Negative Sir. He couldn't get it done in 3+ years in the state of California where the talent is rich and plentiful. You have got to be joking

Not to mention the University is still feeling the repercussions of the kiffin era and his wrong doings.

Yeah, yeah guys, I know he is the biggest slimeball snake to ever set foot on Shields-Watkins Field. He put the knife in all of our backs, and I hate him for that and how he did it..no question! I wish him the worst!

BUT, that slimeball snake brought valuable characteristics to this program such as confidence, swagger and arrogance! Do you guys realize that Tennessee was the most talked about 5-7 team EVER?! In one year, that man had TN football back on the map! Yeah, we went a mediocre 7-6, but look at the results from some of those games. We had to play #12 Virginia Tech in the Peach Bowl which wasn't fair, so he really could have/should have went 8-5. Hell, if Cody doesn't block the FG he could have easily went 9-4! Kiffin is what WE NEEDED at the time...I thought it was the PERFECT hire! Just turned out to blow up in our faces...but who saw that coming?!

So, with all this being said, what are some of your thoughts on Kiffin? Did you like him and feel was the perfect guy for the job when he got hired? Did you like his swagger and Cali arrogance? Do you think if he had stayed we'd be relevant again winning 9 or 10 wins...making New Years Day and BSC bowl games?

I'll admit, It killed me when I found out he was leaving...total dagger. I enjoyed his only year in Knoxville. Yeah, he made some horrible decisions off the field, but that man was just what the Doctor ordered AT THAT TIME!

We already are on probation over Kiffin's 14 months. It would be double secret probation by now...but this is a classic troll thread....a bye week really seems to bring them out especially when it follows a loss.

OP is right. I know all the fans who act like scorned bitter ex girlfriends will not agree. We would have got the same slap on the wrist from the NCAA if we had Kiffin. People want to talk about his players leaving. Most left because Dooley was a loser. We would have had Bray at qb , Aaron Douglass at Lt, Bryce Brown at rb with JH an Darick at wr. He would have pulled in top ten classes and gotten our D right. He did more in one year than DD in three.

And if you want proof of this, just look at what happened at usc.

If CBJ were able to play the schedule we had in 09; that UCLA team instead of Oregon, that Auburn team instead of the one we faced, and the UGA team that we beat that year, then we'd be 7-3 right now with a good shot at 9-3.

I would agree with you- 9 wins. In the one season he had here, it was better than the last 4. He also did it with "less talent"- wasn't that the reason Fulmer was fired, being lazy and not putting in the hours to stay on top, poor recruiting. I am sure someone can stack up Fulmer's recruiting classes with Dooley's 3. I would venture to say Dooley's were ranked higher. SEC coaches "hated" him- a trait I liked at the time. Who wants a coach that the other SEC coaches talk pretty to? I want the coach that kicks their butts on the field and wants no friends. Interesting topic- this is a sports forum so I think if it's UT related it is fair game.

ARE YOU CRAZY? LESS TALENT? how does 2 first round draft picks on defense, 2 offensive being drafted, a QB and RB being drafted, plus a WR and TE drafted the year after he left that contributed significantly to the 2009 have less talent?

Why are you making up crap that isn't true? come on that team had more talent than this years team by a mile.

Ok it is fair game but at least be truthful and quit lying to everyone.

Kiffin almost led us to a victory against Alabama. Had we won that game, Saban would not have played Texas for the National Championship that year.

Had Dooley led us to wins against LSU & UNC in 2010, he would have bought himself more time. Had Dooley led us to a win against Kentucky in 2011, he would have possibly kept his staff together.

Had Dooley led us to a win against USC, UGA, Vandy, and Missouri, then he would lead us to a bowl game with a 9 win season and he keeps his job.

Had Majors not gotten ill, Fulmer would be the coach at Clemson now.....

No, he cant even coach USC in their weak conference and we would have probably been hit with the death penalty as crooked as he was here in one year!

His daddys Tampa 2 defense sucks too!

I kinda agree with the OP. I don't know just how well he would have ended up doing here but he would have had all thr right coaches and recruits. Now, we could have been just like USC this year to.

Hammy's hiring of Kiffin was the worst head FB coach hire in the SEC in 50+ years.

LK was slimy in ever way imaginable. When you watch a Vol game with horrendous defense, remember Kiffin was handed a top 5 defense with a great defensive coaching staff, which he immediately fired to place his "has been" overpaid daddy in charge. That key decision has led to our plummeting to the bottom on defense. LK made horrible coaching decisions in last min of both UCLA and Bama games, which directly led to defeats. We had to stoop to getting a "not ready for prime time" Dooley only because Kiffin left Tennessee in the lurch a couple weeks before signing day. And those were great moves he made running off Boyd and Petty. NCAA probation and nearly no one of the team he actually signed has done anything this year.

Pathetic pathetic hire - it set back our program at least five years. Worked out great at USC didn't he?

I blame 80-90% of our current problems (being in lower third of SEC) on the Kiffin hire.

Liked him as a coach at UT, but it wouldn't have been worth all the recruiting violations

I think people who fondly remember '09 really just miss having Eric Berry and a decent defense. We weren't that low on talent back then except at QB and who wouldn't take Crompton right now? EB deserved that Thorpe Award as much as any player ever has.

that wasnt really kiffins doings, it was a combination of things. and for what its worth i believe fulmer would have done at least that well with that team too. I dont know if fulmer would have played bama and florida as close but he would have done just as well in all other games if not better.

food for thought: kiffin then went to a worse conference with far more talent on his team and didnt do sheeeit. so ya.
