whom?
I did not infer you were racist, I inferred you can't have it both ways. You can't take credit for motivating the team with out accepting the perception of the basketball world outside of Tennessee.
